Work Text:
Sebek sighs as he walks through the halls. As it was the weekend and Malleus and Lilia had insisted that he and Silver relax, he wasn’t sure what to do with himself. He had already finished his classwork and general training, so there was nothing in particular he had to do. Sure, he could do more training, but to really improve more, he shouldn’t train alone. He could ask Silver, but…
Hm. Where was Silver?
Now that he thinks about it, he’s pretty sure hasn’t seen Silver all day—not even at the cafeteria for lunch. Frowning, Sebek racks his brain for where Silver could be. He hadn’t been worried before since he didn’t know what Silver intended to do with his day off, but he does hope that he’s at least eaten something. Knowing him, he may have dozed off in the middle of a task and slept past lunch time.
His lips curl into a small smile. As inconvenient and sometimes maddening Silver’s sudden sleeping spells could be, he couldn’t deny that it could also be quite cute. He’ll never admit it out loud, but even as children, he was, and still is very fond of Silver.
But that doesn’t matter. Silver is human…and therefore will leave him one day.
He can’t get too attached. It would do him no good to do so.
These feelings will just burden him in the end.
Gritting his teeth, he drives away the useless thoughts. There was no point in thinking of such things right now. They were both young and everything is fine, so the end is nowhere in sight, at least for now. He can still be with Silver for at least a little longer.
Right, what was he doing again? Looking for Silver, yes. Considering he doesn’t know what Silver had planned for his day, the best thing he can do is just look around to see the most likely places he’d be.
Maybe if there was enough time, they could train together today.
He wasn’t in his room, nor in the rest of the dorm, the stables were a bust, and even when he passed by Malleus and Lilia, they had remarked that they hadn’t seen him at all that day either.
So that made it likely that Silver was in some random corner of the school napping or of the like.
Wandering around, he checks for where it was particularly sunny and warm—places that could especially lull Silver to sleep.
As he checks one courtyard, nothing seems amiss, however when he crosses to move on to the next area, he passes an alcove he wasn’t aware existed before. How careless of him. He thought he had been fully aware of every area of the school grounds in the case of an emergency.
Looking in, he finds Silver, fast asleep in a sunny patch of forget-me-nots. On his lap is one of his textbooks, and beside him are some of his other school supplies. Clearly he had been studying and then succumbed to the soothing environment. Perhaps he had thought that a change of environment could have kept him awake, but clearly was wrong.
Well, Sebek really should have expected to find Silver somewhere like this. Finding him asleep in random parts of the school is not an uncommon sight for Sebek, considering that it was just the same as it was when they were kids. He remembers fondly of going to his home and searching for Silver in the forest to find him sleeping under some tree somewhere.
He could, of course, wake him up immediately as he usually does.
But the sight of him napping in a sunny patch of forget-me-nots is so inviting…surely he can hold off for a little while.
Sebek scans the area, finding no one else in sight. Right. Hypothetically if he were to join Silver, he’ll surely wake up before him, and with this place being hidden away, it was unlikely that someone else would find them.
He’s been tempted before, but there weren’t good opportunities to. But today, since he didn’t have to be with Malleus or Lilia, and he didn’t have any plans…surely he can indulge just for once. His time with Silver is limited, but if they stay together like this, then perhaps he can pretend they have all the time in the world. Even just for a little bit.
Sitting down next to Silver, he closes his eyes. It really was quite comfortable here, so it was easy to see how Silver had fallen asleep.
Just a little nap. Just for a little bit. Just for a little more time with Silver.
Just for now, he can hold off tomorrow.
