Work Text:

"What do you mean a bunch of stoners summoned a ghost," Sam questions Dean, a look of disbelief on his face.

"It won't sound any better the second time," Dean replies, laughing. "I just got off the phone with Cas; he's on his way back to pick us up so we can head to Kansas City and take care of it. He should be here in about 15 minutes, so we have to hurry and get ready."

"Okay, I can't wait to hear the details on this. How about you grab our bags, and I'll get weapons and supplies."

"Perfect!"

Soon Cas pulls the Impala into the garage where the brothers are waiting. Dean heads straight for him as Cas exits the vehicle, placing his hands upon Cas' waist, needing to touch and verify he's real. It's only been a few days since Jack recused Cas from the Empty, only a few days since telling Cas, "I love you, too."

"Hello, Dean," says Cas, grinning as he wraps his arms around Dean. The ex-angel cannot believe he gets to have this with Dean.

"Hi, Sunshine," Dean replies, a goofy smile on his face. "Ready to go?"

"I would rather stay here and spend some more alone time with you," Cas replies, whispering low enough that Sam won't hear. "But since we don't have that luxury, I guess so."

"Me too, Angel, me too," replies Dean, winking. "Something to look forward to when we return."

Meanwhile, Sam has loaded all their bags and gear and is in the back seat of the Impala waiting. Taking his hand, Dean leads Cas over, and they climb in.

Once on the road, Cas explains what he's learned. "I received a call from Jules, who was working on a case in Kansas City where a ghost had trapped a couple of young men. She was able to rescue them but was injured in the process. So the guys took her to the hospital to get checked out, and it's only a broken wrist and a couple of cracked ribs."

"I'm happy to hear she wasn't injured more severely," Sam states.

"Me too," agrees Dean.

"Yes, she was lucky," Cas says. "She put me in touch with one of the boys, Billy. I learned that the house belonged to his 'crazy old aunt.' A few months ago, he'd inherited it because he was her last living relative. He'd asked a few friends over to help him clean it out. After a hard day of working, they decided to smoke some weed to relax. After getting thoroughly baked, they went into her library and dug through a bunch of her old books. One talked about summoning a ghost using a talisman, a few ingredients, and an incantation. A box containing everything they needed was with the book, and in their inebriated state, they thought it would be funny to try it out. Unfortunately, they no longer found it funny when an actual apparition erupted and trapped them in punishment."

"I'll bet that sobered them up real quick," Dean interjects, laughing at his joke.

"Indeed," replies Cas. "Luckily for the boys, all the commotion caught a neighbor's eye. They were a friend of Jules, so they gave her a call. She arrived and, as I said, got the boys out of the house, but the specter threw her into a wall before she could get near the talisman and destroy it. Fortunately, before leaving, she cast a spell on the house to seal in the phantom for the next 24 hours."

"Quick thinking," compliments Sam, "that should give us enough time to arrive and take care of the revenant."

"By the way," Cas says, "Jules warned me that she felt very high after coming in contact with the spirit. The high didn't last long, but she wasn't in touch with the ghost long either, so we will need to be careful while battling it."

They arrive at the house and gear up to go inside. Knowing that the library was at the rear of the house, they had decided Sam would head in that direction and destroy the talisman while Dean and Cas distracted the ghost.

As soon as they enter, the revenant advances on them. Sam ducks to the right and through to the next room as Cas and Dean use their crowbars to attack the apparition. Unfortunately, they're unwilling to use the shotguns in the confined entryway and risk friendly fire.

The ghost fades momentarily after coming in contact with the iron, and they use the opportunity to spread out. The phantasm reappears in front of them, flinging a piece of furniture at Dean while it rushes Castiel. The specter wraps his hands around Cas' waist and picks him up, shaking and squeezing him. Despite the dire situation, Cas' prolonged contact with the ghost makes him feel muddled, and he cannot react.

Having extricated himself from the thrown recliner, Dean rushes to Castiel's aid. He sneaks up behind them, grabs the revenant by the neck, and pulls hard. The spirit turns to deal with this new threat, and Cas crumples as the ghost casts him aside. He lays there, trying to get his bearings, as Dean contends with the apparition. Then, seeing one of their dropped shotguns, Dean lets go of the ghost to grab it. The hunter gets it raised in time to shoot the specter, which shrieks as it disappears.

Taking the momentary reprieve, Dean goes to check on Cas. "Hey there, my dude, how are you feeling," he asks, crouching down to look Cas in the eye.

"Ummm," the ex-angel replies, "I think I'm okay however I feel a lot like that time I drank a liquor store. Dean, I think I'm high." Cas looks up at Dean and starts to giggle. "I'm so high," he yells.

"Shhh. Be vewy vewy quiet, we're hunting spooks. Oh man," Dean continues, "I think I'm high too."

"Maybe we can be high together," Cas suggests coyly, batting his eyelashes.

Deciding now would be an excellent time to kiss Cas, Dean leans forward. Unfortunately, he overbalances and falls forward, so instead of kissing Cas, he knocks him over. They lay there, Cas sprawled on his back and Dean on top, smashing him into the floor. The spirit returns, advancing on them menacingly. It freezes before it can attack; however,  beginning to wail before going up in a ball of flame and smoke.

A few moments later, Sam comes running into the room. "Did it work," he asks, looking around frantically.

"Yeah, man, it went poof," Dean replies, grinning.

"You could say he went up in a puff of smoke," Cas says, cackling.

Dean snorts, "Man, you're sooooooooo funny."

Sam looks at them, shaking his head in exasperation. "I take it you both came in contact with the poltergeist?"

"Got it in one, Sammy," says Dean giggling.

Sam walks over and helps them up from the ground, laughing at his ridiculous brother. As Dean gets to his feet, wobbling slightly, he reaches out and touches his fingertip to Sam's nose. "Boop, brother."

"It is going to be a long car ride back with you, isn't it," Sam sighs.

"It's okay, Sam," says Cas, shifting to wrap his arms around Dean from behind, "I am sure I can find something for us to do in the back seat to keep Dean distracted on the drive."

"On second thought," Sam says, with dawning dread, "we are going to get a hotel room so the two of you can sleep this off."
