Chapter Text
It was a quiet Saturday morning, Matsu was throughly tuckered out. He had such a hard Friday in his preschool, he knocked over a cup of colored pencils, meaning his day was now completely and utterly ruined. Shuichi was also exhausted, being a detective was no easy feat, especially not on top of being a father. So, it was just Kokichi and Aiko that day.
Aiko had just hit 7 months, and boy was she a crawler. Everything was so new to her, it was so exhilarating! She would roll to the side, then quickly crawl away as far away from her parents as she could. They would never catch her, she was too fast! At least that’s what she thought. It was always easy to scoop her up.
The little girl would love touching the kitchen tiles, it was so cold, it sent a rush up her tiny spine. Matsu watched for nearly an hour as the baby pressed her hand against the floor, then yelled and giggled, pulling it away for warmth. She would’ve kept going, but she fell asleep on the carpet.
Back to this sleepy morning, Aiko was completely up. She rolled around in her bed, giggling and screaming for her parent’s attention. Sighing, Kokichi got up and picked her up from her bed. “Good morning sweetheart..you’re sure up early.” He smiled and spun her around. The baby kept screaming and laughing.
He laid her down on her changing table, taking the time to brush out her soft, lush, full locks of purple hair, admiring how he styled it upwards just like his own. Then he gently changed her from a pink strawberry sleeper gown, to a pink bear footed onesie. He took her out the room and sat her down on the floor in front of him. Of course, she crawled away.
Ouma tried to keep watch of her from the couch, but it was to no avail. She had gone behind their island counter. Kokichi got up went to follow her, “Aiko baby-“ he stopped when he saw her on the other side of the counter, holding onto a towel rack, trying to push herself up to stand. Kokichi gasped and covered his mouth.
His little girl whined and smiled, standing up for the first time. Her tiny legs wobbled and she tried to take her first steps. One little foot forward, being extra careful.
It didn’t work out in her favor, she immediately face planted on the (luckily, soft carpet) floor, screaming like no tomorrow.
“S-Shh shh baby!” Ouma scooped her up and rubbed her forehead and nose. “It’s ok! You’re alright you’re alright! Oh my little girl!” He kept whispering praises to her, “You did amazing! You’re ready to walk! I’m so proud of you!” He bounced her around until she started giggling like herself again. “We gotta go tell Shu!” He smiled and ran into the room. “Shuichi!”
The detective slightly opened his eyes, “Yes?” “Aiko stood up!” They both smiled while Saihara sat up, “My sweet Aiko..” still tired, he pulled the baby toward him and cuddled her. “So wonderful…I’m so proud of you.” They all went on with their day, encouraging their sweet baby to stand.
