Chapter Text
It had been nearly a year since Maya had admitted that she needed help. It was the first time she had ever uttered those words. Her father had never let her believe that any good could come of needing assistance in anything. It was why he had made her go into track.
To be alone.
But thankfully, with time and with therapy, she learned she wasn't alone. Carina was more than just one person. She was her village.
Maya had a long recovery after her incident. She had been hospitalized not only for her physical injuries but also for her mental health as well. It was a conversation she had with her wife soon after she said she needed help. The blonde wanted to prove that she was enough for Carina. The internal battle she kept having with her father was still wearing her down and she could no longer hide it from the person who was her everything.
So she told her the truth: She hadn't been alone in her thoughts for some time and they constantly pushed her to self-destruct.
Carina had been kind and patient. She listened with bated breath, no matter how upset she got, and when her wife was done they came up with a plan together: to get Maya professional help. Carina ultimately let Maya make the final decision, to give her that power, and Maya was grateful for all of the insight the Italian provided.
It had been a long journey but one that they saw through together and at the end they came out stronger. Their relationship now had a solid foundation that were utilizing to grow their family.
Carina had just taken their first pregnancy test since this whole ordeal began. The first one since Maya's mental health crisis. Now, they sat waiting for the results together. Hand in hand as it should have been all along.
"Maya," Carina looked lovingly at her wife who seemed full of nervous energy. "No matter what happens we will be okay, right?"
The firefighter glanced at the doctor with a smile on her face.
"Always," just as the timer rang and both women's faces glanced at the test laying before them.
