Elen was sitting next to Guinivere as they ate the food prepared by people from the army.
”tasty as always” she smiled.
”it sure is” Guinivere looked at her.
as Elen continued, she saw off in the distance Chad.
he was walking into the woods.
she thought that he was going to use the bathroom but he didn’t come back for awhile.
”I’ll be right back”
”stay safe”
she walked into the same direction Chad went.
in no time, she saw Chad sitting by a tree writing something.
”Chad? Is everything ok?”
”oh, sister Elen, I’m fine”
”what’re you doing?” She sat next to him.
”it’s… a little embarrassing but… Lugh told me at the end of the day, I should write down my feelings and crap… to help with… stuff” Chad looked away.
”that’s a nice idea, it is difficult times right now”
”yeah… *ahem*” obviously he was still awkward around Elen, the whole ‘her being from bern’ thing still crossed his mind.
“Which reminds me… how are you holding up?”
”um… I’m good”
”I can tell you’re lying Chad”
”I… I’m trying ok? It’s not like I can just magically make everything better! Everything sucks right now! You may be fine because it’s your country that took everything away from others! They didn’t take anything from you! Hell, you work next to Guinivere… Guinivere! You don’t have to worry about anything happening to you at all!”
”im sorry”
Chad realized he accidentally blew up on her, she didn’t deserve that.
”I-I’m sorry, it’s just… things are tough… I didn’t want to participate in this war, I just wanted my family all together… that won’t happen now”
”let’s not think like that”
”I just miss father, I didn’t have to worry as much when we were together, now all my younger siblings are relying on me”
”don’t put that much pressure on yourself, you forget Lugh and Raigh can help too”
”im just so used to being the responsible one…”
”remember what said last time? It’s ok to cry, it’s good for you y’know? I think if you did you’d feel a lot better”
”I ain’t crying, never did never will”
”there’s no one around”
”so? Crying in front of a girl is just as embarrassing”
”I won’t think any less of you”
”give it up, I’m just used to this crap, life has never been good to me”
”then how about relaxing then, I hardly see you do it, you’re always doing something, here… lay down”
Chad blushed a bit as he saw Elen patting her lap.
”im not laying in your lap”
”just lay your head here, I don’t bite” she chuckled.
Chad sighed.
”fine, not because I want to”
he laid back and closed his eyes.
he must admit, it felt kinda nice.
shes warm and soft, this feeling was familiar to him… like father did when he was smaller.
”see? It’s nice right?”
”yeah yeah…” Chad tried to act like he didn’t like it.
Elen hesitated a bit before caressing his hair in an attempt to make feel more relaxed.
but that did the complete opposite.
Chad jolted and sat up.
he moved away.
”d-don’t do that! Only father can do that!” He pointed at her.
”im so-“
”only he can touch me like that! No one else, he’s special to me! But now he’s gone and I promised I wouldn’t let anyone get close to me like he did! No one can do that now… because he’s gone!.. he’s gone… he’s… gone?”
he dropped his hand at the sudden realization that, Lucius will never come back.
“He’s gone…” Elen noticed tears welling up in his eyes. She shouldn’t be happy but he needed this.
”it’s ok” she said as she softly grabbed his head.
he tried wiping away his tears but, they soon came flowing out, he couldn’t stop it.
”I’ll n-never see him again… *sniff*… wh-why do the things love keep leaving me… what did I do?” He covered his face.
”you did nothing wrong” she hugged him and let him sob.
it hurt her heart to hear this strong, responsible, and kind heart boy crying his eyes.
He’s been through enough, just let this boy rest.
“How about you take a break? I’ll let lord Roy know and-“
”n-no, I’m going to fight… I have to, I’m no coward!… *sniff*… it’s for father, for the other orphans” Chad left her arms and wiped his face.
”I’m doing whatever I can to help”
Elen had a surprised look but then laughed.
”what’s so funny!?”
”you’re so stubborn, just never know how to rest do you?”
”father told me to fight for what right! And I’m going to!”
”ok then, I’ll expect to see your all on the battlefield”
”you will… and… forget about me crying, don’t tell anyone either”
”don’t worry, I won’t”
”I haven’t eaten yet… so I’m going back”
”ok then” Chad ran off.
”you forgot your… sketchbook”
she opened it and flipped through the pages before landing on a page with a drawing of her.
it was very detailed and looked just like her.
she smiled and closed the book.
She headed back to return his book and finish where she left off with Guinivere
