Everything hurt.
That was Izuku’s first thought as he slowly came back to consciousness. That every bone, every fiber of his being was on fire .
If he could've built up the strength or energy to do so he would be screaming in agony right now. Everything hurt .
He groaned, letting his head fall to the side as he cracked open his eyes. Wincing slightly at the jolt of pain that went through his body as he did so.
Izuku felt like his brain was being stabbed with needles when he opened his eyes fully, everything going blurry for a few seconds. But as everything started to come back to him, albeit slower than he would've liked, the more he realized that he needed to figure out where he was. Because right off the back he could tell that this wasn't a hospital.
The bed was too soft, the sheets too fluffy and warm to be something even close to a hospital bed. And the more and more his memory came back to Izuku of what had happened before this- he definitely should be in a hospital right now.
That's not really what matters in the moment- right now Izuku needed to clench his teeth to push past the agonizing pounding behind his eyes and forced himself to take in his surroundings. To try and remember what had happened before everything had gone black.
The last thing Izuku remembers was being on patrol with Todoroki before a huge fight broke out with a villain on the street… they had somehow ended up on a rooftop, Izuku had lost his footing, and then… nothing.
He couldn't remember anything after that. Nothing came up other than just pure blankness.
Izuku shook his head lightly. Dutifully ignoring the sharp jolt of pain that shoots through his body as he does so. Izuku needs to focus, he needs to take in his surroundings and figure out what's going on. What his next move would be.
The room that he was something simple yet elegant. Definitely not something Izuku would find himself in because he knew for a fact that all his friends while having nice apartments are as terrible at interior decorating as Izuku was.
That simply left the question of where the hell was he?
Izuku attempted to swing his feet off the bed, knowing full well that when he attempted to stand up that he would likely get dizzy and fall on his ass but didn't get far. His right foot being stopped by a chain.
That gave Izuku a pause.
Before he really got the chance to process that, and well, break the chain , the door swung open. Revealing what Izuku was now realizing was his captor.
Only to reveal the one and only Todoroki Shoto entering the room with what seemed to be a bowl of… soup?
Izuku was really confused now.
Todoroki looked up, spotting Izuku in his odd position of being halfway out of the bed but trapped by the chained cuff around his ankle…
But he didn't comment on it, simply bringing the soup over to Izuku, and putting it on the nightstand next to him.
Izuku grabbed his friend's wrist, ignoring how his joints pop ever so slightly at the sudden movement. “Todoroki-” he says, tightening his grip on his friend's wrist. Weak as it may be. “What's going on? What happened? Where are we?”
Todoroki simply smiles softly at Izuku at that. Surprising him slightly. Izuku had never seen Todoroki look so… soft before.
“We’re at my apartment Izuku,” He said softly, breaking Izuku’s hold on his wrist only to lace their fingers together and cup Izuku’s cheek with his other hand.
“But-” Izuku tried again but doesn't get far when Todoroki covers his mouth with a finger—indicating Izuku to be quiet while he continued to talk.
“You died Izuku.” now that shuts Izuku up. But… if he had died, how was he still here?
Todoroki seemed to read Izuku’s question, answering it as he continued on. “You died, you know that villain attack we got caught up in?” Izuku nods, “Well, one of the main villains pushed you off the roof. You didn't make it. But,” Todoroki’s voice shook ever so slightly as he sat behind Izuku. Pulling him into his chest. “I managed to find a way to get you back. But we won't get into the details now. Can we just sit and enjoy the fact that you’re still here and spend time together Izuku?”
Izuku bites his lip, looking away but nods, too caught up in his thoughts. If he had… died, then wouldn't everyone else be grieving? Upset at least, shouldn't they be out spreading the word that the hero Deku wasn't really dead? That he was ok?
He’s pulled out of his thoughts by Todoroki running a hand through his hair, catching his attention.
“You know Izuku…” Todoroki murmurs into his neck, pulling Izuku impossibly closer. “We never really got to talk about…
us
before everything happened. And now that I know what it’s like to lose you, to think you’re gone I think I’d like to.”
Izuku blinks. He hadn't ever considered Todoroki more than one of his friends, possibly his best friend but from the current position Todoroki was holding him, his low tone… it seemed like they weren't on the same page.
“W-what do you mean by that To-Todoroki?” Izuku questions quietly, trying to shift away from his friend, to gain some space away from the uncomfortable position only for Todoroki’s grip on his waist to tighten.
“I mean, ” Todoroki says, his lips grazing Izuku’s ear, “Is that you’re unlike anyone I’ve ever met before? That I would like you to be mine . And no one else.”
Izuku swallowed thickly, his head still hurt. Not scratch that, everything still hurt like a bitch. Which meant that Izuku had let his guard down. Let himself get cornered into a precarious situation.
No matter how much Izuku really just wanted to pass out and never wake up. ( Ha. Never wake up, just got resurrected from the dead, get it?) he needed to be careful about how he handled this situation.
He pulled his hand away from Todoroki’s, who only chased it down again and trapped it once again. This time too tight for Izuku to fight against in his current weakened state.
“Todoroki…” Izuku started quietly, “I- I’m sorry but I don't think I feel the same way. Eitherway-” he said quickly when he felt Todoroki stiffen behind him. “I don't think now would be the best time for either of us to get into a relationship-” Izuku said quickly, rushing his words. “We’re just starting out hero careers! don't you think we should get a little more comfortable in our positions as full-fledged heroes before starting a relationship?”
Todoroki doesn't say anything for a few moments. Something about his silence
scares
Izuku. And when Todoroki speaks again, Izuku can already feel dread forming in his stomach.
“It's been two years Izuku.” He said, nearly causing Izuku’s heart to stop. “It's been two years so we don't need to worry about that. You won't be going back on the field anyway.”
Izuku jolted away from Todoroki at that, trying to face him. But Todoroki doesn't let him. Simply pulling Izuku back to him, wrapping an arm around Izuku’s waist.
“What do you mean its been two years?!” Izuku exclaimed, staring incredulously at Todoroki. Unsure whether or not to believe him.
But from Todoroki’s serious tone… no matter how much Izuku wanted to believe his friend to be joking, he couldn't. Todoroki would never joke about him being dead for two years, no matter how insensitive Todoroki could be with his jokes.
“I mean it took me two years to figure out how to bring you back Izuku,” Todoroki said blankly, but from the way, his tone lifts ever so slightly. It seemed almost like he was happy .
Izuku only felt sick.
“And now that no one else knows you’re back…” Todoroki whispers, causing goosebumps to rise over Izuku’s skin uncomfortably. “And you know what that means?”
Izuku swallowed thickly, still trying to pull Todoroki’s hands away from him. “That things can go back to normal?” He squeaked out.
He feels Todoroki shake his head against Izuku’s nape, “No, it means that you’re all
mine
. Since everyone else thinks you’re dead, they’ll never have to know that you’re back so you can belong to me and only me.”
Izuku feels sick. And before he can reply, he gets lightheaded once again. Everything going black.
