Lily in the Sky with Diamonds

Chapter 47: The End

Summary:

A series of interviews with the UK’s hottest band, The Marauders, and the singer-songwriter Lily Evans, conducted by Nymphadora Tonks, as they prepare for the UK Tour after the release of their album “Lily in the Sky with Diamonds”.

Everyone worships The Marauders.

Everyone loves Lily Evans.

Together they make hearts bleed.

Inspired by "Daisy Jones & The Six" by Taylor Jenkins Reid.

Notes:

And here it is. The final chapter of "Lily in the Sky with Diamonds". Thank you for enjoying and/or experiencing this journey with me. I appreciate all of your comments and all the kudos that you have left. It's been an interesting journey that I hadn't anticipated would take me so many chapters to complete.

I hope you'll enjoy the resolution and to see some of you for some of my other works - whether written or yet to be created.

Chapter Text

Picture yourself in a boat on a river,
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies.
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly,
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes.

Cellophane flowers of yellow and green,
Towering over your head.
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes,
And she's gone.

James Potter
Hello everyone! Lily and I just thought we’d stop by to thank you for all of your support. It’s been a crazy few days -

Lily Evans
<Links her fingers with James’, wedding ring glittering at the camera.> It definitely has and we can imagine that you have a lot of different questions for us.

James Potter
First things first… <sheepish and a little shame-faced> yes, I did punch my brother-in-law and, no, I’m not in the least bit proud of it. <Grimaces.> If I could change it and control my temper, I would -

Lily Evans
<Looks at him.> Luckily, Vernon has left the hospital and the damage done is not permanent.

James Potter
<Runs a hand through his hair.> You can say that again. <Sighs.> Anyway, I just wanted to apologise for behaving the way I did. <Brief pause.> Even if my response felt completely warranted at the time and I do not regret sticking up for Lily here -

Lily Evans
<Swivels her head to the camera, cuts him off.> Let’s just say he might have been a little stupid and leave it at that.

James Potter
<Ghost of a smile playing at his lips as he looks down at Lily.> All right, yeah. Message received. <Locks eyes with the camera.> We decided not to talk about what happened.

Lily Evans
It's a family affair.

James Potter
<Lifts their intertwined hands and presses a kiss on the back of her hand.> You’re right, Lil.

Lily Evans
<Eyes him fondly before shaking herself and turning back to the camera.> Of course, these were not the only rumours flying around in recent days and we understand if the other one might have startled you. <Momentary silence in which Lily squeezes James’ hand.> A lot has been written about this so far and people have been very quick to point fingers, but James and I would like to ask you not to vilify anyone.

James Potter
While we appreciate your support, the last thing we’d want is for anyone to suffer what we have gone through for the duration of our careers.

Lily Evans
We know better than most people that perceptions can be deceiving and that what’s being written is not always the honest truth. <Turns her head to look at James now.> Not to mention that we are keen to move on and start the rest of our lives together.

James Potter
<Grins blindingly.> Until the very end.

Lily Evans
Until the very end.

“Posted,” James told her, turning to her as she sat at the piano, fingers brushing the keys lightly. He moved to sit beside her, placed a soft kiss against her shoulder and then breathed out against her skin: “I’d be glad if I don’t have to deal with any of this shit again for the rest of my life.”

She hummed, her hands leaving the keys as she turned sideways, her fingers getting lost in his locks. “For now, let’s enjoy the peace and quiet,” she agreed with him. “In a few days’ time we’ll perform in Liverpool and then it’s bound to start all over again.”

He lifted his head, looked her in the eye, his gaze warm on hers. “It’s what we signed up for, huh?” He breathed in through his nose, dipping his head and pressed his lips against hers.

She exhaled happily, her arms wrapping around his shoulders and pulling him ever closer, her chest pushing up against his, his fingers dipping down her sides.

“Do you want to –?” she asked as they broke apart, her eyes questioning him.

He raised his eyebrow. “Do I ever not?”

She giggled as he stood and lifted her in his arms.

“Maybe when I’m old and wrinkly?” she suggested.

“Nah,” he told her, nuzzling her with his nose, “as far as I’m concerned there is only diamonds in our skies.”
