Chapter Text
Based on a scene from a film adaptation of Wuthering Heights. Of course, I have not said much about Taiyou and Kyousuke's relationship here, but I'm sure it seems very positive and sweet, ne~? For me, I honestly can't decide which couple I like more XD Taiyou and Tsurugi or Kariya and Tsurugi... I feel like they match well and beautifully in their own ways. I'm scared of spoiling things, but Tsurugi's noble actions are painted as sins by the whole entire world, yet there is one person out there who is willing to defend him and respect him, admire him and wait for him until the end. Without fearing what others will say of him for his stance or what punishments may be in store, Taiyou will not lose hope. Back to the picture - it is based somewhere in the Droell Forest where Tsurugi resides. Taiyou likes to walk by the river, and loves splashing his face with the fresh and cold water until the shivers disrupt his tender laughter. I have a full caption describing how and why I drew this on my instagram @galaxysdream if you want to read more about the picture. The romance in this book has been one of the most heavenly things to write, but it must be part of the reason for why I hesitate with the conclusion so much. My Taiyou has to give something up, and unlike Tsurugi, he gets no true "retribution" for his act. This scene happens before the plot of Contract by the way, so it can be seen as a prelude drawing. Taiyou was more cheeky then.
(Copied from Instagram: Here is a quick synopsis of the scene, from Tsurugi's view (I wrote Contract from Kariya's POV, so it is fun to share what Tsurugi experienced): Tsurugi had known in no less than one hour, he would take flight to Abestry, a far-off area where he had to duel the wizard who incessantly and time again challenged him and his pride, and no longer be able to see Kariya till he came back. Or as the human reminded him chidingly, if he came back. “That Mitsuyoshi really might be what he claims he's worth.” Kariya tied his cape to him from the front, and as his hands lingered on the ribbons, and Tsurugi felt his calm warmth, for once not angry, not fearful… two sets of rather unfamiliar footsteps had emerged from outside. Tsurugi got a vile sense from them, and without thinking, he took Kariya to himself, holding him.) In this scene, Kariya had something on his mind the whole time before they were interrupted. He really regretted not saying it, and being caught in the silence of the moment, though he simultaneously appreciated it like nothing he had in a long, long time. It's from chapter nineteen which is one of my top 5 favourite chapters of Contract. Tsurugi is such an interesting guy in Contract because he is aware that he is living up to someone else's design. He knows what's sinister and what's not, and the beginning of Contract displays a beautiful cracking of this complacency. He chooses a different life for himself, and for better or worse, Kariya met him right there at the crossroads --- following a design himself, not having any idea of what he can do to break out of it. I hope Tsurugi can help him... Again, the post is up on Instagram @galaxysdream , and I don't really explain the art process in the caption, but there is an alternative version to the same drawing.
