CHAPTER TEN: Kiss
You can clearly hear the coffee splash against your mug in the awkward silence that commenced the second the three of you entered the room. You almost felt silly due to your choice of venue. You figured an on-call room was too intimate, so the three of you are in one of the conference rooms that patient advocates use to explain medical bills. The three of you snuck in there after Natasha finished talking to Yelena.
You take a seat with the mug warming your hand and observe the women seated at the table.
The two of them were avoiding eye contact by any means necessary, but each of them took a moment to give you direct eye contact. Well, that’s decided.
“I guess I’ll start?” You begin awkwardly. The two women nod and you continue, “So, um, Nat and I, we uh, we kissed–which I already told you that so, um, yeah love was mentioned as well and yeah.”
Wanda gives you a pitiful look before taking you out of your misery, “Alright I think we’re all caught up on that part.” The neurosurgeon turns to Nat, “since you are the one that had the change of heart, perhaps you’d like to start this conversation.”
“Well I think you are the most perturbed walking into this meeting that you should be the one to start,” Natasha says challengingly.
“Or, we can be mature adults and just say how we feel,” you stress.
“Fine, I feel like Natasha is in control when it comes to the fate of our relationship–ships? At this rate she could change her mind again tomorrow.” Wanda voices.
“I feel that Wanda is still harboring some, less than pleasant, feelings from our decade of marriage even though she’s had her fair share of faults that I don’t hold against her.”
“Is that not what you’re doing right now?” Wanda accuses defensively.
“If that’s the way you see it babe,” Natatsha shrugs.
“Stop it,” you snap. “We’re not going to get anywhere if the two of you refuse to put your egos aside long enough to hash this out.”
The objects of your desire almost seem embarrassed by their own behavior and lower their heads..
“You’re right, detka,” Wanda says before turning to Natasha, “I’m sorry Nat.”
“I’m sorry too. I think you were right though, I should start this.” You and Wanda nod encouragingly and watch Natasha as she struggles to work out her thoughts.
“I um… I guess I have been calling the shots when it comes to all of us. Like, since the beginning when I left. Even now it took some time to realize how I feel about the two of you. But in my defense, it’s not an easy thing to digest… being in love with two people. We’re always taught that a relationship—a couple, is just that, a couple. I couldn’t fathom how the three of us could build a life or even have a family this way. And I was worried about what people might say about us. How that would affect us. So I guess I was too afraid to take that risk. I know I seem confident and so sure of everything in my life, and to a certain extent I am. But when it comes to the two of you I just…” she trails off.
You and Wanda listen intently to the woman’s fears. You both can totally see where she’s coming from. The two of you have had the same fear throughout the three of you’s relationship.
“This fear of us… it’s not unique to you Nat. I’m terrified by how drastically our lives will change if we do this. But I know that there can’t be anything remotely wrong about loving you two the way I do,” you say sincerely.
“That risk, we take it together. You have never been alone Nat,” Wanda says.
“And this, you two, is what is giving me the courage to try. Along with Pietro. Did he tell you that I met him?”
The two of you smile just at the mention of his name, “he did.”
“Did he mention what we talked about?”
“Nope, he just said it was an enlightening conversation for the both of you,” Wanda says.
“Well yeah, it was. He made me realize some things… I felt so broken after Brooke’s surgery and the situation that I made for myself. Depriving myself of happiness, hurting the two of you over and over again… I just knew I couldn’t do that for the rest of my life. He inspired me to try again. Even if I know I don’t deserve another chance after all I’ve put you through…”
You move around the table to grab Natasha’s trembling hand, “you’re forgiven, you know that. We’ve all made some… bad choices leading up to this, but we can try again.”
The redhead raises your hand to her lips and you shiver as her kiss sends tingles up your arm and throughout your body. You offer a warm smile, Wanda gets up to lean against the table so she’s closer to the two of you. “I know that moya lyubova, and you’re forgiven too. I just don’t want to fuck this up. I know that if I lose the two of you again, I wouldn’t survive it.”
The raw emotion of Natasha’s statement hit you like a ton of bricks. The intensity in the room noted her statement was near not hyperbolic.
“You can’t go into it thinking that way. But I do think we need to start fresh.” you say.
Wanda shakes her head in disagreement, “I think we’ve been through too much to just rewrite history.”
“No, no, I mean not pick up from where you and Natasha’s relationship left off. The three of us is a different beast.”
Wanda sighs, “If we do this. I mean really do this, then we need some ground rules.”
“Agreed. But what did you have in mind,” you ask.
“Well um I’ve done my research during my time in LA and the most important thing in a polyamorous relationship is honesty and communication.” Natasha says.
“I’ve seen that too,” when you get a look of amusement from the two women you quickly add, “I mean it’s come up on my ‘For You’ page so I watched a couple,” you shrugged.
“Well I sought it out. The idea of the three of us has crossed my mind for a while now. Probably since I found out the two of you were sleeping together.”
Your jaw drops in shock, “so on my first day when I hit on you…?”
“Let’s just say if you came onto me when we weren’t around my subordinates, our story might have started differently.”
“Oh my God,” you say, fighting off your arousal with every fiber of your being.
“Hey! We were still married,” Wanda says in feign hurt.
“That doesn’t mean we couldn’t both fuck her.”
“Holy fuuu...”
The two women giggle and it just so happens to be the sexiest sight you’ve ever beholden.
“Too easy,” Wanda says playfully.
Natasha smiles, “okay let’s focus, rules. Honesty is one, communication is another, what’s next?”
“Are we exclusive?” Wanda blurts out.
Natasha and you steal a glance. You hadn’t even considered the three of you would be anything but exclusive. “Uh, yeah? I mean, unless you had a different idea,” Nat says coyly.
“No, of course not. I only want and need the two of you,” she places one hand on your knee and the other grabs Natasha’s gently. “I love you so much,” she says looking between the two of you.
“We love you too dorogoya,” Natasha says, grabbing your hand.
You want nothing more than to crash your lips into your lovers,’ your mind can’t help but wonder what it’d be like to be sunken beneath both women. You’re tempted to make more inappropriate contact with the women, but there are still important matters to discuss.
You begin to lightly fan yourself as you feel your body heating with arousal. You shift your leg to escape Wanda’s touch so you can focus. “Okay so I know that most of our friends would be accepting of this,” you gesture between the three of you, “or at least I hope they will, but what about in general. PDA or no?”
“I have no interest in going back in the closet,” Natasha murmurs.
Wanda shakes her head, “I think it’s more complicated than that, Nat.”
“Okay so maybe no PDA at first…” you say hesitantly. If there was one thing Wanda loved it was showing her affection through physicality.
Wanda frowns, “that makes sense. But I can’t promise I won’t steal a kiss here and there,” the long haired woman punctuates her sentence with a peck to your lips. Just as you’re reveling in her taste, Natasha’s anxious voice breaks you out of bliss.
“Which reminds me,” Natasha says, rubbing the back of her neck, “everyone knows the two of you are together, so you guys could continue business as usual in public, right?”
“Theoretically yes, but I wouldn't want to leave you out. I guess that brings something else into question: can two of us.. do things when the other isn’t there? Not that I want to, I'm just curious,” your eyes shift nervously.
“Maybe not while we’re just starting off. we’ve all had moments where it was just two of us and I think that’ll happen every now and then with work trips and whatnot,” Natasha notes.
“Agreed, let’s revisit that one. But as for the other one, I will treat you equally in public, whatever that looks like.”
“I will too,” you say with a smile.
Natasha sighs quietly in relief, “Okay, good. That sounds good. I think most of this we’ll just have to take it as it comes and be honest with each other about any feelings that come up.”
You nod in agreement and watch the two beautiful women next to you. Your eyes begin to wander, along with your thoughts. You’re thinking about having Natasha’s plump lips on yours once again. You think of Wanda’s firm, yet delicate hands exploring every inch of your body. You must be stuck in a sort of horny-induced trance with the looks of concern in your direction.
“What is it?” Natasha asks while Wanda gives a puzzling look.
“What? Oh, well you and I got the chance to kiss since reconciling, but I don’t believe you and Wanda had the same pleasure.”
“I see what you’re trying to do, but no fair. I didn’t get to watch you two kiss,” Wanda whines.
“Oh come on. What do you say we put on a show, Maximoff?” Natasha says with a smirk as she snakes her hand around the woman’s neck.
Before Wanda can fully nod, Natasha pulls the woman into her and crashes their lips together. Wanda can’t help but smile into the kiss. She imagined for years what this sensation would feel like again. After all this time. It feels like coming home. Like the first breath after you’ve been submerged deeply into a body of water. Like feeling the sun beaming on your face after a day of rainfall. Like a deep slumber after a sleepless night.
As their romance is viciously displayed, a fire ignites within Natasha as she remembers that you are watching. Without warning the cardio surgeon grabs the back of Wanda’s thighs and hoists her up against her body. A moan escapes as Wanda’s arms and legs wrap around the redhead’s body. Their tongues clash vigorously as they become more and more wanton for each other.
You gasp in surprise at the sight. You never realized how strong Natasha was until now and it causes a tug of pleasure deep in your abdomen.
You want to be closer to the two of them. Maybe even prod your own mouth between just to get a taste of both women mixed together.
Natasha feels herself getting carried away, but she can’t stop, she won’t. The woman lies the lighter haired woman onto the table below them, their lips never disconnecting as their bodies writhe against each other’s. Wanda pulls their lips apart only to moan, but with a force like magnetism, their lips are back together in an instant.
You watch in awe as their bodies grind against one another. The desperate pants and whimpers have your underwear soaking instantly. Just before you’re going to pounce to insert yourself, Wanda is pushing the woman above her away.
She pants, “As much as I would love to continue…”
Natasha’s chest heaves as she collects herself, “I'm sorry, I—I don’t know what got into me.”
“I do,” you say with a chuckle.
“Acute arousal,” Wanda mutters before pecking Natasha’s swollen mouth once more with a heaving chest. “So, do you feel okay about where we’re leaving off?”
You rub the back of your neck, “well if it’s okay with everyone, I wanted to ask Nat,” you grab the woman’s hand, “would you like to come over for dinner tonight?” Your stomach flutters as your imagination drifts to the possibility of having Nat at your house.
Nat looks at Wanda, almost as if she’s asking for permission. “That’s a great idea, I’ll cook,” she says with a smile.
“I’d love to,” Natasha answers raspily.
You blow out the breath you didn't realize you were holding and fail to hide your grin, “perfect. Come over around 6:30?”
“I’ll be there.”
The three of you want to seal your conversation with a kiss, but you hesitate.
As no surprise to anyone, Wanda is the one who breaks the ice and plants a firm kiss on each of your lips, “see you tonight detka.”
“See you,” Natasha says as a pink tint spreads to her cheeks before she plants a kiss to your lips.
With a squeeze of joined hands you all leave the conference room with satisfied smiles, looking forward to the night ahead after work.
______
The rest of your work day consists of making post-op rounds. You always visit Brooke last since you stay there the longest. Carol is a friend of yours and a best friend to Wanda. Brooke is practically family and you wanted to be sure her and the baby were okay.
You enter the quiet room, the only noise is her heart monitor and the low hum of the a/c. A clipboard firm in your hands as you check the woman’s vitals. You sigh at the lack of change in the woman’s state. Brooke should have woken up by now, and at this point, many don’t think that she will. But some of you still have hope.
You’re just about to take a seat to keep the unconscious woman company, but another presence fills the room.
“Mind if I come in?” Carol asks timidly.
“Not at all,” you say without question, waving her in. You’re aware of her and Wanda’s awkward state of friendship, but you love Carol like family.
The blonde walks to the other side of Brooke’s bed and gently grabs the woman’s hand. “What’s going on with her?”
You shake your head, “it’s hard to tell. It could be the trauma to her heart and abdomen, it could be the blood she lost,” you shrug for good measure. “We just don’t know.”
“Any brain activity?”
“N-Not much, but I’ve seen worse cases bounce back,” Pietro comes to mind.
Carol lowers her head, “well thank you for all that you’ve done for her. She and babygirl were way worse off before you guys helped. H-How is the baby?” Carol looks down, undoubtedly guilty for not worrying about the infant’s condition sooner.
“She’s great, getting stronger every day despite the lesions. Wanda is down there with her right now,” you say with a smile.
“And the tumor remnants?”
“We want her to be stronger before we do a deep dive, but it’s looking good so far.”
“That’s really good. And I’m glad she’s not all alone down there.”
A few seconds go by before you open your mouth,“Are you still upset with Wanda?”
“I wasn’t upset with Wanda… well, I wasn’t until she said what she did.”
“I know it’s no excuse, but she was hurting. This stuff with Nat has been a lot.”
“So has my stuff with Brooke, and I stayed respectful.”
You nod, “you’re right, you’re right. I just hate seeing the two of you ignoring each other when you need each other so much right now. Hell, Brooke’s case is reminding me that life is short and good friendships are too dear to let go over some harsh words said when emotions were high.”
Carol nods in agreement, “You’re right too. Ugh, I just have so many mixed feelings right now and I don’t even know where to land.”
“What’s going through your head?”
“Before all of this happened, I wanted to tell Brooke how I felt… again. It just feels different this time to me, but I also didn’t want to say anything and it turned out I’m delusional. And I want her and the baby to be okay because she’s been through so much shit in life she deserves a win. And I wonder why it’s her in here… unconscious…” Carol’s tears begin to flow, “while I have a decent life and good health. We made the same mistakes! How is this fair?” Carol rambles in a broken sob.
You move to wrap your arms around the woman, “neither of you deserve that, no matter what you’ve done.”
“Can I ask you something?”
“Of course,” you say with no hesitation.
“Do you think it’s stupid that I’m still hung up on Brooke after all this time? Be honest.”
You think intently before answering, wanting to give the woman a thoughtful answer, but you already knew what you wanted to say. “Ordinarily, if a queer woman had been rejected by a ‘straight’ woman multiple times, yeah I’d think it’d be pretty stupid to keep at it. But I’ve seen the way Brooke looks at you and I can see how terrified she is whenever you show her any ounce of affection. I think she loves you, but she needs you to be patient with her. Especially considering her past, I’m sure it’s hard for her to trust that someone cares about her as much as you do.”
Tears begin to well in the blonde doctor’s eyes, “you really think so?”
“I do, I really do.”
You grunt in surprise as the woman’s body crashes against yours, giving you the most bone crushing hug that has even Wanda’s notorious bear hugs beat.
“Thank you, y/n,”
“Any time,” you smile, but your face twists in concern as the woman begins to sob. You wrap your arms tightly around her.
“I just want her to be okay,” Carol sniffles.
You gently stroke her hair, “I know, it’s okay. I know.”
Unbeknownst to the two of you, Brooke’s face twitches in recognition and her eyes begin to flutter ever so slightly.
_________
Wanda walks out behind the hospital near the ambulance bay, she smiles when she sees her brother sitting on the hard pavement.
“You didn’t want to eat at a table today?” Wanda holds up the bag of food she brought for her and Pietro for lunch.
“Nah, I thought we’d have a picnic like old times,” he smiles cheekily.
Wanda rolls her eyes playfully, “that wasn’t exactly by choice,” she chuckles before dropping down next to her brother.
The now bleach-blonde man rubs his hands together in anticipation, “What we got today?”
“Turkey sandwiches on ciabatta,” the redhead smiles.
“Hell yes!” He grabs the sandwich and rips the wrapping with his teeth.
“You’re a pig.”
“Am I at least cute?”
“No,” Wanda says with a smile. “How was your day брат”
“It was pretty good. Saved a couple of lives today for sure, so that feels nice. I also um… well I have a girlfriend now.”
Wanda’s jaw drops in shock, “Pi! I didn’t even know you were seeing anyone!”
“I know, I know. We always went to her place and kept it pretty low-key. I don’t know, I think I was scared. I’ve never had so many people that I care about at once. It’s so many people to worry over, you know? Especially her. I was in denial for a while and then just plain scared.”
“Lemme guess, your chat with Nat helped.”
Pietro nods, “It made me want to be more open and willing to share the deepest parts of me with someone I care a lot about.”
“Would you stop speaking in riddles and just get to the point and tell me who it is!”
“Monica,” Pietro can’t help but smile widely just mentioning her name.
“Oh my gosh Pi, that’s amazing,” she gives her brother a hug. Wanda loves Monica like a sister already, so she’s more than ecstatic that’s who caught her brother’s heart.
“Don’t make a big deal,” he rolls his eyes playfully.
“I won’t, I’m sorry… but eeek!”
“And you call me the pig?”
She hits her brother’s arm, “shut up.” “I’m really happy for you though, truly.”
“Thank you ses,” Pietro gives his sister a hug. ‘Now your turn,” he says as he pulls away.
“My turn for what?”
Pietro just gives a knowing look.
“Okay fine. Y/n, Nat and I all had a talk this morning and we’re dating. Nat is going to come over for dinner tonight for our first official date.”
“Wow, that’s great! What made her come around?”
Wanda smiles and rolls her eyes playfully, “you did actually, so thank you for that.”
“No problem and you can repay me by not scarring me for life tonight.”
“I’m glad you mentioned this. So, um, you gotta hang out somewhere else tonight buddy,” she pats his shoulder.
“Ew. Do I need to pack a bag?”
“...well I don’t want to be presumptuous, but–” her eyes darken and her brother groaned as if he’s sick.
“Enough said, I’ll stay at Mo’s.”
“Awww Mo!”
“Stop that! None of this teasing thing in front of other people, got it?”
“Yes sir,” she gives a sarcastic salute.
He rolls his eyes, “anyway, how are you feeling about spending time with Nat for the first time in so long? Do you think it’ll be weird?”
“I don’t know, I feel kind of nervous for some reason, but I also feel very very excited,” “Today just felt like old times so I’m sure we’ll be just fine tonight. You have to help me figure out what I’m making. I really want to blow them away,” Wanda says with a dangerous look in her eyes.
“Yeah like you’ll even sit down long enough to enjoy a meal.”
“Oh shut up,” she smacks her brother’s arm.
The siblings continue to joke and laugh and share their happiness with one another for the first time in decades.
