Work Header

two bros, chillin in a caravan, 0 feet apart because they're gay

Summary:

Kurusu and Sakamoto were close, anyone with a brain could see that. They were practically joined at the hip most of the time. But really, Zenkichi had never questioned it as more than a good friendship.

Then again, he couldn't really deny what was staring him in the face - not when they apparently hadn't heard him entering the caravan.

Work Text:

"Kurusu! You in there?"

Zenkichi paused just short of knocking on the door, instead waiting just outside to listen for a response. He had tried asking the other teens if they knew where he was, but the answers were… less than helpful. The Okumura girl had just giggled like there was something she wasn't telling him, meanwhile Sakura said he was 'probably with Ryuji' - for all the good that did him if he couldn't find either of them. Besides, those two were practically joined at the hip sometimes. He'd probably be more surprised if they weren't together, from what he'd seen.

Still, there was no answer from inside the caravan, but that didn't mean he wasn't in there. He could be napping, or just didn't hear him - so, it was probably a good idea to check anyways. So he pushed open the door, already starting to talk again; he wouldn't want to startle the kid. Especially since he was, you know, the leader of an infamous group who no doubt had self defense skills. Nothing compared to his own, but still. It'd be a hassle.

"Kurusu, you in here? I wanted to talk to you about- OH MY GOD!"

The shout was plenty warranted, if you asked him, considering the scene he had just walked in on. The decidedly not-platonic scene that made him damn well glad he didn't walk in ten minutes later because as much as he was surprised now, knowing teenage boys, any longer and it would've been a lot more scandalous.

Kurusu was openly staring at him, meanwhile Sakamoto had to lean back, because Kurusu was on top of him and - dear god he needed bleach for his brain. Thank god they still had clothes on at least.

“Gramps, uh, why didn’t you knock?!”

At least Kurusu climbed off of him now, leaving them separate and clearly fumbling to appear put together. Well, they weren’t doing a very good job of it, at any rate.

“I did! No one replied!”

At least they had the decency to look sheepish, exchanging a guilty look - and Zenkichi just sighed, rubbing his temples. He was getting a headache. He had been thankful when it seemed like there were no relationships among the Thieves, but then again, now he was wondering if he had just completely missed it. He assumed whatever was going on between Kurusu and Sakamoto had been good, platonic male friendship, but last time he checked, that didn’t really involve making out on the couch of a campervan.

“I, uh, I guess I didn’t hear,” Kurusu said, and Zenkichi had to hold back a sigh. That much was clear, that’s for sure. All of a sudden he felt much older, and he slumped against the wall, palm against his forehead. He felt very, very old all of a sudden. Too old to be babysitting a bunch of teens, that’s for damn sure.

“I’m guessing everyone else knows? And you didn’t inform me because…?”

Once again, they just looked at each other, and he could swear they were having a whole silent conversation. Kurusu would tilt his head, Sakamoto would raise his eyebrows a little, and somehow that was enough for them to communicate. It was impressive, actually.

“Didn’t really think it was relevant,” Kurusu said with a shrug, and Sakamoto just nodded along with him. And as much as he wanted to object, he… really couldn’t. They didn’t really have an obligation to disclose their personal matters, but somehow, he felt a little disappointed that they hadn’t mentioned it at least in passing. Damnit, he was getting too attached to these kids, wasn’t he? With the amount he was sighing, he felt like a deflating balloon.

“I’m not going to tell you what to do, just… please, make sure you use protection.”

It was almost worth it just to see the absolutely gobsmacked looks on their faces. Actually, that really was funny. He wasn’t sure what they had expected him to say, but it certainly wasn’t that.

“Wh- Gramps, we-”

“We will, thank you,” Kurusu cleanly cut Sakamoto off, and apparently took great delight in watching him go bright red. That smile on his face looked awfully like a smug cat. No wonder he had a cat with him at all times, he might as well be one.

“Right. Uh, I’ll catch up with you later, Kurusu. And, uh, be safe.”

He ducked out of the caravan, because he was pretty sure Sakamoto was about to try throwing a cushion at his head. Still, despite himself, he couldn’t help but smile ever-so-slightly. They seemed happy together, at least. Ah, young love.

“...”

The silence was extensive when Zenkichi left. Akira and Ryuji sorta just stared at each other, like they couldn’t believe what just happened.

But the silence was broken when Ryuji burst into laughter, and it wasn't long at all before he was joined by Akira. His shoulders shook with the force of his giggles, leaving him leaning on his boyfriend, and his smile afterwards threatened to hurt his face.

“...Well, he probably won’t be coming back for a while,” Akira said, still shaking off the remnants of his giggle fit, leaning into him again and pressing a kiss to his jaw - a kiss that made Ryuji grin eagerly.

“Well, I'm not objectin’.”
