"Hey, bean."
The sudden voice from behind them nearly made Remy jump, but they managed to still themself enough that it probably wouldn't be noticeable.
"How'd you find me?" They asked without turning their attention away from the night sky. They heard footsteps approaching and after a moment, they saw Emile sit next to them out of the corner of their eye.
"The string makes it pretty hard to hide, Rem." Emile said, giving them a look that Remy wasn't able to decipher out of the corner of their eye before he also looked at the night sky. "What's going on in that head of yours? Anything you wanna talk about?"
Remy shrugged, kicking their feet a bit at the ground. "Just not doing too hot lately. It's stupid." They said, leaning back on the park bench, still keeping their eyes on the sky. This was so stupid. Nothing was even wrong! Everything was great! Why do they feel like this?
"Hey now, Remy, nothing about the way you feel is stupid. All feelings are valid because they can't be controlled." Emile said, turning and looking at Remy again. Remy bit the inside of their cheek, glancing down and meeting Emile's eyes for a split second. He immediately noticed and smiled softly. "There's those pretty eyes of yours."
"Shut up, Em." Remy said, biting back a smile. They were already blushing lightly from the comment, no need to give Emile anything else to tease them about. "They're pretty much the same colors because we both have blue eyes. They aren't even that interesting."
"Woah, woah, woah. How would you feel if I said that about my eyes?" Emile asked, raising an eyebrow. "We have the same ones! That's kind of the whole point, Rem."
Remy bit the inside of their cheek again. "That's different."
"Nuh uh, no it's not." Emile said, shaking his head. "And I'll tell you exactly why I think they're so pretty. Your left one, the one that's your color, is such a pretty shade of blue. It's light and looks gray most of the time, which is so pretty, but then in certain lighting, it turns into just the prettiest shade of light blue. Your eye color is so pretty and I'm honored to have it on my face, too." He grabbed Remy's hand slowly, giving them time to pull away if they wanted, but they didn't, so he intertwined their fingers together.
Remy was most certainly bright red at this point, they could feel it, but Emile just kept going. "And your right eye is also really pretty! It's such a nice bright blue that really pops against your skin and your hair really compliments it. It sometimes looks the same as the other one, but that's okay. Plenty of people have the same colored eyes. There are only so many eye colors, bean." He leaned his head on Remy's shoulder, looking back up at the sky. Remy kept their eyes on Emile.
"And when you get excited, both your eyes sparkle and light up. I could stare at them for hours when that happens." Emile continued. "And I could ramble even longer about the rest of you. You're perfect, Remy. Flaws and all."
For a while after that, they didn't speak. They sat there on the bench in silence, holding hands and staring at the stars and moon. It really helped ground Remy back in reality where everything was fine. But instead of feeling guilty for still feeling bad, they didn't really feel bad anymore. Emile was good at getting Remy out of their own head, mostly by distractions.
"Thank you, by the way." Remy said, breaking the comfortable silence that had fallen over them. Emile turned his head away from the night sky to properly look at Remy, giving them a soft and loving smile.
"No problem, Rem. I'd do it every day if it meant keeping you here." He said, pushing himself up just enough to kiss Remy's cheek. "I love you, don't forget that. I'm always here for you. There's no need to run away."
Remy smiled and leaned his head against Emile's. "I love you too, dork." They said, earning a giggle and light shove from their boyfriend. "And yeah, I should stop running away and hiding."
"Yes you should," Emile said with a nod. "It never works very well, does it?" He held up his hand and wiggled his pinky. Remy rolled their eyes but held up their hand and wiggled their pinky back.
"Yeah, yeah, I get it. The string makes me easy to find."
"I wouldn't have it any other way." Emile said, smiling brightly before looking back up at the sky.
Remy smiled and leaned their head on top of Emile's. "I wouldn't either, babe."
