Much to Hera's surprise, Poseidon laughed. "Percy's different," he said once he'd calmed down. He met her eyes, something far too knowing in his gaze. Hera was reminded of ages long past and how Poseidon had, before Apollo's birth, held dominion over Delphi.
"He's a demigod," she snapped in reply, though she knew Poseidon told the truth. There was something more about Percy Jackson—they could all see it. It was even more than that, however, though Hera refused to voice the thought aloud, even to herself.

Or, Hera can’t help but hate and love Percy for being everything she could not have. The perfect son, the loving partner, and a demigod better than the world had seen in millennia.
