Chiaki liked dogs. A normal amount. Comet is nearly as tall as him and Kaoru. Would someone who didn't like dogs a normal amount have one that big?
Just because he really liked dogs, though, didn't mean he was qualified to watch four at a time. Especially not when Comet could take any of the other three out with one move, and he'd be stuck explaining why he was returning Bloody Mary in the same state they'd first found her in.
Not that Comet would ever do that, she'd always been docile around and even friendly towards other creatures of all kinds. The only things he'd ever seen her chomp on were sticks and food and stuff. Y'know, the usual. But Chiaki couldn't help but worry just a little bit with the way Leon was jumping at her and how Bloody Mary was trotting beneath her stomach and Daikichi trailing right behind her with his nose up her ass.
They probably looked ridiculous walking down the street. How he'd managed to get them all to a park in one piece was a goddamn mystery. But it's fine, they're here now and not dead, if the way Leon and Daikichi were playing was any indication. However, Mary was still hiding herself under Comet, nestled right between her front legs and against her fluffy chest. It wasn't cold out, and she knew the other two dogs far better than her new companion. Chiaki was a little concerned.
"Hey, Mary," he called over and clapped softly. She poked her head up, but didn't move from her spot. So he called again, and this time, she did trot over, but only after Comet gave her a little nudge with her snout. Chiaki couldn't help but chuckle, just a little. "Awww, c'mon," he sighed, scratching behind her tiny ears. "Don't you wanna run around? You tiny guys are always full of energy, I'm surprised you're not out there with your friends." Mary just stared at him with her beady little eyes. "Oh well, we'll be back here later anyways." She'd done her doggy business, so it was fine, he supposed.
Chiaki nearly crashed the moment he sat on the bed. He didn't even do anything but walk a little, how the hell did he get this tired? He shook his head and rubbed his eyes in an attempt to wake himself up. Daikichi mimicked the action and shook off like he were soaked and looked up at Chiaki expectantly. Were they still not tired? Really? He swore that dog was just like his owner.
"What?"
He felt one of them jump up onto the bed with him. Judging by the weight, he assumed it was Koga's. Leon sat next to Chiaki and looked down his snout straight at the Shiba. Dear lord, are they gonna fight? He sighed. Why did I even take them outside...
Strangely enough, though, he never pounced on the guy. He just kinda sat there, staring Daikichi down like he called his mom fat or something. If he noticed Leon watching him as if he were prey, he certainly didn't care. He wanted something, clearly, but what?
"I just fed you. If you eat any more, you're gonna puke and I-" he yawned. "-am not dealing with that right now."
Daikichi made some kind of sound and got closer to the bed. He stood on his hind legs, looking up at Chiaki with the biggest puppy dog eyes he's ever seen on a dog that size. Oh, did he want up, too? Why doesn't he just jump? Leon made it and he has less leg to work with. Eh, who cared? He picked the dog up and set her down next to Leon. The corgi nudged at him with his snout, all signs of whatever now totally gone. The two laid down next to each other for a nice little nap. Cute.
Now that there wasn't an impending fight about to break out, Chiaki toed off his shoes and went to check in on Comet and Mary.
Comet was (very loudly) drinking up the rest of the water in the bowl. Not surprising. She was a big dog and needed big amounts of everything. He could hear her slurping away from his bedroom, so he kinda already knew what she was up to. Mary, though, was nowhere to be found. She didn't come when he called her name, no bark or anything. He started to panic. Where is she? Did I leave her at the park? No, I remember carrying her back. Where could she have gone?
Comet, sensing her owner's frenzy, trotted to the bedside far slower than you'd expect from a dog who knew her human was on the verge of a panic attack. Why was that?
Bloody Mary, right there, staying comfortably between Comet's front legs.
"... are you fucking kidding me?"
Chiaki huffed out a sigh. "You were with her this whole time, huh?" he laughed dryly, then muttered an "I'm gonna kill myself" under his breath. He's gonna curse Kaoru for making that part of his vocabulary. Comet tried to back up to jump up, but kept stumbling over the stubborn little creature that had attached itself to her. Chiaki laughed and called Mary over. It never really seemed to do anything, but what else could the guy really do? She didn't seem to mind being picked up, so he held her until Comet was comfortable on the mattress. Predictably, Mary immediately went to snuggle up with the bigger dog.
Chiaki sighed, in both relief and disbelief. Who would have thought Comet would be so friendly to of the smallest of the bunch? As quietly as he could, he pulled out his phone and snapped a few pictures to send Nagisa later. They'll be happy to know Mary made a new friend today.
