Chapter Text
(Gameplay: Make sure you have a Skylander on the Portal of Power. For this chapter, we will use Jet-Vac.)
"Alright, let's have a look at this map." Hugo opened the map he got from Weezelda. "Kaos first struck the Aurora Forest. He's likely to head for the next place known for big plants and crawling with animals."
"And the map says the closest place like that to the Aurora Forest," continued Cali, "is the Glow Leaf Grove."
"That place is home to the Skyland Songbirds," exclaimed Mags. "We can't let Kaos hurt those little fellas!"
"Certainly not," agreed Jet-Vac. "Right, chaps, let's roll."
(Gameplay: Talk to Hugo to enter the level. Optional: Hang out in the Ruins. You now have access to Upgrades. Destroy the brambles surrounding the blocked off area for access to Persephone.)
Even though the sun had set by the time the gang arrived at the Glow Leaf Grove, it was still bright enough there to see what they were doing. Mags’ first instinct was to get the Skyland Songbirds to safety. “Alright, fellas,” she called to the other four, “their nests are usually in the middle of the grove.”
(Gameplay: Mags will head towards the middle of the grove. You have the option to follow her directly, or take the left or right paths to find enemies to fight. The left path has a wave of Chompies, and a little hut.)
Cali poked her head into a hut, where there was a Mabu with a straw hat inside. “Good evenin’, ma’am,” he greeted her. “What can I do for ya?”
“Kaos has been attacking forests and harming the animals,” Cali explained. “We’re here to protect the Skyland Songbirds.”
“Ooh, that’s bad,” said the Mabu, chewing on a sprig of wheat. “There should be six nests and eighteen birdies in the grove. Don’t you leave a single one of ‘em behind.”
(Gameplay: There are two Mabu in this hut, Darren and Shannon. Darren is the Mabu you can speak to for info about the songbirds. Shannon will challenge you to Skystones; defeat her for a Soul Gem.)
Flynn, with Hugo and Crestfeather trailing behind him, explored the right path of the grove. There was a patch of darkness off the path, from a hole revealing the sky, where the glow leaves didn’t shine. Flynn investigated the dark patch, and found a trio of Spider Spitters!
Now that simply wouldn’t do. Flynn punched down to smash the Spiderlings, Crestfeather blasted them with fireballs, and Hugo just hopped around, trying to step on them and squish them.
“Gross,” muttered Hugo. “I can’t stand Spiderlings.”
(Gameplay: Defeat all the Spiderlings in under 90 seconds for a Hat.)
In the middle of the grove, the Skyland Songbirds chirped innocently, unaware of anything else going on around them. Mags created a portal back to the Dread-Yacht. “Here ya go, Jet. This should get these little fellas to safety.”
(Gameplay: Collect all the Songbirds and bring them to the portal. Complete this minigame in under two minutes for a Story Scroll.)
“There!” Jet-Vac sheathed his vacuum. “That should keep them out of Kaos’ grasp.” But as he looked up, he noticed that further into the grove, some of the trees and leaves were turning a dark purple and rotting away. “What is that?”
Mags turned as well. “Aw, man, the Glow Leaves are rottin’! Come on!” The two of them ventured deeper into the grove.
Scattered on the ground were the grimy, festering remains of the Glow Leaves infected with darkness, and some sparkly gold acorns. Mags picked one of the acorns up. “These trees grow fast. If we plant enough, they should be able to replace the dyin’ trees!”
(Gameplay: You are given a three minute time period. Plant as many Glow Leaf Acorns as you can.)
As the acorns sprouted and grew, they pushed up into the sky, taking the place of the melting trees as they disappeared into nothing. “This should keep the grove alive,” quipped Jet-Vac. “That darkness must be Kaos’ doing.”
And indeed, hidden among the trees, Kaos had been hacking at as many Glow Leaf Trees as he could. When he saw the new trees sprouting up in the deep parts of the grove, he shouted to Glumshanks. “Hurry up! The Skylanders are on our trail!”
“I’m trying!” Glumshanks shouted back. “But it’s kinda hard to move Glow Leaves when you get shocked every time you touch them!”
And indeed, as soon as he said it, he received another jolt from the Glow Leaves, sparking the attention of the Skylanders’ team. Kaos, thinking quickly, got an idea. He moulded together globs of melted Glow Leaves with healthy saplings to create a behemoth of goop, and with a blast of electricity, the monster roared to life. “Go on! Fight the Skylosers! We’ll reconvene in the lair.”
The goop monster smashed its way through the grove to where the Skylanders’ team stood, and unleashed a mighty battle roar. “Whoa! Batten down the hatches, fellas!” Flynn yelled. “We’ve got a big boss to deal with!”
(Gameplay: This will trigger a boss battle. You can both attack the monster with your standard attacks, or lure him over to patches of healthy Glow Leaves to lower its health.)
Jet-Vac aimed his vacuum and blasted gusts of wind at the monster. The goop monster hurled acidic blobs of goo around, creating bubbly puddles on the ground.
(Gameplay: These bubbly puddles will be on the ground for about five seconds at a time before disappearing.)
Although Jet-Vac’s vacuum had a decent amount of power, the goop monster was much stronger. After one hit of acid too many, Jet-Vac disappeared into a beam of sparkling light.
“Shoot!” Cali shouted. “We’ll have to fend off this monster ourselves until the Portal Master sends out another Skylander!”
(Gameplay: There is no guarantee that the player will lose a Skylander’s life during this boss battle; this is just to demonstrate that Jet-Vac is not recommended to go up against this particular boss. For the remainder of the chapter, we will be using Gill Grunt, who is strong against this boss. Additionally, there are some timed moments during this boss fight where you can team up with Mags or Crestfeather for a stronger attack.)
Mags launched atomic gumball after atomic gumball, solidifying and crumbling parts of the monster, while Crestfeather lobbed bubbles of water to nullify the glop. Finally, Gill Grunt splashed down into the grove, blasting the glop monster with his Power Hose.
Eventually, the gumballs, bubbles, and Power Hose took its toll on the glop monster, and it dissipated into mist. XP balls exploded out everywhere. Mags wiped the sweat from her brow. “Whew… this grove trip has been way more busy than I expected.”
“Tell me about it,” grumbled Crestfeather. “At least those songbirds are safe. Now let’s get out of here before Kaos gives us any more grief.”

Soul Gem - Hummy Bear
Hummy Bear is an Undead Skylander. Once a cryptkeeper, Hummy Bear abandoned his post when he began to hear an odd hum in the air. No matter how much he followed it, he never found the source, but instead gained knowledge on fighting off the dark forces.
Catchphrase: “Can you bear the truth?”
Story Scroll: Skyland Songbirds
Skyland Songbirds can be found in the Glow Leaf Grove, and occasionally nest in the Peony Gardens. They hatch with white feathers, which grow into blue or purple feathers when they mature. Skyland Songbirds’ tune carries throughout Skylands, and some say that hearing one at the stroke of midnight will bring you luck.
