Work Text:

There was a man wandering in unclaimed land, looking for a purpose and a reason. You see, the man didn’t know why he was there or how he got in this word.

The only thing he knew was that he needed to find something, or at least hoped. Because if there was nothing for him here, why was he wandering for so long?

He did find it in the end, a cave. A purpose came to him, or it’s better to say an urge: to build a fountain in the plain close by.

Why? He didn't know but he still accepted the task. He gathers all the material, getting a lot of scars along the way. He placed all the quartz, making sure to create a piece of art. It needed to be perfect.

The fountain was raised where before there was nothing. He stands in front of it, admiring his hard work. Then the whisper started. The water was calling him, begging him to enter and immerse himself.

There was nothing else he could do so he decided to follow the whisper of the land.
He entered the water as a lost man and emerged as a new one.

No. It’s wrong, he didn’t get out as a new man, he was no man anymore.
He emerged from that water as a God, or was he really?

He sure was not mortal, but neither was he ethereal.

He gained power and beauty, that’s for sure. But what else did he obtain? And what did he lose?
