Chapter Text

4.

Robin was sprawled across Finney’s lap, snoozing away. Whilst this wasn’t a usual situation for them, something other than that felt… different. Finn was wide awake, hands running subconsciously through the sleeping boy’s hair. Fuck, what was wrong with him? 3 times so far, he couldn’t help but admire how gorgeous his best friend really was. 3 times so far, he couldn’t keep his eyes off him. 3 times so far that he had considered the fact he maybe wanted a romantic-

No, what was he even thinking? Relationships between men weren’t discouraged, they were on the verge of illegal. His dad always made sure to express how much he hated the gay couple across the street. He’s seen their house being egged; he’s seen them being harassed in public… If those two full grown men could barely handle it, how could he?

He sighed loudly, pausing his hand and bringing it to the ground. A tired groan escaped the boy on him as he blinked back into consciousness. Finn couldn’t help but grin at the rather cute sight before him.

“Morning, sleeping beauty.”

Robin scrambled frantically to get off Finn, cheeks flaming red, hair a mess. “Finney- fuck, sorry, oh my fucking God.”

“Don’t worry, you fell asleep on the floor. I moved you onto me because the beds too far away and I didn’t want your head to ache when you woke up.” He chose to ignore the hurt pang in his chest when the other called him Finney instead of his usual nickname.

“Well, obviously you couldn’t move me to the bed with your scrawny little ar-”

He was abruptly cut off by the other leaping at him, initiating a fight that both could easily guess he would lose. Still didn’t stop him from ferociously whacking Robin with the pillow he’d shoved under him. Laughter could be heard echoing through the house and Finn was thankful that his dad and Gwen were out. His moment of gratefulness was halted by hands shoving him backwards, an ungraceful sound escaping his mouth from the impact of his back hitting the ground.

“Damn, no mercy.” The brunette wheezed, laughing as he reached up to grasp at Robin’s forearms.

“Can’t have any mercy in a business like this.” A fond smile was playing across the traitor’s face, making Finney’s face heat up.

“Not even for me?”

“Cualquier cosa para ti.”

“What?”

“Nothing.”

Finney squinted his eyes, not believing that it was nothing. Well, if Robin wouldn’t tell him.

If anyone was in the house, they’d hear an extremely loud yelp of surprise as the long-haired boy was pushed aggressively on his back instead, Finney hovering over him with a victorious grin.

“No fucking fair!! I was distracted!!”

“It’s okay to admit you’re a loser, loser.”

“God.”

“He can’t help you now.” Finney let go of him, rolling over onto his side and tilting his head to admire the pink that settled over Robin’s features.

Yeah, he liked him more than a friend.

And he was okay with it.

The two boys hadn’t seen each other in a few days. Holidays, work, other shit… take your pick. But Finney had practically jumped for joy when the other asked him to go see a movie together. What movie? Good question. He didn’t bother to ask.

Looking around anxiously for Robin, his eyes caught a mirror, and he took a second to judge his own outfit. A green cardigan with some slightly noticeable holes in it, and some of his slightly nicer jeans. Unfortunately he couldn’t find anything better to wear, all his clothes had been thrown out in a fit of rage from his father and he could barely scrape together a few shirts and pants. Finn broke down that day.

“Why do you look so gloomy, enchantador?”

Finney forced a frown as the long-haired boy popped up beside him, despite the absolute flurry of butterflies in his stomach forming as Robin tossed a hand around his shoulder casually.

“You know I hate it when you say stuff that I can’t understand.”

He did not. Finney thought that when Robin spoke Spanish it was VERY nice to listen to.

“Yeah yeah.” There was that dumb fond smile again. It had something about it that made the other feel like he was missing something.

“Let’s watch the movie? It starts soon and I picked something I think you’ll like.”

“Uh, sure.”

“Let me just go grab some snacks.”

He didn’t wait for Finney to say his requests, just rushed off to the snack counter. You were insane if you didn’t think he was taking this moment to stare down Robin. He was rocking a simple tank top with a middle finger splayed across the middle, some bell bottoms as usual and his bandana. Basically just his regular outfit with a different shirt. Classic.

“You need to stop zoning out.”

Okay, so what if he nearly tripped over in fear.

“Jesus Christ, give me a warning before you try to murder me, Robin!” He scolded, taking the Coke and other various foods from the other.

“Is something on your mind, or what?” A small pause before his eyes widened and he went into panic-ramble mode. “Are you being bullied again? I swear I can tell those cabrones to fuck off all over again. Maybe even add a little fist into it this time, esos idiotas se lo merecan.”

“No, oh my God.” Finney set down the snacks and looked around to see if it was crowded. Luckily nobody was there, they picked a very quiet time to watch a movie. He placed his hands on both sides of Robin’s face and gave him a reassuring smile.

“I am not being bullied. It is nothing, just a weird day.”

Uncertainty was painted across the other’s face. However, he just sighed deeply and nodded.

“Okay. You can tell me any shit you need to though.”

“Who’s the sap now.”

“I take it back.”

The smiling boy could feel Robin’s face become warmer under his hands as they held eye contact for a beat longer than needed. His smile dropped as well as his hands as he mumbled an apology, grabbing the snacks and rushing off to the movie room as the wide-eyed stare never left him.

The energy after that movie hang was... different. Neither boy could describe it. It was just weird. The air was heavy between them. Everybody could tell something was up.

At the moment they were just sitting in the library at school, Robin reading something with vague interest and Finn finishing up on his studies for the day.

“I’m going to go to the bathroom.”

Not looking up from his page and without speaking, the long-haired boy nodded in acknowledgement to Finney’s announcement. Sighing, the previously studying boy got up and exited the room.

Why were they acting so weird? Had Finney messed up somehow?

His thoughts followed this general train up until he entered the bathroom and made direct eye contact with the boys that constantly used to make his life hell. Looking away as soon as he noticed who it was, he instinctively ducked into a stall and shrank into a tiny ball.

“Finney.”

“Finnneeyyyy.”

His heart was pounding as he counted to three again. Normally when he got to the 5th time they had left.

Not this time.

The slam on the bathroom door sent him flinching, hands beginning to shake.

“Get out, you faggot!”

Hesitantly opening the door, he was met with 3 pairs of cold eyes.

He was so fucked.

“So nice to see you again, have you been avoiding us?”

“I don’t know, cabrones. Was he?”

Everyone’s attention flicked over to Robin, who was leaning against the door frame with a look that could fucking kill if it needed to.

“Fuck off before I make you.”

The 3 boys rushed off with no hesitation, the ginger one shooting a look at Finn. A look that said he’d be back.

Now he had to deal with Robin. Would it be problematic if he said he’d prefer the bullies to come back?

“Finn. You said that they stopped.” He looked… hurt. Finney wanted himself to die right now because he knew he was the reason for the hurt in the other’s eyes.

“They did, I swear! I don’t know what just happened. I just walked in and went to go take a piss and then they came up to me and oh my God I think my heart stopped it was fucking-”

He was interrupted by two strong arms pulling him into an embrace, and he swore he didn’t know he was crying until he felt his tears fall onto the shoulder in front of him. Wrapping his own arms around Robin, he sobbed as quiet as he could while the arms holding him traced gentle firm circles on his back.

He forgot what it was like to be genuinely scared around those people.

As his silent sobs came to an end, he looked up at the other with the intentions of apologising for getting his shirt all wet along with his arm. Before he could even get to that, lips were on his. Stiffening up for a second, he felt the warmth begin to pull away and he nearly screamed. No!! That was not what he meant to do!

Finney grabbed the soft material of Robin’s shirt and yanked him closer, kissing him back with force to emphasise that yes, he 100% wanted this.

A soft laugh echoed through the room, and both brunettes smiled into the kiss. The circumstances around whatever this may be were fucked up, but they would try their best to make this work. They had to.
