Chapter Text
On Sand"s eleventh day in office, the Jedi finally started to wonder where Anakin was.
And so, of course, they went to Rex.
Rex was in the middle of a meeting with Chancellor Sand, which meant he was able to stall for a good half an hour, during which he came up with a variety of excuses, most of which would be entirely outlandish if they were talking about anyone but Anakin.
Perhaps he"d been kidnapped by the ghost of a long dead Sith Lord who intended to sacrifice him in some Dark Side ritual. Or maybe he"d gone undercover in a new crime ring that the Chancellor needed investigated. Or maybe he was off buying a birthday gift for Ahsoka that required a quick stop to Shili and would be back soon. After all, Sand didn"t need to be available at all hours, and Anakin could return to the Temple soon enough, once the initial scrutiny died down. It was to be expected, at least to the Council, that he would visit the new Chancellor"s quarters, after all.
Yes, maybe he was visiting Senator Amidala on some important business, Masters, and Rex really didn"t think they"d appreciate the interruption, if you knew what he meant.
Maybe another day, when Sand wasn"t standing right there.
"We"re just concerned that we haven"t heard from him, you see," Shaak Ti was saying.
"Didn"t he tell you?" Rex pretended to be surprised. "Anakin- Master Skywalker, sorry- left a few days ago to handle a family issue on Tatooine. His step-brother commed him, I"m not quite sure what it"s about."
"Ah," Plo Koon said. He had an air of banthacrap about him. Rex suspected that Plo knew that he had adopted the same child twice- some sort of Buir sense that the rest of them didn"t possess. But he also suspected that Plo was enjoying them fooling the rest of the Council as much as they were, and therefore wouldn"t say anything. "Of course. Tell him we wish him well, and hope to see him when he returns."
"Of course," Rex said, and left it at that.
