Chapter Text
The lower right corner of the women's changing room wall, all its light shades of pink and blue and yellow, is the direction Song Yuqi has been looking at with her head so firmly still and her eyes practically immobile for quite some time. Nevertheless, while it looks like she's just bored — she's been waiting for her friends for nearly fifteen minutes — the truth exposed by her dilated, unfocused pupils is that she's sunk deep into her thoughts, too far away to be caught by the prying eyes of the rest of her soccer team members who pass by giving her an unwanted attention.
The first memory Yuqi has of her life is from one year and six months ago, and that is precisely what occupies her overthinking mind so much. There is no remnant of any moment from her childhood — or any other moment in general, for that matter — that preceded her awakening in that lonely roadside outside Incheon City, and that alone is enough of an answer as to why she keeps coming back to this one page of her life’s book, be it of her liking or not.
It was an early Saturday morning and the sun hadn't even started to burn yet. She woke up with her body barely dressed and lying on the dry, sandy ground that bordered the road. Next to her was a black car with its doors open leaning half in and half out of the lane — every inch of its metal top was damaged, and the passenger seat door was lying loose on the floor.
She recalls feeling confused and hungry and of all of her muscles aching, the small gash on her forehead burning and the bruise on her knee making her limp.
There was a motionless body on the ground that Yuqi only noticed after she managed to stand up. It belonged to a lady who, from the documents she found inside the car, she discovered to be named Kwon Hira, mother of two children and wife of a dentist. Forty-three years old.
She had no idea who that woman was to her.
Her own name came to her like a feeling, an emotional whisper rising from the back of her head. Song Yuqi.
She genuinely doesn't know what would have been of her if Shuhua hadn't found her, if Shuhua hadn't seen the accident, asked her grandmother to park the car on the side road, gotten out of the vehicle and gone to Yuqi to offer help... If she hadn't explained to her what it means to be a supernatural.
But it all happened almost two years ago, and now Yuqi has more memories to fill her brain database with.
Still, it's just this specific one that haunts her daydreams.
"You ready or what?" Minnie asks, catching her attention. The vampire stretches out in front of Yuqi as she looks at her, but her hands are still trying to find any flaws in her uniform.
"Ya! I was ready fifteen minutes ago!" Yuqi protests, frowning and standing up with clenched fists. Being a werewolf is to have a short temper, that is common knowledge by now.
It's true, however, that on every practice day, Yuqi is the first one of the trio of friends to get ready. All she has to do is put her uniform on, while Minnie spends fifteen minutes customizing the way the clothes fit her body and Shuhua use the same amount of time to fix her hair. They are obsessed with themselves.
"Don't blame me if you don't give a fuck about your looks," Shuhua says. "It's not my fault if you walk around looking like a homeless men, willingly."
"Rude!" Yuqi lowers her head to look at her own clothes. The school's soccer uniform is the same as any others. Loose shorts and a sleeveless loose shirt. She already doesn't put too much thought into what she wears in general, so of course she wouldn't mind what covers her body as she runs and sweats around a field after a ball. She still doesn't look bad, though! "This is why people call you a bitch, you witch."
"Dying of laughter. Ha ha ha," Shuhua rolls her eyes. "As if every other witch in the school hasn't heard that one before."
"Come on, you two, move your asses!"
"Now she's in rush," Yuqi grumbles, but still starts her walk to out of the locker room along with the other two.
The day is sunny and the court is huge. The rest of the team is already stretching out in an informal circle as Coach Kwon has her eyes fixed on the clipboard in her hand. Yuqi starts sweating before she even gets there.
"Coach Kwon, we're here!"
"I have eyes and ears, Shuhua," the woman says without moving. "Thank you very much."
Yuqi stretches her legs to start her routine, but just by one look at her friends' faces she starts laughing. She knows what they're thinking, though neither of them can say it out loud without getting a suspension. Coach Kwon needs sex. She kind of agrees.
They start with five laps around the court and then practice a few plays. Yuqi particularly likes the main rule for being part of the team being about banning supernatural powers. There, they are all the same and, for a second, human too. Not that she doesn't like being a werewolf — she can barely survive a whole week without wolfing out —, but she admits it's kind of cool to be ordinary for a while. And they always play against a team from a nearby school, so it makes sense for them to stay true to the game's original, humane customs.
Halfway through their exercises, like every other practice day, Shuhua becomes somewhat unfocused and Yuqi tries not to roll her eyes too often, until Shuhua actually gives up on trying to hide it and stops what's she's doing to wave at her girlfriend.
Seo Soojin, one of the Seo twins, is in the stands, now sitting, watching the practice because the day's classes are over and there isn't much to do at a boarding school. She wears a one-piece, purple dress that covers just past her thighs and leaves her shoulders bare with the thin strap, and her hair is pulled back in a ponytail. Her twin — fraternal — is there too, beside her, still in her school uniform. Seo Miyeon, although she prefers to use her mother's last name. Cho Miyeon.
Both twins aren't very social, but Miyeon is by far the friendliest. Minnie likes to say that Soojin has the most weird friends and Miyeon has the normal ones — normal for the school's standard, of course.
It kind of suits them, this being different thing. There isn't a huge glaring difference in their personalities, they are somewhat similar, but there is in the species to which they belong. They are not like the other witches in the school. They belong to an ancient and very particular coven, the siphoners. They are the last of their origin, it best be added, and they're both judged for it sometimes, at times by some other witch, at times by some vampire or werewolf with whom they've had a falling out.
The fact that they don't have magic of their own, that they have to suck it from other things and people to practice magic, always seems to gain its prominence in arguments, silly as it may be. The sluts, they’re called.
"Head in the game, loser," Yuqi throws the ball at Shuhua in a teasing.
"Yah! Don't try me, Song Yuqi!"
Half an hour later, they're twice as sweaty and honestly sick of having to deal with Hwang Yeji and her unwanted snarky comments. But instead of heading back to the locker room to change, Yuqi and Minnie follow Shuhua straight to the stands.
"JinJin-ah!" She shouts, and Yuqi can swear there are hearts in her eyes.
Soojin gets up and approaches with a smile. Since Shuhua is sweaty and probably not smelling so good, she gives her a peck on the lips and pats her face with both hands.
"You did great today, ShuShu," she says.
"God, they're gonna make me puke," Minnie’s face is frowned in disgust. "And it's not even dinner time yet!"
"Yeah, well. Welcome to my world." The comment comes from a darker, if high-pitched voice. The most unusual one to be heard in any social environment. It belongs to Jeon Soyeon, the girl Yuqi finds sitting two seats below Miyeon. Soojin's best friend.
Everyone knows who Jeon Soyeon is, and those who don't know her deduce who she is from her last name. Jeon, the surname of the most powerful family in the supernatural world. The original family. The first vampires to exist, the creators of all the vampires that followed. Her father Jeon Byeonghwa was named 'The Great Evil' in the history book Yuqi once read in the library, but he died a few years ago, as did Soyeon's mother Ju Hyekyung.
He died by a stake and she was burned alive.
Her uncles and aunts are still around, though. The eldest, Wonwoo, remains lonely in Paris, devastated by the family's loses. The millennial witch, Jeon Heejin, is married and raising her first child in the family's hometown, Daegu. Love-sick Jeon Somi is enjoying her honeymoon somewhere in the world with her vampire husband. And the youngest, Jeon Jungkook, continues to wander Seoul completely inconsolable after the death of his boyfriend and declared love of his life, Shin Jimin, who was murdered in a local war in Daegu nearly ten years ago.
With such a heavy background, it's only natural for Soyeon to be this introspective and antisocial and sometimes moody and bad-mouthed young woman. Today in particular, however, she doesn't carry any heavy expressions. She seems calm enough to have added a silly comment.
Her clothes are the same as always. A black printed shirt and short ripped shorts. She has nice legs. And her haircut, messy black strands that run down to her shoulders, gives her a sexy rebel look.
"I'm the one who's with them the most," Miyeon steps in. "I'm the only one who actually has a place of speech!"
"All of you, shut up!" Shuhua shouts, starting to rage. "You are just jealous, but guess what? Not my fault if I'm the only datable one!"
Minnie wrinkles her nose. "That's not even a word."
"Okay!" Yuqi interrupts. "I'm going now. Good day for the rest of you!"
"Where are you even going?!" Shuhua questions, but Yuqi’s already moving, heading back to the changing room to get her things.
Already in the school hallways, she notices Minnie's voice, a soft and almost imperceptible 'Wait up!', and stops to let her friend catch up with her pace. Minnie clearly uses her super speed for it.
"Did you see it? Miyeon is totally into Shuhua." Minnie holds back this smug smile that tells Yuqi she must be feeling like the smartest person in the world.
"Really? I didn't notice anything," Yuqi says back, genuinely not having paid any attention. She is usually as curious as her friends, but today maybe Jeon Soyeon's unusual presence distracted her a little.
"She really is," Minnie insists and laughs. "Can you imagine it? Loving your sister's girlfriend? Kinda sad. And pathetic."
There's something wrong with her voice tone, tough. The way she pronounces the words, the way her face molds to release them from her mouth. It's almost bitter, like jealousy.
"Why do you care so much?" Yuqi questions.
"I don't," she becomes defensive.
"You do, though."
"I really don't." Suddenly, the vampire stops and so Yuqi realizes that they have already reached the hallway of the girls' dormitory. Vampires to the right, wolves and witches to the left, in order to prevent unwanted accidents from happening.
Saved by the bell.
Minnie gives Yuqi a brief, simple tap on the shoulder to get her attention. "Hey! I'll see you at dinner?"
Slowly, the wolf nods. "Yeah. See ya."
Each one goes in a different direction, but Yuqi slows her steps a little until she sees her friend enter her room and hears the sound of the door closing. Afterwards, she ends the path to her own bedroom.
Her roommate is Son Hyeju, a sixteen-year-old girl who joined the school and the pack last year. She is originally from Busan, but ran away after accidentally killing during a fight a classmate who raped her girlfriend at a party. Counselors at the Idle Boarding School For the Young and Gifted found her in a forest near the North Korean border, freaking out about becoming a four-legged, black-furred creature and in crisis with her own inner wolf.
Hyeju is a teenager. For God's sake, she's also a wolf. There's no possible universe in which their room is anything but a war zone — in Hyeju's defense, though, Yuqi is also quite messy herself.
There are garments on the floor, the shelves are overcrowded with perfumes and skin products and jars of mortified animals — which obviously belong to Hyeju —, Yuqi no longer recalls the last time their beds were made, and the closed curtains don't exactly help maintain a bright and clean environment.
Finding herself alone, she sighs and pulls the curtains short to the ends of the walls. The room needs some light. Yuqi takes off her clothes, throws them in the laundry basket promising that she will wash them by the end of the week and heads to the bathroom. There is a mirror attached to the wall next to the sink that allows her to have a clear look of her entire body, from head to toe. Of her light skin and the blonde hair she's had since she woke up on that road. She stands in front of it for what seems like an infinity of moments and lists her knowings and not knowings because sometimes she still feels disconnected from reality and listing facts helps her focus on the now when self-reflection tries to sink her into herself.
She is Song Yuqi. She is twenty-two years old. She is a werewolf. She likes Polaroids and guitars and watching witches do magic.
And she doesn't know shit.
She doesn't know where she was born, or who her parents are, or what she did and was all those years before Shuhua found her in that roadside.
The thought of it used to make her spend days in bed without moving. No eating, no peeing, no talking to anyone. A continuous and intense state of vegetation. But that was back in the first few months after she arrived on campus. Now she's still affected by it, just not as much.
"Wake the fuck up, Yuqi," she tells herself while cupping her own face.
She has a cute one, they say. Something between a puppy and a doll. She finds it much more satisfying and motivating when people give saucier compliments, though.
When the hot water hits her naked, heated body from training, that's when Yuqi truly relaxes. Ah. This is something to add to the list, something she loves deeply. Showers. To feel the water running through her skin, relaxing her muscles, calming them. Making her feel alive, even though everything around just feels numb. There are no sounds, no vibrations, no nothing. It's like the whole world is filled with darkness and she's the only shiny thing within a thousand miles.
Wolves are not usually very fond of water, but she would spend her entire lifetime under it if she could.
"Figured I'd find you here," the voice comes from behind her. It's that deep, masculine tone that Yuqi has been getting used to over the last couple of months. It belongs to Wong Yukhei, the only true male friend she has, who is also part of the same pack.
Yukhei was responsible for helping her adapt when she arrived and they quickly discovered similar traits in their lives. To be quite honest, he's a good, convenient fuck. Not much conversation is needed.
"Sorry, my phone died before practice," she says. She was supposed to text him when she got to her room.
"Not a problem right now," his voice gets closer and soon his breath is against her neck — his hands, one on her waist to hold her and the other pressing her boob. His touch is firm and familiar, and his skin makes her want to take control even as she fights the urge to.
He puts himself inside her with a thrust that makes her press her hands against the wall as not to fall, and then there's not many words to be said.
The water drops continue to run down against them.
The full moon was shining high in the sky. It was a starry Thursday night. There was a single man on the sprawling porch under the moonlight, his body filled with black pieces, but covered to his feet in his signature blood-red cloak — the famous cloak that traumatized that century and marked the history books of the years to come.
He rested his hands on the thick banister as he took in the view of the village at the top of the hill. It was his; all the houses, all the plantations, all the children and the women and the men. Absolutely everything belonged to him, to the Count, and he obeyed neither the Emperor nor the King nor any Church. Was it what or who it was, if once in that hill, then would come to be rightfully his.
His age was a mystery and so was his name. But his title, the identification given to him and which became common sense on the continent so that no one would risk mistaking his presence, was very well known by his submissives, acquaintances and especially by the witnesses of his atrocities. The Scarlet Count. The great, the mighty, the powerful.
His loneliness didn't last long, however. The sound of the countess's heels soon began to sound, becoming louder and louder as she walked towards her lover. Once she reached him, her hands circled his waist and she rested her head comfortably against his strong, muscular shoulders. With her long, loud sigh, he turned in her grip and faced her.
They had been seven years old when they met for the first time, one hundred and thirty-six years before. She had always been beautiful, and used to be the prettiest in the village they came from, populated only by the pack and the witches — sweet brown eyes, a sharp, oval face, a long nose, skin as soft as cotton and fragrant like rose, delicate and thin lips, almost hand-drawn. The Alpha's daughter. This when the village still existed, as imagined. Now everything was just a pile of ashes and memories and lost history.
"There is worry in your eyes," the Count told her, his red eyes surveying her entire face as one of his hands stroked the brown waves of her hair.
"I fear..." She shifted her gaze to the collar of his robe and swallowed. Her eyes gleamed I against the moonlight to the point where she looked like the most angelic being that ever set foot on earth. "I can still feel them looking for me. I fear their doings."
"It has been more than a hundred years, my love. They cannot reach you here. Not with me," he assured her, so deep in his loyalty. "You are safe, my love, as you will always be as long as I am alive."
"What have I done to deserve such a perfect men?" She sighed dramatically, then her face changed. A smile. An invite. "It is time for your eating." She pulled away and offered him her hand. "Come with me?"
with hands clasped, they returned to the inside, where a feast awaited them in the huge castle's dining room. The rest of the Count's family was already helping themselves, and there was the widest variety of food the continent could offer. Men, women. Blondes, brunettes, redheads. About four bodies already lay motionless on the table, bloody marks and cuts all along their lengths. The other victims were spread out, trapped in a trance of mental compulsion so intense it didn't matter how much pain they were in or how dazed their minds found themselves, their visions blurred. They would continue on their feet, gaze focused and mouth shut, until their minds gave way to unconsciousness.
The Scarlet Count smirked at the sight, let go of his beloved's hand and approached with his fangs bared.
"Song Yuqi!" Shuhua's scream wakes her up and she jumps in the bed.
"Seriously?!" Yuqi blows the hair out of her face. "Can you be any more considerate?"
"I called your name four times." The witch keeps on with her own route unbothered. It is her room after all, not her fault if her best friend likes to sleep in it. She walks to her closet and rummages through all the drawers until she finds the two pieces of clothing she's after.
"What time is it?" Yuqi asks, rubbing her eyes with her hands.
"Nine-thirty."
"Am?"
"In your dreams."
Yuqi sighs in frustration and decides to lie down for a little longer. It's not that she was having a good sleep, but she's getting used to her nightmares already. Dangerously. She watches from the comfortable mattress as Shuhua walks naked into the bathroom and returns five minutes later wrapped in a towel.
"Aren't you gonna dress up?" There's a panty in her hand and it's such a funny view because her face is dripping wet, although her hair is as dry as a bone, and she makes weird poses to put on the skin moisturizer.
"Can I borrow your clothes? I'm not really feeling like going back to my room."
"Sure. Just keep it in mind that it does not matter how much I love you. If you don't give me my stuff back, I will have you murdered."
Rolling her eyes at the empty threat, Yuqi stands up and opens the door on the side of the wardrobe where the dresses are hanging.
"Where's your roommate at?" She asks.
"Probably at the party."
"Already?" She frowns. "Didn't it like, start ten minutos ago?"
"Yeah, but Minju's been seeing that ugly boy from your pack, so I'm assuming she's with him."
Yuqi doesn't make any more questions. Instead, she puts on the cute black dress she's seen Shuhua wear once — nothing fancy, quite simple, in fact — and chooses to keep the oatmeal-colored jacket she came in with from her room earlier. It's twice her size, but it still carries the soap scent from the shower she took after class and it makes her feel comfortable. If perhaps she finds herself in a like to show more skin, she'll just give it to someone to hold for her.
"JinJin is waiting for us," Shuhua comments with her gaze fixed on her phone screen.
"Is she with Minnie?"
"And Miyeon too, but I though that was implied."
Yuqi rolls her eyes. "Let's go, then."
They leave the room together after Shuhua mutters a tidying spell, and they head into the forest surrounded by a bunch of spells so no one can see nor hear them. Once near the hill and out of reach of the Academy's security cameras, it all disappears.
Minnie is the first one to catch them.
"Were y'all playing the bride or what?" She mocks. There's a red cup in her hand — certainly not filled with water — and she's dressed in a short printed skirt, a white crop top and a short black jacket. Her belly button is showing, but her bangs and hair are on point.
"Don't blame it on me!" Shuhua shouts in self-defense. "Yuqi was still sleeping when I walked in the room, I had to wait her get ready!"
"Dude, I took like, ten minutes," Yuqi protests.
"Whatever. Where is my girlfriend?" The witch's gaze shift direction and her whole face lights up. "JinJin-ah!"
She runs to Soojin, who was already making her way towards the trio, and hugs her tightly, making heart eyes and loving expressions and saying sweet words.
"They saw each other one hour ago," Minnie remindd by Yuqi's side, looking at the couple as if truly trying to understand how that, the whole picture of them, can happen. How love can make a person so idiotic.
"I'll get myself a drink," Yuqi murmurs back, divided by her two distinct opinions. Half of her thinks they're extra and too clingy and kind of gross. The other half is completely jealous because it makes her want to be loved and cared and followed around like a fucking cult. She wants to be put at the top of a pedestal just like Shuhua does to Soojin.
Her feet are already following the loud noise of drunk youngsters and music when Miyeon, who no one but Minnie noticed was there just behind Soojin, grabs her arm and forces her to stop.
"I... I wouldn't go there like- Like, right now," she tries to whisper, but they're in the midst of supernatural creatures and all it takes is one look from Shuhua for Yuqi to break free of the grip and walk fiercely into the center of the party with her best friend by her side.
What she finds makes her want to throw up.
Yukhei is there next to his friends, but on the edge of the dance circle, moving his body to the beat with a beer in one hand and the other smacking the rollying ass of a girl in a red dress, both forcing their bodies against each other's. He's smiling like a kid who's just been given a new toy and his gaze is so fixed on the barely dressed silhouette in front of him that he completly misses Yuqi standing less than nine feet from him.
"Oh, I'm gonna kill that dirty dog," Shuhua speaks through gritted teeth. Her face is already turning red with anger.
"Do you want me to do something?" Soojin offers, already with her hands on Minnie's arm to channel magic for whatever spell. "I could set his clothes on fire, if you want."
"Soo, that's barbaric!" Miyeon replies. "Give him a long lasting itch or... I don't know, something less deadly."
"Give him a boner!" Minnie votes, grinning at her own imagination. "That would be fun to watch."
Shuhua makes a face. "Gross."
"Don't do anything," Yuqi says, then takes a deep breath. "I'm gonna go take a walk. Wolf out."
"Are you sure?" Miyeon's attentive eyes find hers.
"Yeah."
"You want company?" Shuhua asks.
"No. It's fine, I'll be back in a bit."
She does not wolf out. Instead, she walks and walks and stares at the branches and at the threes and at everything surrounding her while thinking about the scene she's just seen and how it makes her feel. Yuqi tends to mix up her feelings and emotions a lot, so every time she's not build up on adrenaline at the time the situation happens, she tries to reflect on what's in her head before acting.
They're not dating — Yukhei and she. They are not a couple. And they have not had the talk to make them exclusive, either. But it's just that they are such good friends, and Yuqi has grown fond of him. He's easy to deal with and a nice company and... It's simple. He gives her orgasms. She was expecting to end the night at his room, or somewhere in the woods under a three. Not that. She's never even seen him with anyone in public before because he's usually not a show-off and, damn it, they had sex every single day of the last week. They have been spending so much time together. The least he could've done was to warn her, have some respect for their companionship.
Going further in the forest, she finds a big rock next to a lake that has a clear sight of the sky and sits on the top of it to stargaze.
Jealously is not the word. She isn't jealous. She is mad. Mad for his lack of consideration, for the energy he did not take thinking about how she would feel. She fears she might punch him in the face if she sees him again tonight.
Her final decision is that she won't return to the party. She'll be better off at her room, resting or listening to music or finally cleaning that mess of a bed she sleeps in. She won't be missing much, honestly, and there's always the next one — it happens once every month, the party. The werewolves give it after the full moon is gone so the members of the pack who still have problems turning can release their stress until the next month. Every witch is invited, but not every vampire, for logical reasons.
The decision is made by choosing the thing that will most give her peace of mind. The space will allow her to disconnect herself from him, to adjust the way she sees their friendship, to extinguish any and every thought she ever had of considering giving him a chance to be something more than just friends. But right when she comes down from the rock, she hears an unwanted voice shouting out for her.
"Yuqi!" It's Yukhei, not much far away. With his werewolf nose and her strong and known wolf scent, it doesn't take long for him to catch up with her, even though she keeps on walking. "Yuqi, wait!"
Her heels turn just out of anger. "The hell do you want?"
"Listen, it's not like that," he takes a breath and wets his lips, already afraid he might say the wrong thing. "She's just a friend."
"Yeah? Like I am your friend?"
"It's not like we are exclusive, either!"
"For God's sake, Yukhei, I know we aren't!" She is shouting now, triggered by his insistence. "I just wished you had a little bit of consideration for me, for our friendship, specially because of the last few days. Respect, at least."
"I know, I'm sorry," his tone is low, hurt, and his face withers. He looks down, disappointed at himself.
He is not a bad guy. He is not used to do the kind of thing he did today and Yuqi knows this. She knows him. It's for knowing it and him that she asks her wolf to let the anger go, to open her heart and free her shoulders of the weight rage puts on them. She forgives him. She doesn't want to ruin their friendship because he is a good friend, he's always there for her when she needs him and their dynamic is very enjoyable. But they surely will not be sleeping together ever again, for there will always be a little bit of resentment now, and being inside of her after tonight is ask for too much.
"It's gonna be fine, we're cool," Yuqi assures him with a calming voice. "Just go back to your party, I want to be alone."
On second thought, he grabs her arm. "Wait! Yuqi, I-"
She said she wants to be alone.
The voice does not sound, it is felt. It vibrates inside their heads and it makes Yuqi shiver for a moment. The imposing strength within it is enough to make Yukhei let go of her wrist. It's an Alpha’s.
When Yuqi looks around to search for the source, it has already revealed itself. A wolf, of course, a seven feet tall creature with golden fur and shining silver eyes, coming from a path of thick dark bushes.
Yuqi knows every single member of her pack and there's only one werewolf no one in school has seen in wolf form. Jeon Soyeon. Yuqi forgets Soyeon is also a wolf sometimes, since she usually behaves as a regular witch thanks to her proximity to Soojin.
She is the tribrid. The one person in the world who belongs to all three groups of supernatural creatures, but fits in with none at the same time. She is her own species. She comes from a long lineage of powerful witches, but her father was a werewolf before being turned into a vampire, making him the original hibrid. Her mother, an Alpha, also turned into a hibrid after Soyeon's birth.
A witch who's a werewolf who's a vampire — actually, not a vampire yet because she hasn't died and therefore her vampire curse hasn't been triggered.
She's the most powerful being on the planet.
Still, Yukhei finds smart to snap at her.
"Get out, freak. This is a private conversation," he says. There's fear in his voice, but something bitter, too.
In response, the golden wolf's lips lengthen and its eyes become sharper. Its teeth are half-showing. The wolf begins to growl and approach with terribly dangerous slowness, its pupils fixed on the boy in front of it, and its aggressiveness triggers Yukhei's transformation. His clothes rip into a thousand pieces in the air as his body turns into a furry beast. He is two-thirds the size of Soyeon and his fur is dark gray.
For him to win in a fight against her, there would have to be a great blessing from the gods, and even then his victory would be doubtful. He, nevertheless, returns her growls until she loses her temper and howls with all her might, which makes him shudder and slump against the floor.
Soyeon isn't exactly a friendly person, it is obvious her wolf wouldn't accept insubordination.
She continues a power dispute that she has already won and Yuqi panics as she wakes up from her shock and realizes that the Alpha's control over Yukhei is hurting him both physically and mentally.
"Soyeon," she screams, but the big golden beast pays her no heed. "Soyeon, look at me!"
Its head flips, waking from its own domination, and it fixes its posture.
Leave.
This time, Yukhei is smart enough to run away as fast as his wolf can.
Finally alone, Soyeon jumps towards Yuqi without Yuqi even flinching, but it is her human body that stands angrily in front of the blonde.
"The fuck were you doing?! You could have gotten yourself killed!" The tribrid shouts so aggressively that Yuqi almost thinks it was someone else there seconds ago defending her from Yukhei.
The adrenaline, though, is already running through the werewolf's veins. It is not a good time for Soyeon to try to fight her.
"Excuse me? I was here first!" Yuqi defends in the same volume.
"Have you noticed where 'here' is?!"
Only then does Yuqi look up, above the trees and its high branches, and by not seeing the school towers, she recognizes that she went too far on her walk, that the big rock and the river and the clearing she is in now are all located in a part of the school's forest that is forbidden since Soyeon triggered her werewolf curse seven years ago. It is her place to wolf out, because she is the Alpha of the Alphas, her wolf doesn't respond to anyone, isn't linked to anyone, doesn't submit. She isn't in control of herself most times she turns.
The angry grimace on Yuqi's face melts and she steps back. "Sorry, I- I didn't realize."
"That's quite obvious," Soyeon rolls her eyes and then does something that makes the blonde go as still as the rock she was sat in. She approaches Yuqi until they can feel each other's breath on their faces and puts her hands on Yuqi's shoulders to push her jacket down her arms. She doesn't seem to care about her complete nudity, nor to her boobs jiggling when she lifts her own arms above her head to fit the holes in the jacket.
Maybe Yuqi states a little bit — and perhaps her mouth opens a few inches.
In a blink of an eye, Soyeon starts walking away.
