Dear Megumi

Summary:

Megumi is going through Itadori's belongings that gojo gave him after his execution and finds a letter with his name on it.

Notes:

This was heavily inspired by @/passionfruitmacarons on tiktok & obviously Ymir's letter to Historia!! all credits go to them!

Work Text:

Feelings, Megumi couldn't understand them half of the time. He could be feeling warm inside yet have no idea if it was okay for him to feel like this or if that warmth was something to fear. Right now though, Megumi knew exactly how he felt. How could he not? The person who he had felt a strong yet a confusing connection since their first encounter had just been executed. He was feeling empty, regret and also he felt alone.

When Gojo had brought some of Yuuji's belongings all he could do was cry. The lingering smell of what had once brought him comfort now brought him to tears. Gojo who was there could only pat the young one's back knowing that bitter feeling after loosing someone you love all too well, it was all unfair.

After some time, he brought himself to get up and finally reach slowly to that box with silly items and clothing that he remembered perfectly on Yuuji. The same clothes that they had hung out in, the same ones when he had asked Gojo to not execute him when he turned into sukuna's vessel. He wondered if he had stopped Yuuji from eating the finger if perhaps he would still be here... would they still have been close? Well it's a bit too late for him to question that.

After some tears and soft smiles and going through the box, he found a letter at the bottom with his name neatly written on it. His heart speed up as his hand's shakily got it and he softly brought it to his chest. What would this letter contain? Was this his final words to him? Did he resent him for not saving him to the last moment? No, Yuuji was too kind and he knew that... he knew that yet part of him was scared of seeing what the letter contained.

He held his breath as he slowly opened the letter and carefully took out the paper that was inside, as if it was glass or the most expensive item known. He closed his eyes and tried to calm his heart, finally he opened his eyes and began to read.

"To my dear Megumi,

As I write this, Gojo is standing at my side.
He knows this is a love letter but like the guy he is, he’s still sneaking glances and adding his opinion even with his signature blindfold on. Honestly, i'm more amazed on how he knows exactly what i'm writing, even with his blindfold secure on his head.

That said, he did give me his word that he’d deliver this letter to you. He says this much he owes me from this being a "tragic love ending" similar to his.

Well similar or not, this isn't how I really wanted things to end and I’m sorry about that. I never would have imagined myself actually choosing to sacrifice myself, over you... even less falling so hard for you and not confessing properly.

I know you said you'd kill me if I ever die again but I guess gojo beat you to it, bummer right?

I’m gonna be executed soon, but I’ll die without regrets, just like grandpa had asked… Or at least that’s what I’d like to say. Truth is, I do have one.

I never got to confess to you…
Live long, will ya?

With love,
Itadori."

"Yuuji.." he cried out as he finished the letter. He not only lost a friend but the person who he loved most and held close to his heart. He finally realized that the reason he was also feeling like this was because it was his first love. He had lost someone who equally loved him and he had that taken away from him.

"Please... Yuuji please come back..." Megumi begged silently in his room all alone as his cries began to get louder and he felt as his heart was being torn apart. He wondered why this had to happen to him, why couldn't he just live happily with the person who he loved and that loved him equally? Why did life have to take away his happiness from him? All he could do is cry as he remembered that smile of the pink haired boy that had once brought him comfort.
