Work Text:

Jolyne bites on her cheap green nail polish nervously, feet thumping against tiled prison floor, staring at the blue phone nervously.

For the past two weeks, her life has been absolute hell, getting worse and worse everyday.

The thing that started off this gain of events was returning home to Dad, a few days after what happened with Romeo.

Seeing the police at her front door made her freeze as if she was pushed into cold water, not believing the reality she was in. The cuffs cut into her skin, making them a bright red as they slammed her against the cop car, reading her rights.

The worst part was Dad.

She’s never seen him so angry .

So desperate

His voice boomed throughout the entire neighborhood, voice trembling with anger as he shouted at them what the hell was going on and to let go of her, screaming at him that she did nothing wrong. His voice was scratchy at the end, but his eyes held all the emotions in them, making all of the officers shrink into themself whenever he screamed at them. When they had pulled her away, Dad reached out to her as one of the cops stopped him, pushing him back inside their home.

He almost lost his mind, fist ready to punch him, arm in the air.

Jolyne watched this horrified, eyes as wide as dinner plates. Even with half her face smashed up against the hood of the car, she still was able to talk to him.

“No, Dad! Don’t!” Jolyne yelled at him, knowing things would get worse if he punched the cop, him ending up in jail just like her. He stopped instantly at her voice, staring at her intently. She mustered up a wide smile, one she knows will calm him. “I’ll be okay.”

It’s what causes Dad to back away, as the cop threw him off giving him a dirty look, which he threw back in return. Dad couldn’t do anything as she was driven away, the thing that haunted her the most was his defeated eyes, following her all the way until they turned around the corner, no one seeing him.

That’s when she broke, silently crying in the back seat of the car, wondering what the fuck is going on.

(It was Dio, of course, but she only learned that later.)

Her trial was bad, very bad

19 years was the sentence she was not expecting, her entire body filling with dread when hearing it.

That’s her almost half her life. Her entire twenties and thirties, gone

It’s the same thing Dad screamed about, once again, almost getting into a fight with the cop (and even the judge surprisingly).

She threw him a smile again, telling him quietly that everything would be okay, when it wasn’t, as she let a tear out, knowing everything died right in front of her on that day.

The only good thing was she finally got her stand, after years without one.

(Jolyne named it Stone Free, not only because of the song, because she was going to get the fuck out of her as soon as she can.)

It was part of the care package Dad scrambled to put together, noticeably by the wobbly writing of the letter he sent her, bringing her to tears when reading it. It included various of her favorite things; blankets, a sketchbook, and he was even able to sneak in her DS somehow, laughing slightly at it when seeing it. The most precious gift to her was a photo of her and Dad together, celebrating her graduation day at Disney and all of her friends.

Though the most important thing was the golden amulet.

Jolyne picked it up carefully, swiping open the shiny object, revealing the two pieces inside it.

The first thing she saw was a picture of her Mom, Alessandra and Dad, them being with each other as they both smiled fondly.

The second thing made her eye’s bugle.

Underneath the photo was a piece of the stand arrow, waiting for her to pierce her finger.

It was as if she was in a daze as her finger glazed over it, letting herself willingly cut open her finger. It hurt like absolutely l, making her howl in the prison room. The hole only lasted a minute before it went away, making it feel like it wasn’t there at all.

Three hours later, Stone Free appeared, now finally her partner along with her.

It’s also when trouble started brewing for her.

Two days into her prison sentence, she was attacked by her first stand user of the prison, Gwess. She was a real pain in the ass, her stand being that she can shrink and put her inside a dead rat's body (which was fucking disgusting), but she got her good, making sure that she never crosses her again.

Even with all this shit, there was some good.

Stone Free was one, but the others were the phone calls with Dad.

He called everyday, checking on her and making sure everything was alright. It always made her smile hearing his voice, her only connection to what is happening out in the real world and as well as that fact she missed him a lot. (It hurt her, because she knows how alone he is, without her in the house. It’s been the two of them for so long that it feels unnatural that one of them is not there, so it makes her heart more for him, just wanting to give a hug just so he knows she’s there.) It was the most she ever heard him say “I love you,” making her heart squeeze in affection every time he heard. The women behind her always complained about how long she was taking, but once her reputation started making rounds, they backed off, knowing not to mess with Jolyne Kujo.

(She was a Kujo, for god’s sake, they were known to get into fights, but they were also known for the way they never backed down.

It’s good they finally learned that she wasn’t the innocent little girl that they thought they were.)

Though that is why is tapping her foot quickly, nervousness building up inside her gut.

Dad hasn’t called yet.

And he never misses a call with her.

Though, it makes her think about their previous conversation, something sticking out to her like a sore thumb.

“No one’s hurt you right?” Dad asked her, voice soft and laced with worry.

“No,” Jolyne lied, the battle with Gwess appearing in her head. “No one, Dad.”

“Good, thank God. That means things will be easier to explain.”

“Huh? What does fighting have to do with explaining shit, Dad?”

“It does. It’s quite an important part of your entire prison sentence.”

“What?!” Jolyne shouts too loudly into the phone, it creaking slightly from how hard she was gripping onto the phone. “How?!”

“I’ll explain it tomorrow.”

“Tomorrow?”

“Yes, and—fuck, your time’s almost up right?”

“No, it’s not!” Jolyne lied again, bringing the phone closer to her. “We have a couple more minutes left!”

“Nice try, but I know how long each of these calls last,” Dad answered with ease, destroying her lie easily. “But tomorrow, I’ll tell you, but I love you, butterfly.”

Jolyne softens at that, smiling brightly.

“I love you too, Dad.”

Then, the phone call ended quickly, without another word from Dad yesterday or today.

The taste of nail polish became too much for her, causing her to move down to grab her spoon playing with her crappy food, watching the mashed potatoes move slightly. Eventually she began playing with most of her food, watching as the pork and green beans slid around. She’s so lost in her thoughts that she misses the way one of the guards came up to her, hitting her fingers.

Jolyne groans in pain, cradling her fingers, throwing the guard a dirty glare.

“What the fuck!”

“Welcome back to reality,” the guard says to her, smacking he bapton in his hand. “I’ve come to you today because you have a visitor.”

She lets out a small gasp as her eyes become wide, staring at him with disbelief.

“A visitor?”

“Yeah,” he tells her, nonchalantly. “And I’m going to take you to the visiting room right n—”

“Yes, please!” Jolyne answers, instantly sitting up, chair falling behind her. “Take me now!”

“Hey! Don’t interrupt me! But, fine let’s go and give me your hands,” the guard tells her, raising up the metal cuffs.

Jolyne huffs indignantly, but brings up her hands, looking off to the side. The guard places them onto her, making sure they are extra tight, making her groan slightly from it. With one last smack against her back, they walk out of the lunch room and down a grey hallway, the one she knows that will lead them down to the visitor room. (The scariest part of the entire fucking trip was when that kid came up to her, telling her not to go see the visitor there, it freaked her out so much that she stopped in her tracks, wishing that she didn’t go. It was just the thought of her favorite Pierson in the world being there that made her persist.) Jolyne hopes the guard doesn’t notice, but she’s walking a little faster, hoping that the visitor must be who she thinks is. They make a turn around a corner and right in front of her is the door to the visitor room, the guard stopping right in front of it.

“Don’t do anything now, Jolyne.”

“Why would I do that?”

“You’ve caused quite a mess these past couple of days, I heard.”

“Open the fucking door,” Jolyne growled quietly, deadly enough to where the guard got the message.

He opened it quickly, a little bit of sweat falling down his face. She throws him one deadpanned look before stepping inside, not even waiting for the guard to come in. He grumbles slightly to himself, but follows in, making sure this time that he is in the lead. Jolyne ignores his presence until he starts telling her the rules of when a prisoner comes.

“Remember, no talking in a different language, no exchanging of gifts and we will pat you down when you come back, same with the visitor—”

“Yeah, yeah. I get it,” came her snarky reply, fed up with them constantly having to explain this.

She didn’t care to see what the guard looked like and just sat down at one of the wooden tables, waiting for the guard to come over and unlock her handcuffs. She hears the click of the lock and the guard took off the thing from her wrists, he attached them to the side of his belt. Jolyne twists her wrists around and cradles them, to help make them feel better after not owing them for so long, the red marks being the newest addition on her hands.

Unfortunately, he starts speaking again.

“Now, remember FE40536, you can’t—”

“I fucking know what I can or can’t do. Can you leave now?” Jolyne growls again, while making one hand into a fist and the other flat against the table.

The guard has a stoic face on him, not showing what he truly felt, making her gulp, scared for what might come next. In a swift motion, he took out his panton and slammed it across Jolyne’s knuckles again. Just like before, she whimpers in pain and quickly massages the area where she was hit. The mark was fresh and a bright red, there must’ve been a lot of force used in order to create that and even more so based on the pain she was experiencing. It makes her snarl at him, feeling a certain hatred for him.

The guard got into Jolyne’s face, pissing her off even more

“Don’t talk to me like that again. Do you understand, FE40536?”

Jolyne knew she couldn’t do anything, so she nodded solemnly.

The guard picks his head up and straightens his back. He begins walking towards the hallway, until he stops by where the door is. He throws one last glance back at her.

“You have 45 minutes. I will stay here until you leave or your time is up, alright?”

Jolyne nods once more.

The guard turns back and her chest feels lighter already, glad that he was gone.

Jolyne rubs at her hand one more time before she lifts her head up to see who the visitor was. Her eyes scan at who was standing in the back and when she notices who it was, her left hand stills in the palm of her right one. She could see it as clear as day, the purple coat with the green star adorning it on the back, the gold chain hanging off it, and those horrible yellow and black snakeskin pants she told her father not to buy.

A small smile appears on her face, all tension melted away and it shows the true relief she feels.

A few tears sting her eyes.

It is—

“Dad?” Jolyne asks breathlessly, so incredibly happy to see him there.

The best thing she has seen all day was Dad’s smile, wide when seeing her.

“Hey, butterfly.”

If it weren’t for the table between and the guard right outside, she would have given Dad a huge bear hug, but instead excited smiles were exchanged between the two, both satisfied to be in each other’s presence.

Dad went toward the table she was seated at and stopped at the chair. He pulls back the wooden chair, puts his rich purple coat behind him, and sits down. He brings his arms up to the table, crossing his arms like it was just any old dinner between them. His smile never goes away though.

“I’m so happy to see you again, Jolyne,” Dad whispers out, sounding softer than she has ever heard it in her life. Though, the only problem was that it sounded too deep for him, too heavy.

Too tired

Jolyne doesn’t respond to his heart warming comment as instead looks over his appearance, from his arms to his face. There’s dark and deep bags under his eyes as if he hasn’t gotten any sleep in these past few weeks, eyes red from it. His clothes are unkempt as if he hasn’t changed them in a day or two. His hair is just as unkempt, little bits of hair sticking out in weird places.

The more she looks at him, the more her heart breaks for him.

Jolyne didn’t mean to cause him all this distress, she didn’t mean for all of this to happen.

When she’s done observing him, her shoulders slump down and her arm sinks deeper into the table. Her eyebrows scrunch up and a sad frown forms on her face. When Dad looks at her, a guilty expression forms on his face, gripping onto his arms tighter,

“I am too, Dad” Jolyne starts off, voice tiny and then with her hand, points at his appearance. “But, did you stay up all night for me? Did you get any sleep?”

He shakes his head, waving his hand around.

“Don’t worry about it,” Dad responds calmly, mustering up another smile to help quell her worries.

It didn’t, only making her guilt increase tenfold.

The guilt on her face returns back, now more visible. She’s clenching her teeth now, smearing her neon green lipstick onto them. She breaks eye contact with him, looking at the table with a burning gaze.

Dad’s shifts uncomfortably, grabbing onto her hand, squeezing it tightly.

“Jolyne, I’m fine. I’ve function on little sleep before.”

“That’s not good, Dad!” Jolyne shuts, jumping up from the seat. The guard throws her a dirty look, but he instantly shrinks into himself when she sees the look she gives him. She turns back to Dad, desperation in her eyes. “You need sleep! You didn’t have to stay up all night for me!”

“You're more important than sleep, Jolyne.”

“And you are just as important, Dad! God,” Jolyne croaks out as she sinks back into the chair, hands covering her face. “I’ve created such a disaster for you.”

Dad speaks instantly at that, grabbing onto both of her hands now. She looks up at him, even with her green bangs covering some of her eyes, she can see his sorrow in them, clearly upset at her statement.

“It’s not, none of it is your fault.”

“Then, why am I here,” Jolyne seethes out, the trail coming into her brain again, the anger of everything resurfacing.

Dad swallows at that, taking a deep breath before he answers, staring right at her. He lets go of her hands, them trying into tightly clenched fists

“That’s why I am here today.”

“Huh?”

“Jolyne, did you use that amulet that I sent you?” Dad asks, putting his hand onto his arm.

She nods very quickly, not sure where this is going,

“Yeah! It hurt like a bitch,” Jolyne starts saying, though she can see Dad’s heated glare. Jolyne rolls her eyes, but that couldn’t stop her from smiling, still on that cursing stick huh?. “I’m 19, I can curse, but that is not the point. I finally have a stand!”

She can feel Stone Free’s excitement through her, wanting to make herself known to Dad. Her smile becomes wider, from it. Though she can come out later.

Relief floods Dad’s face, his face becoming softer already. With a sigh, a small smile forms on his face as his mouth opens again.

(Though, she can see the lingering fear in his eyes, making them appear duller already. Knots form in her stomach from doing so.)

“Okay, good. What can it do?”

Jolyne gives him a wide toothy smile, pleased that she wants to know more about her stand. She raises her hand up, her pointer finger sticking up the most.

“Look!”

Her hand begins to break apart and where skin used to be was now replaced by blue string, a sight she has become used to now. Small, blue, thin pieces of string. It followed all around her and with a simple command from her, it went across the small and wrapped around his finger, squeezing onto it tightly. Dad lifts his pinky finger up and observes it, moving it back and forth, brow raised with amusement.

“String, huh?” Dad says after watching the little demonstration she did for him, she couldn’t help but notice the teasing hint in his voice.

“Yes, Dad, but not everything is going to be a macho like your stand.”

Dad blinks as he puts his hand on his heart.

“Don’t hurt Star’s feelings.”

Dad !’

They both chuckle at that, making them momentarily forget about where they were. It felt as if all the prison walls were melting away, making her believe that they were in their kitchen, comforting orange walls wrapping around her as she teases Dad the entire dinner, rolling his eyes constantly.

Though what snaps her back into reality is Stone Free’s tugging in her mind, almost being released without her command.

No better time to show her now since Dad is asking about her,

“Oh! Do you want to see what she looks like!” Jolyne asks enthusiastically, eyes filled with happiness.

Dad nods.

Stone Free practically shots out of her, happy to see her family.

Dad stares at her open and down, taking in everything he sees.

It’s a bright blue-teal stand with a lanky figure. She’s covered with circular pellets and metal plating on her arms, shoulders, neck, and the side of her head, making them the most bulky thing there. She even had sunglasses over her eyes, green ones to be exact.

Jolyne this it’s a cool stand, if she does say so herself, It represented her perfectly

Star must have thought the same way because of how he practically launched out of Dad like a cannonball. After looking at her for all of two seconds, he wraps Stone Free in a big hug and a huge goofy grin on his face, expressing his excitement to finally see his daughter’s stand. Stone Free giggles from that, but also gives him a hug.

Jolyne’s smile became even bigger from that.

“Aww Star! You did miss me!”

Dad rolls his eyes at that, knowing the obvious to that. She knows Star is a manifestation of his soul, so of course he did, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. His little pat on her head told her everything.

Even with the entire presentation, Dad still looks at her with a perplexed expression, now just staring at the stand. Jolyne’s brain racks at that, wondering, what did she miss?

Then, it hits her.

Oh , her name.

“If you are wondering, her name is Stone Free.”

“Where did you get Stone Free from?” Dad asks because she can tell his curiosity was killing him.

“I came up with it all on my own!” Jolyne proudly exclaimed while puffing up her chest, knowing half of it was true.

Dad’s brow raises slowly, as if he didn’t believe her. raised. Jolyne threw him an annoyed glance.

“I’m being serious.”

Dad narrows his eyes and raises both his brows, to only show his disbelief more. She lets out another annoyed huff.

“So…,” Jolyne starts out slowly, a nervous smile appearing on her face. She really didn’t want to reveal to Dad she was lying to him, but she guesses that’s out the window now. She scratches at her cheek. “Do you remember the phone call you made to me the other day?”

“You mean yesterday?” Dad deadpans to her.

She gulps.

“Yeah, that one….do you remember when you asked me if anyone has hurt me?”

“Yes,” Dad answers sternly. His grip on his arm tightens, indicating that he’s gotten where this conversation is going. The fear is more present in his eyes now.

“Well…maybe, we sort of, you know—-yeah, I got into a fight with a stand user,” Jolyne blurts out, knowing she couldn’t delay the envidentable. Dad’s shout hurt her ears a little.

Jolyne! ”

“Okay, listen !” Jolyne tries to defend herself, waving her hands rapidly. “I wasn’t too badly hurt and it’s important to the story!”

“You should have told me!” Dad yells at her, her flinching from it ever so slightly. Dad cradles his head in his hands, looking the worst she has ever seen him. “Your well-being is important ! And—God… fuck , this should have never happened to you.”

“Dad..,,” Jolyne whispers to him as she holds his hand again, giving him the same comforting smile she did when she was first arrested. “I’m okay, you taught me how to fight, so I was bound to win anyways. But, do you want to hear about it?”

“Sure,” Dad answers slowly, clearly not over the fact she got into a stand fight. She knows Dad is feeling protective of her right now, but she can handle things like this (and handle things she did .) and with her stand, prison might be a little easier with it.

Though she starts explaining, waving her hand to the side.

“So, the user’s name is Gwess and apparently she got her hands on the amulet you sent me—”

“Wait, how did she get that?” Jotaro asks, panic in his voice, eyes getting as round as baseballs.

This part she wasn’t looking forward to explaining.

Jolyne’s checks begin to flush pink and an embarrassed smile forms on her face. She adverts his eyes.

“So, I might have dropped it when getting off the prison bus.”

Dad blinks at her rapidly, no words coming out of his mouth as he just stares at her with widened eyes. Eventually, he finds the will to speak again, the next few words that come out of his mouth, he tries his best to keep his voice steady, but fails miserably.

“Did you get it—”

Jolyne lifts her hand up, knowing what he is about to ask. Dad shuts his mouth.

“I am getting there, Dad ,” Jolyne interrupts and rolls her eyes. She continues right after. “As I was saying, she got her hands on it and she touched that piece of armor and got a stand. It’s name is Goo-Goo-Dolls and it causes people to shrink and then she stuffed me inside a….dead rat body.”

He cringes right alongside her, his entire body shivering at the notion. He has a disgusted look on his face and blanches silently to himself. He shakes his head miserably when he starts speaking again.

“What the fuck is wrong with people?”

“You mean stand users, right?” Jolyne adds on with a laugh, a mischievous glint in her eye. Dad jolts his head, clearly, still disturbed by what Gwess did, for more time before he asks the burning question.

“How did this… event lead to you naming your stand?”

Jolyne smiles proudly now, the same one she had before when he asked this question.

“So, after making me do her dirty work as a rat and almost getting me in trouble for uh, trying to do some bad stuff , Goo-Goo-Dolls went after me and started trying to rip me apart. After she was cocky enough and getting on my fucking nerves about some stupid shit I was to angry to remember, I came up with Stone Free.”

Dad snorts.

“You beat the shit out of her?” A question she would ask him often after going against a stand user, it made her chuckle.

“Abso-fucking-ley. She now fears me, and,” she begins and reaches into the side of her pants and pulls out the amulet, the gold reflecting into the light. “I got the amulet back!”

Dad huffs at that, a smile appearing on his face again.

“Good.”

Though, Dad still had one question for her.

“Alright, but what does she do?”

“She can turn me into string as you saw before. So with this, my entire body is basically all string and I can even untangle my body to be whatever I want and just this morning, I learned that my strings can help stitch up my wound.”

“Stitch your wounds? You mean, you can heal like Giorno’s and Josuke’s stands?”

“Yeah, I discovered that with the battle of Gwess.”

Dad ponders this with a curious look before he hums, shoving his hand into his pocket, about to pull something out. Before he does that, this talk of stand users made her remember one more strange thing.

“There was something else that happened,” Jolyne says strangely, as if she wasn’t sure of herself. The kid’s eyes were the thing that made her the most unease, the fear shining so brightly that it hurt to even look at. Dad holts in his track, arm stilling in his jacket. Dad cocks his head to the side.

“What?”

“Dad, there was this kid, I don’t know his name either, who came up to me out of a garbage pail and told me not to come here for some reason. Then, right after that, he disappeared. But, it just sounded…. fishy ,” Jolyne said while looking off to the side. She brought up her finger and started chewing on her green nail nervously, slowly realizing this is becoming a habit.

Dad’s entire face becomes a shade lighter, eyes not seeming to look at her. It was as if he was lost in thought, but for the worst possible reasons, as if he knew.

And it scared the living shit out of her.

“Dad? What did the kid mean?”

Dad doesn’t respond, the silence suffocating her. Her lungs grew tight, heart pounding rapidly in her chest.

“Dad? What’s going on—”

“You’ve been framed,” Dad responds, quickly avoiding answering the question that’s making her dizzy.

But it also makes everything in her brain stop, halting at the new information she was just given

Jolyne feels as if she was back at the start of all of this, dropped into cold water with no way of it. She blinks a couple times and shakes her head quickly, trying to eat rid of the cold dread building up inside her. She sits up straighter in her chair.

“What?”

“You’ve been framed, Jolyne,” Dad says again to finally discuss what he has been meaning to do since he got here, the phone call all making sense now.

She blinks again and her mouth hangs open, her brain finally kicking up back into gear. The emotions turned all the way up, rage burning her skin.

“What? How and why?!” She shouts into the phone, demanding answers. She’s not taking this lightly and she’s just about ready to punch hole in a wall.

From Dad’s hardened face, she knows Dad isn’t taking this well.

He takes a deep breath and finally pulls out the thing he first wanted to show here. There, she sees a picture of a blind man with clear eyes and white hair. He places the photo onto the table. Jolyne leans forwards and looks at him with a confused expression, wondering how he has anything to do with her being framed. He points at his face, somewhere where his mouth was.

“This man was the one who set up the car accident and sent you to prison.”

So he’s the fuck that took away half her life, huh?

Jolyne looks at him with widened eyes, the raging growing inside her. She almost saw red when hearing that, him becoming the first person she wished she was able to beat up, but sadly Gwess took that place.

But, she’ll get him soon.

“His name is JohngallI A and along with the lawyer and your boyfriend, Romeo,” Dad says with malice in his voice, noting the way it seemed most targeted at her ex-boyfriend. She doesn’t blame him because she has the same malice towards him, knowing how she was used by him. Though hatred grew even more for him when knowing he was part of this scheme.  “is the reason you are at Green Street Dolphin.”

A scowl appears on Jolyne’s face and she clenches her teeth harshly, her jaw aching from it. Her hands turn into fists, knowing any tighter it might bleed. Her eyebrows are knitted together, knowing this rage was becoming hard to control.

And Stone Free knows that.

Stone Free materializes behind her, running off to where the guard was standing. She grabs at his shirts, feeling the cloth on her hands. He makes a choking sound and he raises his hand, about to press an alarm, only for Stone Free to slam him against the wall. There was a sickening sound made and the guard fell down the floor. She kept punching his stomach, until she heard the sound of a rib crack. Stone Free then goes after his leg, kicking his shin until bruises appear.

She’s only aware that Dad saw this when he looks away.

But Dad has to know, she has to release her emotions someone

Stone Free stops when her user lets out a heavy breath, skin close to breaking.

What. Did. He. Do ,” Jolyne growls each word, each more coming out angrier than the next. Dad looks at the photo again.

“Johngalli A was a loyal follower to,” Dad stopped his voice getting smaller at the end, staring into space while letting out a shaky breath, making her forget about her rage as concern overcame her, she reached out for his hand, rubbing it. She gives me a smile, hoping that it might make him a little better. When seeing this, Dad has the confidence to begin again. “Dio. He wanted to get revenge on our family by putting you in prison, Jojo. He was able to convince some thugs to throw the hitchhiker in front of the car you and Romeo were driving in. He was even able to get your lawyer to trick you into thinking he would help into being not guilty. He did all of this knowing how much it would hurt me.”

God, that shitty little vampire still is able to get them from the dead, huh?

(She wishes to find him in Hell and give him a good beating, one that makes him fear her just as much as Dad as him and finally tell him, with a stern voice, “leave my family alone.”)

Jolyne blinks in shock and is silent, her ears ringing from all of this, it being too overwhelming for her. The rage built back up inside her, readying to explode like a volcano.

She reached her boiling point at the end of his sentence.

A scream tore out her throat, one that made her vocal chords cry in protest. Dad visibly flinches at this, the scream hurting his ears. Jolyne slams her fists on the table.

“This is fucking bullshit !” Jolyne yells, standing up from her chair. It falls behind her, making a loud noise. “You’re telling me, this, all of this , was to get back at you? You ? For some the shit you did 23 years ago?! Fuck !”

Why does it always have to be him?

Her yelling continues as she slumps back into her seat, tears now flowing freely down her face.

“Why the fuck won’t his followers leave us alone.

She doesn’t even have to know the guilty look on Dad’s face, it growing inside his chest, becoming as big as a boulder. Jolyne doesn’t wish to see that on his face, so she lets her finger unwind, wrapping it around his hand, showing him that she knows none of this is his fault. He seems to find that comforting, but does something she has been missing for weeks

With the guard being knocked out, Dad gets up to hug her, wrapping her up to where she doesn’t have to see the prison walls anymore. She lays her head against his chest, happy to do this again. She sobs at everything; from prison, Romeo, and Dio fucking up their lives again, breaking the idea that they were free from him. Having a red face and eyes, Jolyne wipes that last of her tears, then drying up quickly. As much as the rage overtook her, there was also the side of her that looked at the positive, thinking of ways to turn this all around.

With this new information, they probably can get a lawyer from the Speedwagon Foundation now and get a retrial. They can probably even show her innocence now! She lifts her head up to look at Dad, a hopeful smile on her face.

“Maybe we can get a new lawyer now, Dad,” Jolyne begins her ramble, fingers going up with all the new ideas she has. “We can probably tell them about all of this, show them the evidence and get a new trial—”

“Fuck that,” Dad growls out, vemon seeping out of his voice. A nasty scowl on his face. “We’re not going to do that again.”

Jolyne blinks at his statement, not understanding what he means or implying.

“Dad, what do you mean?”

“Jolyne, we’re going to ignore the law today,” Dad says as if it was the calmest thing ever, as if they weren’t about to break many different laws.

Jolyne’s eyes widen at that, but as shocked and surprised as she is, she can’t help but feel a spark of rebellion spark in her, mind pleased at what she is hearing.

“What the fuck are you talking about, Dad?” Jolyne asks because she has to sound rationale for a minute and not give into the desire Dad is presenting out into the open, but that will all change the moment speaks those words out, obviously going him in their little escape.

Dad gives her a serious look, eyes hard like steel, but she see that same spark of rebellion she is feeling in them.

“Jolyne, I’m going to break you out.”

Jolyne smiles mischievously, one that is similar to the Cheshire Cat. Her eyes sparkle with that same feeling.

“I’m in.”
