Chapter Text
There was a knock on the door of the loft.
"There's someone at the door, Magnus, will call you back," Alec said into his phone and hung up. Magnus had gone to Sweden for a client and would only be back tomorrow morning, unfortunately. Magnus had managed to snag some free time and had rung Alec.
Alec walked up to the door and opened it, finding his sister.
"Hey, big brother," Izzy said, strolling into the loft as if it were her own.
"Hiya, Iz," Alec greeted his sister, "What's up?"
"I brought you some cake," Izzy said delightedly and Alec tried to stuff his fear down.
"Why?" Alec questioned, silently wondering whether Izzy was trying to kill him with her cooking skills.
"Clary and I got bored so we decided to bake," Izzy answered and threw herself onto the couch. There was a beep on Alec's phone. Alec pulled his phone out and found that it was a text from Jace.
J: Cake is okay. Not poison. Clary just forced some into me. It was fine.
A: Oh thank God for that 😂
J: Yup. Enjoy eating cake.
A: Will do.
Alec pocketed his phone and sat down beside his sister who eagerly handed him a circular box. It contained half a cake; Alec presumed the other half was at the Institute or in his parabatai's stomach.
"Thanks, Izzy," Alec said and Izzy smiled. And then there was another knock on the door. Alec opened it and behind the door was Simon.
"Well hello, aren't you unexpected?" Alec said, not too rudely, "Are Jace and Clary here as well?"
"No, I'm just here to pick up Izzy; we're going on a walk," Simon explained and Alec nodded. Izzy walked up behind Alec, gave him a quick hug and walked out of the loft hand in hand with Simon. That just made Alec miss Magnus. And as if reading his thoughts, Alec's phone went off, showing the caller ID as Magnus. Alec excitedly put the phone to his ears.
"Everything okay, honey?" Magnus asked.
"Yep, Izzy just brought over some cake," Alec said.
"Do not eat. Dispose of it carefully." Alec laughed.
"Jace said that it was okay. And besides, Clary helped make it," Alec reassured his boyfriend.
"Very well then. Be careful my archer boy. I have to go now, but call before going to bed?"
"Definitely," Alec confirmed and Magnus hung up. Alec brought out his laptop and went to work on some boring documents, willing for tomorrow to arrive. After finishing with his document, Alec risked a bite of the cake. Miraculously it tasted great, better than anything else Izzy had ever made. Happy with the cake, Alec devoured most of it. Only one piece remained.
Alec was relieved when he finally got into his night clothes and stuffed himself into Magnus' pillow. And like his promise, he called Magnus. Magnus answered second ring.
"That was quick," Alec observed.
"Yeah, got maybe ten more minutes till I need to go," Magnus said.
"Ah okay. Well I'm about to go to sleep."
"I hope you have a good night's sleep," Magnus said sweetly.
"How can I? You are not here," Alec grumbled with a smile.
"Oh darling. I miss you too," Magnus said with great sadness and then added, "How was the cake?"
"It tasted quite brilliant. I saved a piece for you. You can say what you think about it when you get home."
"Alec Lightwood is praising his sister's cooking. Heavens, the world must be ending," Magnus commented.
"No, it is actually quite nice," Alec replied and heard Magnus' soft laugh through the phone.
"Well, honey, I'm going to have to go now, but I simply can't wait to see you pretty face again," Magnus said with great regret.
"Okay, Magnus. I should be home unless there's an urgent mission or something, so see you tomorrow!"
"Yep. Can't wait to taste that cake," Magnus added jokily.
"I'm sure you'll love it."
"Ooh a loyal brother I see."
"Haha very funny," Alec grumbled but his voice was light.
"Right, darling, I really must go. Good night, sweetheart," Magnus said softly.
"Good night, Magnus." And with that Alec hung up and hoped for a good night's sleep so that he'd be ready for his boyfriend tomorrow morning.
