Work Text:
It was back.
That thing of skin and bone was back and it wasn’t going to give up that easily, and Sean knew this. It wasn’t going to leave him alone until it got what it wanted.
He could hear the scraping sounds of its footsteps on the hardwood floor, growing closer and closer as it worked its way around the downstairs of his home. It was looking for him.
“Why me?” He thought to himself. “Why did it choose me?”
It had already taken his family, his friends, his life, and now it wanted him. It was trying to break him, trying to make him give in and do its dirty work.
The horrible sounds of its talons on the carpeted stairs grew louder with every step.
All he wanted to do was scream, he wanted to run for his life but he knew any attempt to get away would be in vain. There was no escaping this time. That disgusting creature had him wrapped around its finger, and there was nothing he could do about it anymore.
He was so close to just opening the door and begging, pleading to be left alone. But this thing wasn’t human. It didn’t feel empathy, and if it could speak, it would have laughed in his face.
It was here.
He could hear the scratching at his bedroom door and the groaning and whispering loud and clear. He was dead meat.
He sat completely still, trying not to make a noise, secretly hoping it would turn around and leave.
But it didn’t.
The whispering was getting so loud he could barely hear himself think. Tears rolled down his cheeks as he silently prayed to something, someone, that he would make it out alive again.
The sound of the door slowly creaking open made him freeze up completely. He tucked his knees towards his chest so hard that it hurt, not that he could pay attention.
He could feel the presence of the hairless creature crawling up next to him, staring him down with its dark, sunken eyes.
He couldn’t make out any words in the whispering, but he knew exactly what it was trying to tell him.
It puts its bony, dead hand on his head in an almost comforting manner. Maybe it would have been a comforting feeling if it had been someone else.
He squeezed his eyes shut as hard as he could, waiting for it to strike, for it to tear him limb from limb, but it didn’t. It just continued to whisper incoherently. It showed him horrible visions. Visions of his friends and family after it had gotten to them, visions of what will happen to him if he doesn’t comply. It was all too overwhelming, and all he wanted to do was break down and cry his eyes out until he couldn’t anymore.
He was its puppet now. All but a shell of what he once was left behind for this vile monster to do what it pleases with him. He didn’t want to give up, he really didn't. He used to think he had a chance to escape, to run away from the thing trying to claw its way into his psyche, but it was too late.
It had won, and there was nothing he could do.
The cold-blooded touch of its long, unkempt claws on his skin made him shiver as it trailed them down his arm and to his tear-soaked face, lifting his chin until they were staring eye to eye.
“I can make you a God.”
Those words were something it had repeated to him over and over again through the whispers. It could make him a God if he only gave himself over to it. He didn't believe it at first, it seemed ridiculous. Someone like him could never be as powerful as a God, even if this thing could make it possible. But the more he thought about it, Gods are invincible beings, right? If he just gave in, nothing could hurt him anymore. He could finally be free of whatever curse was put upon him. The idea of becoming a God was becoming more appealing by the second.
“F-Fine… I'll do it…” His words came out shaky and unsure. “Just… please… don’t hurt me…”
The gangly monster grinned, flashing a set of disgusting, rotten teeth as it did. His response seemed to have pleased it. It slowly released Sean’s cheek from its grip, before crawling out the door from where it had come.
“Is it over now?” He thought to himself, still sitting frozen on his spot on the floor of his now eerily quiet bedroom.
He tried to compose himself, unaware of the storm he had just created by making a deal with the devil.
