the sight of us was fallin'

Summary:

Forgive and forget. That was just how Reki was. However, he couldn't let Adam continue to ignore him...

Work Text:

Reki gets over what Adam did to him in the past, but that doesn't mean he isn't still salty when the other ignores him all the time.

Just for not paying attention to him, Reki always makes sharp quips at the other.

"Is that a gray hair?"

"You got something on your face."

And even, "Your breath stinks."

And without fail Adam always fell for it.

One day, when Reki and Adam are skating down the track, Adam's turned around, taunting Reki, when Reki suddenly shouts, "There's a branch in your way!"

Adam scoffs, knowing exactly what the boy's up to.

"I'm not falling for it this time, Red," he says, refusing to fall for the boy's tricks.

However, this time, Reki hadn't been lying. One second he's gliding down the track, smooth as ever. The next, he's tumbling forward, his board flying out from under his feet.

It doesn't stop when he lands on the ground. Reki had been right behind him going at the same speed. The boy crashes into him rough and sharp, and they go further down the track until the friction from the ground stops them.

Bailing was always sudden, which is what made practice falls so essential to even beginner skaters so they wouldn't land so rough.

I should have looked, he thinks, groaning as he picks his throbbing head up from the ground.

The redhead had landed right on top of him, his head pillowed by the older man's chest.

Adam's surprised the boy doesn't weigh more—he hadn't guessed Reki would be so light. Even so, his surprise doesn't halt his imminent irritation.

"Get off me already," he snarls.

Reki, clearly more disoriented by their fall than Adam, slowly picks his head up. He struggles to find his bearings while Adam tries to wrangle himself out of their position, grateful when he realizes he's not severely injured.

There's only a second of worry for Reki's own injuries when the other finally looks up at him, both of his hands settled on either side of Adam's hips.

And even more suddenly than their bail, Adam's breath is taken away by the sight before him.

Reki's hair is deliciously disheveled, hanging in front of his eyes that seem to burn brighter under the lights of the track. And his lips hang loose, open in shock as he stares back at Adam.

And Reki can't help but stare. He's never been this close to the other skater before. But now that he's here in this position, so close to the other's face, he can see the other's eyes, dark, blood red things that seem to glow behind the darkness of the other's mask. His mouth is dry by the sight and he swallows slowly, catching the way Adam's eyes follow the motion.

"Hey, are you both alright?!" Joe's voice calls out, breaking the moment between the two.

As if time had begun moving again, the two scramble away from each other.

By the time Joe reaches them, the two are far away from each other, looking for their boards.

They can't look each other in the eyes, not after having looked at each other for so long before. Though they refuse to find each other's eyes, they're both thinking the same thing.

He has beautiful eyes.

Notes:

Joe definitely knew what he was doing when he interrupted them... 😏
