Chapter Text

Mitsuya woke up to birds chirping outside. He sat up on the bed and glared at his sleeping boyfriend. He got up and opened the window, feeling a cool breeze come in. He lit up a cigarette and inhaled the toxic smoke.

He sighed when he felt an ache in his lower back. He had woken up in the middle of his husband having intercourse with him last night. What a freaky thing to do while he was unconscious. He turned around and just as he expected, there were printed pictures sitting on top of the dresser. He didn't even bother looking at them, knowing damn well they were just filthy pictures of him naked on the bed. He aggressively pushed them off the dresser, most landing on the floor and some on the bed.

He went back to the window, blowing smoke out as he just kept thinking.

"Isn't it a little early to be up baby?" Daisuke turned to his side, facing mitsuya.

Mitsuya ignored him.

He got up and hugged mitsuya from behind, resting his chin on his shoulder and sneaking his hand around his waist, stealing the cigarette from his fingers, taking a long drag. "What are you thinking about?"

"My shitty life."

"Takashi. We're a happy couple aren't we?"

He didn't say anything.

Daisuke turned him around and pressed him against the open window, kissing him deeply. "You didn't mean what you did and said last night right? We love eachother."

Mitsuya kept his gaze on the floor, not responding.

Daisuke harshly lifted his chin up. "Look at me when I'm talking to you."

"You're toxic daisuke. We could've been a happy couple before you started fucking hitting me, as well as my sister's behind my back. What did you tell them? They tell me everything, so what did you tell them that they wouldn't tell me you secretly hit them?"

Daisuke's facial expression fell into a bored one. "I think you should start taking your pills. You're depressed again." Daisuke stared at him. He pushed himself off and opened a drawer, throwing the antidepressants at mitsuya. Without saying anything, he went into the bathroom, probably getting ready for work.

Mitsuya put the cigarette out and walked into the living room. It was still left in it's horrendous state from last night's events.

He saw the house phone on the floor, next to some shattered plates across the living room, fallen chairs, and the dining table that was flipped upside down. He sighed, not knowing when he was gonna have time to clean all of this up when has to go to work and make breakfast for the girls. He doesn't even know how he's gonna show up to work and come up with lies for his bruises again.

Life was slowly eating him up.

.
.

"No...no please don't do this to me taiju-nii!" Hakkai begged.

"You're meeting her next week and that's last."

"P-please! I don't want to get married I can't!"

"Shut the fuck up! You will get married."

Hakkai started sobbing. "I-I listened and never looked for mitsuya again! I stopped looking at him as you said! And I didn't talk to any other boys! Please! I obeyed you and stopped so please this one thing. Just this one thing!"

"Why!? So you can drown in your stupid delusion for the rest of your life!? Wake the fuck up hakkai! You're an adult now!"

Few Months Before the Wedding

"Brother...please consider calling the wedding off. I can't do it. I can't!" Hakkai breathed hard.

"Hakkai I swear to god, I have a headache so stop being dramatic and leave my fucking room at once." Taiju rubbed at his temple.

Hakkai was terrified. This was serious, a whole wedding, where everyone see's you with your partner who you're gonna spend the rest of your life with. He can't do it.

"Why are you forcing me to do this!?" Hakkai yelled.

Taiju just sighed, tired of telling hakkai he needs to set his life straight.

"I don't want to do this. I- taka-chan is the only-"

Taiju immediately stood up and gave hakkai a hard fucking slap.

"ARE YOU FUCKING WITH ME!?" He yelled, shaking hakkai back and forth as if trying to wake him up. "Your wedding is in fucking three months and you're still thinking of that fuck? You're still trying to be a faggot!?" Taiju slapped him up. "You're getting married hakkai! Why are you still thinking of that bitch!?"

Hakkai just cried as taiju continuesly yelled at him.

The honeymoon

"I love you.." mitsuya who was under him said.

"Me too." Hakkai kissed him.

Hakkai jolted awake, panting. He breathed hard, disturbed by the dream he just had. Those were all events that took place over the months, but what bothered him most was the last setting. It's like his mind is not letting him forget about that, filling him with guilt everytime he looks at Yuki, everytime he looks at Ai. It's just all so wrong.

"Hey you okay?" He heard Ai whisper to him from her side of the bed, not being able to see her features in the dark room at 3 am.

"Yeah I'm fine. Just a bad dream." Hakkai said before trying to sleep again.

He couldn't.

Next morning

"I found a daycare centre for Yuki." Taiju said.

Hakkai and Ai were going out of town for a few weeks and didn't want to bring Yuki as this trip was way too far and long, and he was still very young. So they needed to find a place where he could be watched when yuzuha and taiju had to go to work, and the kids go to school.

"Great! Give me their address then, I'll visit later in the day." Ai said.

And a few hours later, on her her way home, Ai stopped by the centre. The sound of jingles could be heard after she opened the door.

"Hello, may I help you?" The person watching the counter said. "It's after hours so no kids are here anymore..or are you here for registration?" The striking man asked.

Ai read the name off his name tag.

Mitsuya Takashi. What a nice looking guy.

"Yes. I have a five month old baby."

"Ok sure, please just write your information on this paper and the hours he will stay here."

Ai nodded, writing everything on the paper.

"Since you're doing long-term, would you like a membership? It has more benefits than staying on the standard."

"Oh how so?"

"Well, standard means you drop the kid off and pick him up any day and time you choose. But with long-term registrations like yours, it's better to go for the membership. You'll be able to collect points, get discounts, and will get registered in the loyal customers book, which comes with benefits in the future, such as bringing a plus one with your kid for free." Mitsuya looked at her.

"Uh..sure I'll go for that then."

"Great, just sign on the paper." Mitsuya handed her another one. "I'll schedule you at three pm tomorrow for confirmation. Which means you have to come here and sign a few papers after giving us some copies. Please bring a birth certificate of your baby, his identification card, residential address, and family book. How does that sound?"

"Yeah sure."

"Great. We'll be sending you an email of all that stuff so you don't forget anything."

Ai nodded.

"Any questions?"

"Yes, can I take a look around?"

"Of course. Please follow me." Mitsuya left the reception space and walked through the doors next to it.

"This is the main entrance, so you don't drop off the kids from here, there's a separate section for that, which is right here, the side of the building."

Ai nodded.

"All kids are dropped off here and taken to their respective classes based on age. I look after infants on Mondays, tuesdays, and wednesdays, and then thursdays and fridays I look after toddlers between the ages of three to five. So your son will be in my class most of the time."

"Alright. Then nice to meet you, I hope you take good care of my son!" Ai smiled.

"You got it." Mitsuya smiled back.

"Are you usually the only one here?"

"Ah, I'm the head of section so I stay after hours to go through everything and close up the centre. So yes, usually it's just me at this time."

"I see. Well I'll be taking my leave now. Thank you for your assistance."

"No problem."

.
.

Mitsuya took his shoes off and made his way into the apartment. Today was a hard day. He was extremely exhausted and just wanted to lay down. But he had to start making dinner for the girls.

Mitsuya stretched out a little and got in the kitchen. He decided to make something simple as he couldn't stay standing for too long.

After finishing up, he turned off the stove and put a lid on top of the pot. The girls took after school lessons so they don't come home early, and daisuke doesn't get off until nighttime today. He quickly took a shower and layed down on the bed.

This was the part he hated. Right when he wants to relax, his mind takes him to his problems. He couldn't stop thinking about yesterday. He couldn't stop thinking about how daisuke was slowly becoming more and more terrifying each passing day.

He sighed, feeling his eyes slowly closing. He didn't mean to take a nap, but it just happened, and he really needed one.

But he woke up to the sound of the door opening after about half an hour.

He walked out of his bedroom and saw his sisters sitting on the couch.

"Welcome back." He greeted them. "Are you hungry yet?"

"Starving!" Both of them said.

Mitsuya chuckled. "I'll set the table."

They all sat down, and mitsuya just watched his sisters eat.

"Aren't you gonna eat brother?" Mana asked.

"No. I already ate a while ago, you go ahead." He lied. In truth, he just didn't have an appetite, but he didn't want to unnecessarily worry his sisters.

Mitsuya took a deep breath. "Please...please tell me if he does anything like that again. You understand right?" Mitsuya hid his face in his hands, not wanting to show the tears in his eyes. "How come none of you told me? Why?"

"We just couldn't.." Mana said.

Mitsuya stood up. He grabbed an ice pack from the freezer and wrapped it in cloth. "Your cheek is starting to swell." He said before gently dabbing it on the side of luna's face.

"It's okay taka-nii."

Mitsuya sniffeled, still gently pressing the cloth to her face. He felt like he failed as a brother. He felt like he didn't do enough to protect his sisters.

"Just stop!" Luna slapped his hand away.

Mitsuya was taken aback. His sister had never acted like this before. "Luna, what's wrong?"

"Stop acting like that."

Mitsuya was genuinely confused. "Like what?"

"Like you're a good person! You're not so stop! I don't want this care, not from you!"

"Excuse me?" Mitsuya frowned.

"You're just- just stop. Stop acting." Luna said before storming off to her room but mitsuya grabbed her arm.

"Why are you talking to me like that?"

"Let go!"

"Not until you tell me why you're acting like this."

"Well you're not my father! So back the fuck off!"

Mitsuya painfully stared at his sister. Now he knew how his mom felt when he had that little outburst in the hospital when he was younger. It feels like shit, like you're not appreciated. "Yes I am." He said after a moment of silence. "I am your brother, your father, and your mother. Since day one."

"Well I don't want one who kills people." She pushed him off.

"What?"

"You almost killed him last night! Are you crazy!?"

"And why the fuck would you care about him!? You care about a sick fuck who beats your brother and slaps you around behind my back?"

"You overreacted! You've always been like this! Going around with gang's and hanging out with bad people doing stupid things!"

"Me a decade ago has nothing to do with thi-"

"Yes it does! I'm sick of you! I would rather live with mom!"

Mitsuya out of shock just chuckled. "Then go..go to the person who doesn't know what her own daughter likes because she hasn't been present her whole childhood. Go ahead then! Leave the one who raised you and go for those who know nothing about you, go. Go with someone who remarried and doesn't care about the wellbeing of her children! Leave!" Mitsuya pushed the plate off the dining table.

The pass code to the door could be heard being typed in.

"Go to your room. Now." He told his sisters. "We're finishing this later."

Luna just stood where she was, fighting the tears in her eyes, before she stormed off to her room.

Mana who was still sat at the table sighed. She didn't want to go back to the room because Mana was having her emotional tantrum there, but she also didn't want to stay in the living room because Daisuke arrived.

"And what are you waiting for?" Mitsuya turned to her.

"My friend is waiting for me downstairs. We planned to meet so we can discuss something."

Mitsuya sighed. "Don't be late."

She nodded before quickly making her way to the door, just as daisuke got his shoes off.

"Where you going?" He asked her.

"To see a friend." She said flatly, quickly sliding in her shoes and going out the door.

Mana decided to take the stairs instead of the elevator to kill more time. She got to the bottom and finally let a breath out. A shaky breath. She made her way to the little playground in front of the complex and sat inside the jungle tower, crying her eyes out.

Sometimes she just needed to get away and be alone for a while. Away from all the yelling and fighting. They had never fought with mitsuya this seriously before. It was a shock to see him go off on luna like that and same for her. But mitsuya never even yelled at them before, so she needed time to process that new change.

"Well what happened here?" Daisuke asked when he saw the mess on the floor.

"You're early."

"Yeah the guys went out for drinks."

"Oh? And you didn't join? What a surprise." Mitsuya said as he started cleaning the floor up.

"Had a headache, just didn't feel like it today." Daisuke set his duffel bag down. "So you didn't tell me what happened."

"It's nothing. I just accidentally dropped the plate."

Without saying anything daisuke headed to their room to wash up and get into comfy clothes. Basically sweats and a random black shirt for him. By the time he was done, mitsuya came to the room.

"You going to bed early tonight?"

"Yeah. Did you have dinner?" Mitsuya asked. It was obvious his mind was elsewhere.

"Yeah. I think I'll just sleep too."

Mitsuya nodded, turning the lights off and getting under the blanket.

Daisuke turned on the ac and slid into bed next to mitsuya, spooning him from behind. "Tell me what's wrong hm?" He whispered, kissing the back of his neck.

Mitsuya's shoulders started shaking. "It's nothing."

Daisuke sighed. "Babe..please tell me what's on your mind."

Mitsuya couldn't stop his tears. "I-I fought with luna...and she said some really hurtful things that are probably true." His voice trembled. "I yelled at her and I feel so bad." He turned so now his face was in daisuke's chest.

"It's ok calm down," Daisuke rubbed his back in a comforting way. "Siblings always fight. You can fix it later ok?"

Mitsuya nodded. He felt disgusted finding comfort in none other than daisuke. Over the years, he hated himself for it, because he would always end up getting comforted by daisuke. It was sickening.

Mitsuya really wanted to get that question out. What happened to us? He really wanted to tell daisuke, We were happy in college. He really wanted to talk about it. But when he had opened the subject before, daisuke always shut it down.

.
.

After a few days mitsuya met up with takemitchy, last time he'd seen him was about 7 months ago. They meet up from time to time to talk.

"How's it going at the daycare?"

"It's bearable." Mitsuya said.

"Are you gonna keep working there?"

"No. I'm about to finish writing my journal, of my ideas. I want to design clothes for kids. I always liked seeing them in their cute outfits so I plan to make a brand. It will be high quality and affordable. I will be sad when I have to leave the daycare, but that's what I'm working towards right now."

"That's really cool mitsuya-san! I'm sure you'll succeed!"

Mitsuya nodded. "Thanks,"

"So..did you guys make up?" Takemitchy asked.

"She won't speak to me," mitsuya said.

"Mitsuya-san, she's seventeen now and is probably going through a lot with her emotions," takemitchy said. "But she's still your sister, and you still have to look out for her, even if your relationship isn't so good with her right now,"

Mitsuya chuckled. "No wonder you were our hero, takemitchy,"

Takemitchy looked down. "You're wrong mitsuya-san, I failed. I couldn't connect the dots earlier, I was too late. I couldn't save anyone and everything has gone to shi-"

"No. You don't realize it, but you really are our hero. Yes everyone is living a shitty life now, but you still prevented the worst from happening. Don't you ever forget that," mitsuya said as he recalled the event that happened over nine years ago, just a year after chifuyu's death.

"Mitsuya-san, do you regret some things?" Takemitchy asked out of pure loneliness.

"Yeah, I regret a lot of things too." Mitsuya lit up a cigarette, taking a long drag.

"I broke up with hina." Takemitchy revealed.

"Huh? When?" Mitsuya stared at him, stunned.

"A few months ago. We kept fighting because I was being selfish, drowning in my own guilt and regret over everything that happened, I unintentionally made her live a miserable life with me, so I broke up with her. I told her we're no good anymore, and I left." Takemitchy looked down.

Mitsuya sighed. "You idiot. You breaking up with her probably hurt her more,"

"I don't know what to do anymore."

"You should fix yourself up. It doesn't suit you. Shave that stubble, tidy that mess on your head, and work towards a different mindset. The past already happened and it's time you let it go takemitchy. I regret doing the things I did too, but I've come to terms with it, so start healing. Allow yourself to heal, because you know you want to, don't push it away,"

Takemitchy turned around so his back was facing mitsuya and wiped at his eyes.

Mitsuya smiled. "I can already see you've changed a little." He stood up, "Well, see you some other time." Mitsuya walked into the building to go up to his flat.
