Man In the Periwinkle Dress

Summary:

Since beginning to date Ranpo-- Poe has gotten somewhat more confident in terms of the fluidity in his gender expression.

AKA a self indulgent au based on a fanfic I read and enjoyed.

Notes:

I read this amazing work by the lovely person I've gifted this fic too and it got me thinking, "wow, Edgar really would look great in a dress" and so here we are.

This is purely self indulgent since I am a glutton for fluff but I hope you dears like it too ❤️

Work Text:

He loved it when Edgar was like this-- confident in his own gentle and subtle manner. Edogawa had long been aware with Edgar's struggles with self-worth and self-esteem, so any moment where Edgar stepped outside of his comfort zone; Edogawa made sure to encourage him as much as possible without stifiling the other man.

Currently, Edogawa was lazing on Edgar's bed with Karl resting on his back-- something commonplace ever since Edgar had first invited the detective into his home-- while Edgar stood in front of his full length mirror, brushing his fluffy bangs to one side of his forehead which allowed for a periwinkle eye to be uncovered. Edogawa remebered that Edgar had assumed that hairstyle when the two were younger. He also remembered how Edgar seemed to have an aversion to said hairstyle following Edogawa's triumph over him in their battle of wits.

Edogawa felt himself warm with pride seeing the way Edgar had steadily began to come out of his shell after growing more affiliated with the ADA and-- Edogawa was definitely bragging here-- since the two had started dating.

Edgar turned away from the mirror, looking down at Edogawa with an uneasy smile that some would mistake to be an indication of him being uncomfortable-- but Edogawa knew better. It was simply the way his boyfriend expressed himself, unused to many positive emotions in his life.

With an impish smirk on his face, Edogawa shimmied on the bed, disrupting Karl's nap and forcing the raccoon to roll off of him and flop onto the bed. Edgar frowned at Karl's displeased chittering but quickly flitted his gaze over to Edogawa who was now standing in front of him. The detective absentmindedly tugged on the skirt of Edgar's dress, face in an unreadable expression until he tilted his head up to meet Edgar's gaze (to neither's surprise Edgar quickly broke eye contact) and smiled a soft genuine smile that Edogawa reserved only for Edgar's eyes alone.

"I told you that that color brought out the purple in your eyes, Eddy," Edogawa said quietly, not quite wanting to break the mood. "it looks better than I'd imagined. But that's probably because it's you wearing it and not that stupid mannequin."

Edgar felt his face warm and he leaned down, pressing a tender kiss to what was supposed to be Edogawa's cheek but the man predicted Edgar's course of action-- and turned his head ever so slightly so that their lips met in the middle.
