Chapter Text
The next day, Ben woke up.
Well, actually he had to pinch himself to make sure that last night wasn’t a dream. Had Devi really shown up to his door, wanting to have sex, and then saying she wasn’t ready (which he was totally ok with, obviously), only to heavy make out with him?? Only to get dealt the mom card???
Yup.
And with that, he shot out of bed, getting ready to conquer the day with his daily routine. Drop down to the floor, pump out twenty push-ups (or more since he was jacked), brush his teeth and the usual bathroom stuff, check his agenda, and (more recently) get breakfast. Patty made him an assortment of muffins that morning, so he grabbed a lemon-blueberry one and practically skipped outside.
It was the first day of summer break and for once, Ben had nothing to do. At least not until the next week, when his internship at an LA law firm…which he somehow got by himself with no help from his hotshot dad. To say he was excited was an understatement–he was counting down the days until he could get a taste of the industry and being an actual part of the workforce.
But he was also excited about something else.
Yeah, you guessed it.
His steamy makeout sesh with Devi, which was so rudely but not surprisingly interrupted by her mother. He knew that as always, they would have quite a bit to talk about after to figure out what the hell that was and what the hell it meant. But until one of them grew a pair to text the other to set up a when and where to talk, he kept replaying the events, unable to keep himself from grinning like a kid in a candy store.
See, it was obvious that Devi was insecure about an ungodly number of things. But Ben was insecure too–partially because of Devi. He only had three girlfriends (if you counted Devi as one); The first was Shira who didn’t give a crap about him and only wanted his mansion in the background of her instagram pics. Then, Devi two-timed him with the hottest guy in school (and to this day he still wonders why she even bothered staying with him if she had Paxton). And then throughout his relationship with Aneesa, he was just waiting for the other shoe to drop when they left their honeymoon phase and he realized that he was still pining after the one that got away (cue the katy perry song).
But yesterday, even after Paxton nonchalantly dedicated his graduation speech to Devi, Ben was her first choice. She wanted him. Nobody else, just him. And he was always hers, so naturally he was all in.
Ben pulled out his phone and texted Devi a quick “good morning” text, with a careful smiley face emoji of course.
