Work Text:

Bizly’s life wasn’t all too odd. He lived in a small village, nothing much happened.

Well, life in the village wasn’t odd, but Bizly was odd. That’s what his parents told him at least. He was born with unnatural features. His eyes were a deep unnatural blue, animals loved him and didn’t run from him, and he was born on a new moon.

His village was superstitious, and Bizly hated it. Anyone born on a new moon was viewed as unlucky to some, demonic to others.

To cut a long story short, the town did not like Bizly.

If something went wrong, the town assumed it was the gods mad that Bizly was in their village. It was only a matter of time that the town snapped.

Which leads to Bizly’s current situation.

The village had a horrible drought going on. Their crops had been dying at an alarming rate, and they needed a quick fix.

And that quick fix seemed to be trying to kill Bizly.

He overheard two people talking about the plans, how they were going to kill him the next day. They were going to grab him when he was sleeping.

That terrified Bizly, and caused him to run that night. The town obviously heard him (he wasn’t very quiet) and chased him.

The woods were very dark, except for the torches behind him. Bizly didn’t have time to grab anything, he only had the clothes on his back. He didn’t want to die, he had so much to live for.

All he could do was run and run, jumping over roots that were sticking out. He hoped that they would trip over the roots.

What did he do to deserve this, why did the gods curse him with this.

As Bizly was running, as fast as he could, he was praying. Praying to whichever god would listen to him.

Well, his prayers were answered when as he was running he saw a soft light in the distance. It was somewhere he could hide. He quickly darted through the trees and landed himself in a small shop with a ram hybrid in front of him.

“Hello Bizly.” The hybrid smiled at him, showing off his fangs.

“How-” Bizly took a deep breath, catching his breath. “How do you know my name?”

“Oh you don’t need to worry about that,” The hybrid leaned on the counter that was in front of him. “Now, I heard you’re in quite a pickle.” The shouting of the Village could be heard in the distance.

Bizly panicked, realizing they were getting closer. “Please, you have to help me, they’re going to kill me,” he pleaded. Bizly was not one to plead, but he felt like it was justified. He had to convince this strange man to let him hide here.

The ram hybrid only laughed at this. “Oh please. If you want my help you’ll have to do something for me, nothing comes for free.”

“I’ll do anything, just please .”

“Now that’s what I like to hear.” The hybrid walked around the counter he was behind, standing in front of Bizly now. “Here’s how this will work, you’ll work under me now, help me with certain things.” The hybrid held his hand out to Bizly, looking him in the eyes. “What do you say, Bizly.”

Bizly hesitated, looking at the hand, then the figure in front of him. “I- how can I even trust you?”

The ram took his hand away, something shining in his red eyes. “Well, I guess you really don’t need my help. It was simple terms, but if you don’t want to…” he turned away, and Bizly could feel something pulling him towards the doors.

“WAIT, please-” Bizly yelled, feeling the pulling sensation stop. “Please, I accept the terms, please just help me.”

The ram turned back around, a dangerous smile on his face. “Now that’s what I like to hear.” He held out his hand, and Bizly took it. Behind them, the doors to the magical shop slammed shut.

What has Bizly gotten himself into?

——————

Bizly had been taken into the ram hybrid's care. He had learned that his name was Schlatt. He had tasked Bizly with helping around the shop, some training sprinkled in. Schlatt wouldn’t tell him why he was training him.

Bizly didn’t complain, Schlatt took him in, he owed it to the hybrid. Plus, the ram told him every day that he did, and Bizly is dead set on making it up to him.

Recently, poppies had been popping up around the small shack Bizly stayed in. Schlatt scowled at them every time he visited. Schlatt hated them so Bizly probably should too. He couldn’t help but be intrigued though.

They popped up no matter what Schlatt did. He could cover the entire perimeter of the shack with stone and they would still grow through. He could make the soil so infertle that the grass would die, but the poppies would sprout. It made Schlatt mad to no end.

And Schlatt being angry made Bizly scared.

Schlatt being mad made his training more intense. It made it so Bizly could barely walk to his very stiff bed. It made it so he could barely work the next day.

As long as Bizly was safe and not dead, he was happy.

One day Schlatt did sit him down in the shop though. It was during a rest day where Bizly was placed in the shop instead of training. Schlatt had walked in and told him to sit, as he needed to warn him of something.

“Listen Bizly,” Schlatt began, looking at Bizly intensely. “People will try and convince you I did something wrong. You can’t listen to them, you are under my care. Who would you believe, me, or some random people you just met.”

Schlatt’s eyes looked very intense. Bizly could only nod, and that caused Schlatt to smile.

“Good, just remember that.”

——————

It was night when something weird happened.

Bizly was in his shack, it was a sleepless night. He had a gut feeling he shouldn’t fall asleep.

It's not like he could anyways, it felt like he was being watched. That he wasn’t alone. He could swear he could see a figure outside his window too.

He was terrified.

Bizly hesitantly got up to look out the open window. It was dark outside, he couldn’t see out there very well, but he could hear something- or someone- moving. “Hello?” Bizly was hesitant to call out, but he thought it would be better than being snuck up on.

He suddenly heard multiple people whispering to each other.

Shit, I said you were too loud Charlie-

Well at least I didn’t stand right outside the window Griz-

Both of you shut up, he obviously knows we’re here now, gods why do I have to be the responsible one .”

Bizly started backing away from his window, shaking lightly. What the fuck was that. Who were they?

He kept backing up, only to bump into someone. He whipped around to see someone he did not know. Someone was staring at him with pure white eyes and a concerned face.

Suddenly, two other people were in the room with him, and they all shared a concerned look.

“Who are you guys?!” Bizly was yelling. He hoped that Schlatt could somehow hear him. “How did you get in here?!”

“Please calm down,” the one in red said, taking a step forward. All Bizly did was glare, mentally preparing to fight. “We really mean no harm, despite what Schlatt has told you.” They said Schlatt’s name with such venom it made Bizly flinch. Were these the people Schlatt warned him about? They had to be.

“Grizzly, you’ll only freak him out more,” The one in light blue said, sighing lightly. “We only came here for a warning, if he offers you a golden apple, do not take it. You will regret it.”

“Why should I trust you?! You randomly show up watching me, and you expect me to believe you?!” Bizly yelled at them. They had a look of understanding, then disappeared.

What just happened?

——————

When Bizly told Schlatt, his eyes got dark, and he had gripped Bizly’s shoulders so tight it hurt. He had made Bizly tell him what the 3 told him. He was not happy when he leant what they said.

‘Who do you trust more, some people who broke in, or me, who saved you and housed you.’ Schlatt had said.

Bizly obviously trusted Schlatt more.

——————

It was a year since Bizly was taken in by the ram hybrid.

Sure, Schlatt was strict, but Bizly couldn’t be happier!

Though, he couldn’t get what those 3 said out of his head, even a year later. They didn’t directly interact after the first time. Bizly could tell they were watching him from a distance, he always felt someone watching him.

It brought him a strange sense of comfort, and that confused him. Why did he feel comforted by people that he was told were dangerous.

Schlatt on the one year mark showed up to Bizly’s shack in the early morning, a smile on his face.

“Good morning Bizly.” Schlatt had said, holding something behind his back. “Today is a very special day! I believe you are ready for the greatest gift I could give you.”

Bizly only looked at him confused. What gift could that be?

“Now close your eyes and hold out your hands?”

Bizly was quick to comply. He felt something cool get put in his palms, cold against his skin, still hot from being under a blanket. When Bizly was allowed to open his eyes again, he was greeted by the sight of an apple.

A golden apple.

Bizly froze, remembering the warning from the 3 Schlatt warned him about. Remembering their warning they gave him a year ago.

“Now where I come from, golden apples are… special.” Schlatt was giving Bizly a smile that made him feel uneasy. It made him question everything Schlatt had told him.

“Now, along with them being special, you have to eat the entire thing, it’s considered rude and impolite to not eat it all.”

Schlatt was looking at him expectantly. Everything in Bizly’s mind was telling him to not eat the apple. It must have translated to his face, because Schlatt’s face got dark.

“What? Do you not appreciate this? After everything I’ve done?” Bizly tensed hearing Schlatt said this.

“No no- I promise I do appreciate everything you do for me-” Bizly was trying to cover his tracks now. He didn’t want to make Schlatt upset.

Bizly cracked and finally took a bite of the apple, feeling Schlatt’s intense gaze on him as he did. When he did he was hit with a wave of something . Bizly didn’t know what it was, but he knew he couldn’t stop eating the apple now.

It made him feel sick as he kept eating.

As Bizly took the last bite, his world went black.

——————

When Bizly woke up he was alone, Schlatt nowhere in sight. He could feel the magic in his veins, and it scared him. He didn’t know what this magic was, but he could feel it.

What did Schlatt do to him?

——————

Bizly was running through the forest again.

It was almost funny how ironic this was, running in the same forest that Schlatt found him in.

Only this time he was running from Schlatt.

Bizly didn’t know what snapped in him. All he knew was he needed to go. He made his move in the dead of night, and he could see Poppies leading into the forest. That would be his trail. He just knew it would lead him to safety.

He wasn’t very far into the forest when he heard Schlatt yell. Bizly needed to run faster, needed to find a way to lose Schlatt. He didn’t know what his powers were, so they were no help.

Bizly took a deep breath and began to call out to the 3 that gave him a warning. “PLEASE, HELP ME-” He tripped over a root, and tumbled down a small hill. He tried to get up after, only to have pain shoot up his leg, causing him to crumple. Was he going to die here?

Bizly heard 3 pairs of footsteps coming towards him, and all he could do was curl up. He didn’t want to die, he couldn’t die here.

“Oh god… Bizly I promise we won’t let Schlatt get you now, you're safe with us.”

He didn’t know who said it, but he knew he was safe now.

A new voice chimed in this time. “Schlatt will be here soon, we have to get you somewhere safe, can we pick you up?” Bizly nodded at the question, and suddenly he was being lifted off the ground.

“What do you think you’re doing?” Schlatt was walking up to them, anger clear in his voice. “You better put him down Charlie, you know that you three are powerless against me.” Then Schlatt’s gaze fell to Bizly, and it was filled with an emotion Bizly couldn’t name. “Bizly, if you come back with me, we can just pretend this never happened. We can keep figuring out your powers, wouldn’t you like that?”

Bizly couldn’t reply, he didn’t know how. Luckily, the one wearing light blue stepped forward to say something. “You can’t touch us Schlatt, you know we can outspeed you.” Bizly felt himself get held tighter, and Bizly wasn’t sure when the last time he felt truly safe was. The touch felt like fire, but Bizly didn’t mind.

“We’re going to leave with Bizly, and you can’t stop us.” The last voice chimes in. There’s so much confidence in the voice that Bizly can’t help but believe him.

The person holding him- He thinks his name was Charlie- leaned down to whisper to him. “We’re going to start running soon, hold on tight.”

Bizly only nodded and he watched as Charlie signaled to the other two, who nodded at him. “Sorry to cut this short Schlatt, but we must be going, farwell.” The one in red said, a smirk evident in his tone. They began running, and Schlatt had no chance to catch up.

That day, a new god joined the ranks of the council. No one knew where he came from, but the council planned to keep it that way.

Bizly still had a lot to learn as the god of mobs.
