Chapter Text
Y/N individually woke each of the kids up for their first day of school. Courtney had already graduated, so she could sleep in, while the other boys struggled to keep their eyes open at 6:45 in the morning. Dave was going into 8th grade, Kurt into 10th, and Krist into 12th. None of them were excited. Courtney handed down some of her old supplies to Krist, and Y/N bought Kurt and Dave new supplies. They packed their lunches and sent them off to the bus stop.
"I can't believe we have to go to a new school on our first full day in a new town," Kurt grumbled, walking in the middle of his two adopted brothers. "You complain too much, Kurt. It's not the end of the world," Krist stated, receiving no sort of reaction from the moody boy beside him, as he continued ranting. "I know I complain too much, and I don't care, because I have a reason to do so." Dave carefully listened to the older boys on his right, taking note of how they spoke and interacted. He was a lot younger than them, so he felt kind of alone. He decided he wouldn't speak unless they spoke to him, in order to save himself from even more alienation.
"Dave, don't you think this is kind of ridiculous?"
Dave stuttered, "I-I dunno'," he mumbled, "It's better than showing up after everyone else started, right?"
Kurt thought about it, before deciding to actually listen and not be so stubborn. "I guess you have a point," he mumbled, "I just wish we could've been here a little longer. I'm not trying to complain, I'm just saying I wish."
"You just said you didn't care that you were complaining," Krist added.
Kurt scoffed, "Krist, shut up. You always have to argue with me." Kurt nudged him and Dave laughed, watching as they almost got into a cat fight on the sidewalk before they realized a bus stop filled with kids would see them if they continued. "Close one, you jackass," Krist whispered, receiving a middle-finger from his friend.
Not long after they got to the bus stop, the bus pulled up, and tons of kids in their neighborhood piled in. Dave sat towards the front with the middle schoolers, separated from Kurt and Krist towards the back. Dave sat alone, back hunched as he picked at his fingernails. He didn't notice anyone near him until he heard a voice call out to him. "Hey!" He looked over and saw a blonde boy, presumably in his grade, standing in the aisle. "Can I sit here?" he yelled out, trying to be heard over the rowdy kids in the bus. "Yeah, sure," Dave said, scooting a bit over to make room for the boy, although he was smaller than him. "Are you new? I don't think I recognize you." The bus started, and the noise only got louder. It was hard to hear now. "Yeah, I'm from Virginia."
The boy seemed amazed, "Holy shit, Virginia? That's gotta be, like, a lot of miles... Anyway, I'm Taylor, I'm an eighth grader, what about you?" Dave slightly laughed, "I'm an eighth grader, too. My name is Dave." Taylor smiled, "Okay, cool, Dave. I hope we have classes together, you seem cool." Dave now had to yell pretty loudly to be heard, "Yeah, you too."
-
Kurt and Krist sat in their separate classes alone, not surprised, as this was how they spent their days at school back home as well. There were only a couple minutes until the bell would ring for lunch, and they were aching to see each other again. Kurt hadn't spoken to a single soul until a boy approached him, and he sighed, expected to be ridiculed or pestered. "Hey," He exclaimed, "I like your shirt. I love Bowie."
Both Kurt and this boy looked down at his shirt, which did indeed have David Bowie's face plastered across it. "Thanks, dude," Kurt replied, shocked that someone in school had something positive to say about him. "No problem. I'm Layne."
"I'm Kurt."
"Are you new? I don't recognize you."
"Yeah, I moved here yesterday."
"Would you wanna sit with me and my friends at lunch?"
Kurt smiled, "Yeah, sure. That sounds cool. Could my brother Krist come too?"
"Sure thing, as long as he's as cool as you seem," Layne joked.
"He's cooler." The two laughed, "I doubt that," Layne said with a smirk, before the bell rang and they were dismissed to lunch.
-
Kurt managed to find Krist in the hoard of teenagers running to the cafeteria, and told him about the news. "I made a friend, and we're gonna sit with him and his friends." Kurt spilled to Krist, who had no time to process all of this information. "Oh, okay. Are they cool?"
"Layne, my friend, is. He was oddly nice to me, it kinda felt like he was hitting on me." Krist chuckled, "A guy?" Kurt also laughed, "Yes, it really did. He was all like 'Oh you're shirt is so cool, and so are you.'"
"That doesn't mean he was hitting on you," Krist sighed.
"He was smirking!" Kurt yelled.
Krist was skeptical of his friends passion, "It almost seems like you wish he was hitting on you."
"I'm not gay, Krist."
"Oh sure you aren't..." He mumbled under his breath. Kurt nudged him, "I am not, you fucker!" The two boys laughed as they entered the cafeteria, Kurt eyeing the crowd in an attempt to find his new friends. Layne had big, hair-sprayed hair, so he stuck out a lot. He eventually found them, "Follow me, I found them," Kurt said as he pulled Krist by the arm to the table. "Hey, those other boys are in my second period," Krist said, escaping from Kurt's death grip on his arm.
"Oh, hey Kurt!" Layne said as they approached he and his friends. "Hey Layne, this my adopted brother, Krist. He's a senior." Layne smiled, "Hello, Krist. I'm Layne, and these are Chris and Eddie. They're seniors too." Kurt and Krist both took a seat. Chris and Eddie both said hello, smiling as they did so. It felt good to be accepted at school, as neither Kurt nor Krist had been for years. Everyone thought they were freaks, but these boys seemed to not care.
"Aren't you in my gym class?" Chris asked Krist, who nodded in response. "Yeah, I think both of you are." Kurt and Layne sat back, not being able to respond to what the seniors were saying. Eddie took notice, "Aw, the sophomores feel left out," He joked, the other two boys laughing. "It isn't fair," Layne whined. "All of the cool people are in your grade. Kurt is the first cool person I've found in my grade."
"Well, it sucks to be you, then, Layne." Everyone once again laughed, ate their lunch, and carried on with their days pleased to know they had new friends.
-
The three boys got off the bus, all having great days at school, which came to their surprises. Dave got off the bus first, and patiently waited for his older brothers to get off. Once they did, they said hi, and asked him how his day was. "It was really good," Dave smiled. "I made a friend, and he's really cool." The bus pulled away, and they waited to speak so they could be heard over the obnoxiously loud engines. "That's good, we made three."
"Holy shit, you have a full-on group!" Kurt laughed, "I guess we do. Krist should be thankful I let him in, because if I hadn't, he would have zero friends. Wouldn't be the first time."
"Shut up, Kurt. You're so fucking annoying."
"Come on Krist, you know you love me," He smiled, and Krist rolled his eyes. "Actually, I don't, because I hate you." Dave only laughed at the scene erupting between the two as they walked down the sidewalk, not far from their house. "I love you too, Kristy." Kurt laughed before Krist kicked him in the shin, his laughter being replaced by a grunt. "Kristy? Are you serious? Now you're Kurty."
Kurt had no time to protest before they were outside of their house. "I'm telling Y/N how much of a bitch you are," Kurt declared as he opened the door. "Do it, you won't." Kurt laughed, knowing he was fully correct. "You're right, I won't." Krist smiled, happy he got what he wanted.
"So, how was it?" Y/N emerged from her seat beside Courtney on the couch. "It was good, we all made friends," Kurt smiled. Y/N smiled, "Aww, thats amazing. Courtney and I made tacos, if you want any. If you don't, it's okay." "I'm good, thank you," Kurt said. Dave agreed, "Yeah, me too, but thank you." Krist made his way into the kitchen, sitting down at the island and immediately devouring one of them. "It's okay, but we made a lot, so you can have some later if you want." Kurt and Dave both nodded, "Yeah I will, thank you, Y/N," Dave said, as he walked up the stairs, Kurt close behind him. "No problem!"
