Shoto set up the recording on his phone, aiming it towards his deadpan stare, having pressed start.
“Huh, I guess this is working.”, he said. “That’s good. Well, hello, as you know, I’m Shoto Todoroki and I wanted to share what a normal weird day is like here.”
He presses the flip camera button so that it shows the floor, before tilting it back up. “Let’s see what Midoriya and Doe are up to.”
He stepped up onto the stairs, making a show of tilting his phone around to show how ordinary it looked at first glance, thinking back to when he first saw Midoriya and Aizawa-sensei talking to a group of seven people he had never seen before.
“Alright, I’ve talked with Nedzu.”, Aizawa-sensei had said, talking mostly to a magenta haired girl and a blond boy. “He’s decided to let you stay here, enrolled as second year students. Your dorms are in the building behind us. Due to the circumstances that Problem Child has informed me of, you’ll be staying with us until this situation is resolved. Do not tell anyone how you came here.”
The pair had agreed, and turned to talk to their friends, who didn’t seem to understand Japanese. After that, they walked into the building and Shoto had made a stealthy escape, leaving him to wonder what Aizawa-sensei meant by “circumstances” and a situatuon that needed to be resolved. Were they stranded tourists? American, perhaps..? , he thought to himself.
He had another investigation now, it seems, other than proving that Midoriya was All Might’s secret love child or that Shinsou was Eraserhead’s love child.
The newcomers had been in UA grounds for about a week now, but Shoto hadn’t gotten close or asked many questions… yet. Of course though, he wanted to cover this up to reveal later. So yesterday he pitched the idea of recording dorm/class life and mostly everyone seemed to agree.
The kid with orange bangs seemed to like this idea too, and the others in his group seemed to be alright with it, so there was no harm being done.
So now he had a few goals or steps in mind for his videos:
- Investigate the new group
- Investigate Midoriya
- Investigate anyone interesting
- Show “skits” and “memes” as Kaminari would say
- Profit.
He walks into the common room to see Midoriya and Doe hunched in front of the TV and watching newsclips of heroes, Midoriya clicking through different videos on YouTube.
“....I really like All Might, but Kamui Woods is pretty cool too! Arbor is so versatile and neat!”, Midoriya says, putting on a video of the wooden hero fighting a giant villain only for Mt. Lady to intercept and steal the spotlight.
“Huh, so he’s actually made out of wood? Interesting. Who’s the giant woman?”, Doe asked, pointing at Mt. Lady as she turns around. “Oh, ew, I did not want to see your ass.”
“Mt. Lady! It was her debut!”
“Oh? Cool.”
“Yeah,” Midoriya says, his eyes alight as they usually are when he talks about heroes. “Who’s your favorite so far?”
“Probably Edgeshot? Being able to flatten yourself like origami is pretty neat! Probably took him so long to learn how to concentrate enough to transform so fast.”
“True! And I know you’ve already met Eraserhead, since, you know, he’s our homeroom teacher, but he’s really good at hand to hand combat! You know some hand to hand combat, right?”
“Uhh, yeah! It’s pretty useful when you’re, y’know, Quirkless and stuff.”
Midoriya thinks about that. “Hey, maybe I can get Aizawa-sensei to let you watch our sessions!”
“That’d sound fun, but honestly, if anything I’ve heard in the past week is true, then I don’t really want to get squished into a pancake..”, Doe replied, chuckling awkwardly.
Shoto decided to let himself be known, clearing his throat. “Midoriya.”
The green haired boy swivelled his head around suddenly. “Oh, hey Todoroki! Me and Doe-san-”
Doe sighed. “ Please just call me John. I’m still not used to being referred to as my last name.”
“Oh! Sorry! John-san and I were talking about heroes and how they’d do in certain situations!”, Midoriya amended, and Shoto noted how Doe…. no, John looked somewhat unsatisfied at still having an honorific attached, but didn’t say anything.
“Yeah,” John agreed. “It’s really interesting.”
A loud explosion was heard from upstairs.
“Uh. I’ll be right back, Midoriya. I think Isen’s in trouble.”, he stated before rushing out of the room.
“ISEN!”, he yelled. “WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON UPSTAIRS!”, he yelled up as he disappeared from view.
Midoriya winced. “The explosions probably came from Kacchan. I should probably go make sure nothing else goes wrong sooo upstairs we go?”
“Upstairs we go.”, Shoto agrees, and the two of them trail after John.
Shoto checked on his phone to make sure it was still recording, then looked back up again to see John and Bakugo in a tense stare-off.
Midoriya looked between the two, seemingly unsure whether to pull Bakugo or John away.
The boy with orange bangs- Isen, his was, apparently- took the opportunity to flee, running behind Shoto, almost making him drop the phone.
It was understandable, really. Not many could stand up to Bakugo's explosions, even if they were more calmed down and not as damaging as the ones in his full rage.
However, Bakugo noticed. "Oh HELL no!", He snarled. "You ate my fucking bag of chips, GET THE FUCK BACK HERE YOU BASTARD", he yelled, going to push John out of the way before the Quirkless boy slammed a hand into the back of his neck with enough force to knock the explosive blond down and seemingly knock him out.
Mina came up the stairs. "Hey guys! I heard yelling, is Bakugo- oh, what-", she started before stopping at the sight of Bakugo sprawled on the floor, John looming over him. "Holy shit. I'm going to take a picture of this."
John blinked down at the blind at his feet. "I honestly did not think he'd go down so easily…. I must've put a bit too much force…. But he'll be fine. Probably."
"Should we take him to Recovery Girl?", Mina whispered.
Midoriya knelt down to check on Bakugo. "I doubt he'd appreciate that, so let's just, uh, place him in his dorm.", He said, gently scooping up the taller boy.
"Sure. Sounds good to me.", John said and as the group followed and Shoto was about to stop the video, he caught Mina still whispering "Damn!" under her breath.
