Chapter Text
Damian and Anya arrived at the hall first.
They wanted some time alone even if it was just five minutes. Emile made a big scene about how he needed to go back and pick up Ewen so one of them could bring Damian his car. He wanted to let his friends know he was leaving so he wouldn’t be a sore thumb in their first moments as a newlywed couple.
Of course, in true Damian and Anya nature, their conversation wasn’t one filled with feelings and sentiments. No. Instead it was about Anya’s dress.
“So what do you mean you found your wedding dress?”
“Oh that.” Anya gave a nervous laugh. “That’s a thing of the past, Damian! Everything worked out.”
Damian blinked in disbelief, “Anya, how could you lose a wedding dress?”
Anya was confused herself. “Honestly, I couldn’t even tell you. I swore Beck, mom, and me checked my closet thoroughly, but Uncle Yuri found it!”
That raised a red flag to Damian. “So, mom, who has perfect vision, couldn’t find it, but Uncle Yuri did?”
Anya nodded, “He’s a magician!”
“I highly doubt that.”
“Well I mean he is a spy, Damian.”
“And mom was an assassin!”
“Shh!” Anya shushed him. “Not so loud.”
Before Damian could respond, Franky and Yuri opened the doors to the venue and boh attempted to walk in, each man desperately trying to shove the other in the process.
“I should go first!” Franky stated. “I officiated the ceremony!”
Yuri growled, “I’m their favorite uncle. I should go in.”
Franky glared, “You take that back!”
“I will not be silenced for telling the truth!”
Yor pushed them through the door, “I swear if you two ruin their wedding reception I’ll make you two regret it.”
Yuri and Franky held each other, both of the men were terrified of Yor when she got like that. “Yes ma’am!”
Yor smiled, “Okay good!” She held August’s hand and made her way to greet the newlyweds.
Yuri and Frankly, still holding each other, noticed a love sick smile on Loid. “She’s amazing isn’t she?”
“She just threatened us!” Yuri and Franky complained.
“I wanted to be the first to congratulate you, two.” Yor said, as she and August approached Damian and Anya.
“So did I.” August told them.
Damian smiled and ruffled August's hair, “Thanks buddy.”
Anya hugged Yor and then August. She stood at August’s height. “You’re a sweet kid, you know that?”
August frowned, “Hey don’t go calling me a kid! I’m mature.”
Anya laughed, “You might look like mom, but you’re really acting like dad right now.” Anya fixed her brother’s hair, “Don’t go trying to grow up too fast.”
“It’s your wedding, big sis, people should be giving you guys advice.”
Anya stood up, “Oh?” She went back to be by Damian’s side, “What advice do you have for us?”
August turned to Damian, “Damian, never eat big sis’ peanuts. She gets just as scary as mom!”
Damian and Yor laughed. Anya blushing from embarrassment. “That was one time!” She defended herself.
August ignored her, “Bond and I were scared for days.”
“Speaking of Bond, where is he?” Anya asked.
“Oh your dad had him.” Yor explained.
They turned to the entrance to find Loid trying to pry Bond off of Yuri and Franky.
“I said get off of me Bond!” Franky yelled, gathering the attention of new guests as they trickled in.
“Yeah, Bondman, this was a new suit!”
Franky turned and smirked, “Cause you didn't own one already right?” He shook his head. “But I wouldn’t expect you to have some class.”
Yuri’s eye twitched. “Some of us can afford to buy a new suit for a special event instead of reusing the same one since they were twelve! But I guess when you stay the same height since middle school has its perks.”
“I AM NOT THE SAME HEIGHT AS I WAS THEN!” Franky defended.
Yuri smirked, “Did you hear that Loi-loi? He didn't say anything about the suit.”
Loud managed to get Bond under control. “You two better knock off the bickering, before I let Bond go.”
“I should probably help your father. Come on, August.” Yor said, leaving to help Loid and scold her brother and brother-in-law again.
Anya and Damian laughed.
“So nothing’s changed then.” Damian told her.
“I wouldn’t say that.” Damian looked at Anya, She met his eyes and turned her body to his. Anya grabbed his hands and smiled, “Cause you’re a Forger now!”
Damian smiled and nodded, “It feels pretty cool to be known as Damian Forger.”
“You want to know what’s cooler?” Anya asked with her usual mischievous smile.
“What is?”
Anya wrapped his arms around her, “Being known as your wife.” She smiled and kissed him.
Damian blushed, “Anya people are staring.”
“Damian everyone here just saw us kiss at the reception.” Anya tried to comfort him, “Besides Becky, Ewen, and Emile know worse.”
Damian gave her a disappointed look. “That doesn’t exactly make me feel better.”
“Well maybe some food will?” She led him to their table. “And I promise no more surprise kisses. I’m just happy to be with my husband.”
Damian blushed and looked away, “It’s fine. I mean it’s like you said, everyone knows right?”
Anya gave him a smile. He was so shy sometimes as if he wasn’t the one doing this to her when they attended Eden. “Right. For now let’s eat!”
“Actually, Anya, we should probably greet everyone first. Common etiquette.”
Anya sighed, “Oh yeah I forgot about that. But we’ll make it quick, so we can eat.”
O - O - O
“So Anya, how does it feel being married?” Becky asked. Becky herself was currently engaged to her Eden sweetheart, so it was safe to assume she wanted a glimpse into what it was like.
“Yeah, are you excited?” Odette asked. Odette and Emile had reunited recently. Anya wasn’t too sure of the details, because she hadn’t had time to ask Emile herself and she wasn’t going to read his mind. Whatever happened, they both seemed a lot happier.
“Well one thing’s for sure is Damian is going to drink his happiness.” Becky said and gestured to Alexander, Emile, Ewen, Yuri, and Franky who were all cheering Damian on as he finished his first drink of the night. The men then picked Damian up and threw him up in the air.
Damian seemed like he was having fun.
Anya gave a small giggle seeing him. His hair was now messy thanks to the guys throwing him up, but he didn't seem to care. Anya knew he’d care after this rush of energy left him. His eyes were shut and he was laughing.
“It’s amazing.” Anya told them, but her gaze didn't break away from Damian. “I feel it’s only this great, because I married Damian.”
Becky and Odette gushed over her answer, but Anya walked towards Damian who was now on the ground.
She reached up to fix his hair.
“Thanks.” He told her.
She looked at him as she finished brushing his hair back. “I just knew how much it would bother you.” She took a step back, “How much have you had to drink?”
“Not much. I’m fine.” Damian put his arm around Anya. “I do want to remember our wedding, Anya.”
Anya leaned into him. It felt nice being next to him like this.
“I can’t say the same about Uncle Yuri or Uncle Franky, though.”
As if Damian commanded it, Franky was on the stage with the microphone. “How are we doing everybody! My name is Franky Forger and I am one of the uncles! The other being that guy!” They looked and Franky pointed to a drunk Yuri who waved cheerfully.
Anya knew Damian liked sticking to the day of schedule. “Do you want me to stop it?”
Damian shook his head, “A little chaos is fun.” He placed a kiss on her forehead. “Besides that’s what the Forger’s are known for right?”
Anya laughed, “Right.”
Franky continued talking, “I just love Anya and Damian so much. I mean I remember holding her at the hospital! The nurses had to fight me to get my dear niece back!”
Anya and Damian snorted, knowing that never happened, but it was nice to think it was.
Anya tugged on Damian's suit. He bent down so she could whisper in his ear, “If you think about it, some of the people here think he tried to kidnap me.”
Damian laughed.
Anya liked his laugh. It was a deep and hearty laugh that she longed to hear again.
“And I just know Damian and her are going to be so happy.” He began tearing up at the mic earning him an awe from the rest of the audience. “But before I give me speech-”
“Before he gives his speech.” Damian repeated in a low voice to Anya. She chuckled.
“I want to invite the parents to give the first toast! Get them up here, Yuri!”
Loud looked back at Franky, scolding him with his eyes. Yuri got Loid out of his chair and shoved him on stage. “Hey don’t shove me!”
“Notice how he didn't even try to get mom.” Anya told Damian.
Damian snickered, “Cause she’d probably kill him, everyone knows she doesn’t like public speaking.”
Loid was now onstage with Franky and Yuri behind him. Loid composed himself and turned to face Anya and Damian. His eyes softened. They had really come a long way huh? It was all his fault of course. Loid had apologized to Damian before, several times, but stopped when Damian reassured him he understood and that he held nothing against him. Loid was surprised to find out just how much Damian admired him. Loid didn't even know there were things about him to be admired. In any case, he smiled and gave his speech. “It seems like just yesterday you two were six and fighting over.. Well frankly, everything.” The audience laughed.
“When I met Damian as Anya’s boyfriend there was never any doubt in my mind how much they loved each other. I came to know Damian as a charming, polite, and kind-hearted young man. So let’s raise a glass to my beautiful daughter, Anya, and my new son, Damian. May life bless you with many long, happy years.”
Her father’s speech made her tear up slightly, “There he goes being so mushy.”
“Beautiful words spoken from the father of the bride! And now I must insist that Yuri go next.”
Yuri started crying, “Franky.. It means a lot, man!” Yuri took the microphone from Franky. “Anya, Damian I’m just so happy for you guys.” He managed to compose himself. “One of the best memories I have of the newlyweds was during their last year at Eden. Finals were stressful and they stayed up studying in Anya’s room. Unfortunately, Yor and Loid had a no boys in room policy.”
Anya and Damian knew exactly where this story was going. Well her parents couldn’t exactly do anything about it now.
“So I walk in the morning cause I’m taking Anya to school that day and she’s not answering. Only to find Damian asleep at the desk and Anya on the carpet next to her bed. Books and homework everywhere!”
Yuri tightened his grip on the microphone. “So obviously I wake them up, but in the process I wake up Loidman and big sis too. So I did what any responsible uncle would do and helped Damian out the window!”
The audience laughed. Yor laughed. Hell it even seemed like Bond was laughing. Loid did not.
“So, Anya, Damian, I hope your marriage is filled with adventure!”
Franky took the mic from Yuri. “I’d say my own favorite memories, but don’t want to be Yuri and get punched by Loid.”
Yuri’s eyes widened, “What?!”
Franky chuckled and slightly stumbled as he took a step forward, “So how about we do that first dance bit?”
Damian and Anya liked that idea. Of course Becky snatched the microphone from Franky and lectured him. Damian couldn’t decide who he felt more bad for; Yuri for being lectured by Loid or Franky for being lectured by Becky.
Anya grabbed his hands, “Are you ready?”
Damian smirked and adjusted their hands to dance, “Always.” The music started and Damian began to lead.
Damian insisted their song be the very same song they had danced together at prom all those years ago. Who was Anya to object?
‘Everything changed when I saw you’
“So how does it feel being married?” Damian asked Anya.
Anya noted that was the second time she was asked that question today. “It’s perfect.”
Her response made Damian’s eyes soften. Did she really mean that about him?
‘And it was so easy to love you so. Something I never imagined was to fall for you with just one look.’
She leaned into him a little more, “Just don’t go ahead and get tired of me.”
Damian laughed. “Tired of you? Never.” He spun them around to dance their direction.
‘The universe wrote that you were for me. And it was so easy to love you so. Although I’d never imagine I’d get lost in your love.’
Damian pulled her a little closer. His favorite line was coming up. Anya seemed to mouth him the words too,
‘Before more time passes with you, love, I have to tell you that you’re the love of my life.’
Damian smiled and gave Anya spin.
‘Before I love you more, please listen to me. Let me tell you I gave you everything. And there’s no way to explain, even less to note, I simply fell in love when I saw you.’
Becky had the microphone now, “Damian and Anya would like to invite all the couples to finish the song with them.” She put the microphone back on the stand and went to find her fiancé.
“Oh look mom and pops are dancing together too.” Damian said and he gestured with his head to Loid and Yor.
Damian and Anya could tell they were still kind of awkward about showing affection in front of strangers. The two had been married for years and they were acting like school children. But no one could deny the fact of how much they both loved each other.
Anya looked up at Damian. She couldn’t stop looking at him. He looked so handsome in his suit. And dancing with him, remembering everything that led them to this point, made her eyes water a little.
“Are you alright?” Damian asked.
Anya smiled. “I’m just so happy I’m married to you.”
Damian blushed, “Me too.”
It was always Damian.
And it would always be Damian Forger.
