Work Text:
Mitsuba stared down at his hands in disbelief. They felt alive. He felt alive. But that couldn't be possible, could it?
He had been wandering the halls of the lockers looking for anyone to remember him in this ghostly form, but to no avail. He had then met a boy who, although intimated him at first, treated him well as to what he was used to. There was something in him he saw. It felt both familiar, yet exciting. Just as they were about to part, a ghost that he had spoken with earlier that day appeared. The boy, who, although lacked fashion sense went it comes to earrings, to put it lightly, beat the shit of it. He would jokingly tell him later that "they threw hands".
When the dust settled it appeared that said ghost was fading in and out of existence. When he fled, presumably fading from reality in the process, Mitsuba felt like he was leaving reality too, until, with a small crack he fell onto the floor. When he got up, he noticed something. He felt much warmer than before, and then feeling around he noticed that he had become corporeal. That's when it hit him. He was alive. It was a very strange thing to realize. It's not an everyday thing to die for a few months and then just come back. As expected, his body was quite stiff, since it had been pretty much just existing in the void for awhile.
Kou then started crying. He ran to him and fell into his arms. It was a really great moment, and y'all wish you could have been there.
Kou had also had these feelings. He had noticed them with Yashiro, but they were stronger. A sort-of, "is this love" thought washed over him. The thought of him being in love with another boy was an exciting thought, but it brought a challenge. Teru was used to the occasional boy liking him, and had told Kou that it was the same as some girl, and that it was fine if he ended up with a boy. Kou did not know what his father felt of these kinda of relations ships, and frankily, he was a bit scared he'd be rejected by him, or worse.
Kou decided, that since it was a Friday and pretty late, that Mitsuba would spend the night at his place, and then they would go to his Saturday Morning. But the question is, Mitsuba's death was one of those depressing stories that gets a bunch of news coverage since it was a slow news day. Which meant that a lot of people knew that the person who was just revived was dead. Dead as hell. I don't what shoes he had on in the grave so don't ask. Kou's first idea was the phone his brother, but he was probably out on exorcist duties that night, that was a no-go. The next idea, and the one they ended up going with was to just sneak him in the house and then just gaslight his family if they raised any questions. That went off surprisingly well. His sister almost noticed but Kou was able to shush her in time and she just went along with it. Kou made dinner that night and kept some aside for them to have together in his room, and then went off without a hitch as well, although the food was bit cold by the time he brought it to Mistuba.
Kou planed on going to sleep a bit early so that he and Mitsuba were able to bring Mitsuba to house before the rest of family woke up, and during the period where Teru would power sleep after a night of fighting apparitions. They didn't sleep, however (I don't mean it like that you sicko) since the chance encounter/extremely rare supernatural event had bonded them.
"So, how's life as an 'ex-or-cist'" Mistuba mocked Kou. Kou looked annoyed but cooled off after Mitsuba made fun of that too.
"Well, it can be tiring work, but I would consider it worth it"
"You take out any ghosts recently?" Mistuba said in a sudo-gangster voice.
"Well, like I told you when we met, I've been trying to not destroy every ghost I see...". Which he realized sounded kinda strange after him taking out a ghost brought his friend back to life, but he continued, "...but I've been doing things with this ghost named Hanako and this girl I met who works from him named Yashiro"
"Interesting stuff, you see, the ghost business these days ain't what it used to be,"
"Oh really" Kou began to play along "What's been changin'?"
"Well, back in my day, you couldn't just walk out there and get into the ghost scene, you really had to prove yourself to the rest of the people involved. You get that?" Kou nodded in understanding, "These days, any old schmuck can just get into the bag with no training, no experience, and barely any passion".
"They're only in it for the money!" Kou put his fist down on his hand.
"Exactly! If we don't want the ghost economy to completely collapse, there's got to be a change!" At this point, Mitsuba had put his hands in Kou's and although he didn't noticed, this was cause Kou to blush.
"So we gotta get these phonies out of the business?"
"That's exactly what I'm saying! You really get it, Kou" At this point, Mistuba cracked up and fell back onto the bed, which pulled Kou onto him. It was surprising, but they didn't move for awhile. It was a good moment. Although it would have been kinda weird to be there. They felt like kissing but both of them decided that felt like a sign. They then both asked to kiss at the same time, and then they really knew that they definitely had feelings for each other. It was sort-of cathartic for Kou that Mitsuba had the same feelings for him. It was as if they could spend the rest of their lives in that moment.
Together.
The next morning came and they went to Mitsuba's place. They knocked on the door and Mitsuba's mother reacted the same way Kou did, although this obviously parental love. Kou got Mitsuba's phone number and they parted until Monday, with a new hope that them being together would be the best thing to happen to either of them. They're fantasies about having someone would come true. Mitsuba came over to sleep that Sunday, mainly so he could gave Kou his number. They sat and talked like the night Mitsuba came back. Mitsuba's mom had been extra cautious since she didn't want anything bad to happen to him after he was revived. They were loose together, and that night they held each other (stop thinking they're gonna fuck) and Mitsuba cried about how he had no one besides Kou and his mom anymore, and Kou was there for him. They stayed together through the night and awoke to the sun
To the new day.
And the never-ending happiness.
