Chapter Seven: Day Seven
Chase wakes up in his capsule the following morning. For a second, the thought occurs to him that last night's events may have been a dream. He opens his capsule, seeing that his room was empty. He presses his fingers to his chest lightly, feeling the bandage beneath his shirt. So last night wasn't a dream.
He leaves his room, and walks down to the living room. Kaz, Oliver and Adam are playing video games in the living room. While Tory is not-so-subtly watching them from the kitchen, or more accurately watching Adam. Chase eyes her, and she looks away blushing. "Very subtle."
"Do you think he saw me?"
"Probably not."
"Good. So how are you feeling?"
"I'm fine. I feel great actually, especially considering my night."
"Good. Taylor and Leo would kill me if I didn't report back."
"Uh-huh, that's the only cause of your concern?"
"Yep." Tory smiles. "But I did take the liberty of fixing you a plate."
Tory stands up, and grabs a plate. She brings it over to him, before going back to staring at Adam. Chase shakes his head, before looking at his food. Then there's a knock at the door. It's WindStar. She's holding something according to the security camera. He gets up, and walks over to the front door. He opens it, and sees that she's holding a bag.
"What are you doing here?"
"I'm here to help with your powers. Unfortunately, powers from the serum aren't easy to control at first. So you need all the help you can get."
"Alright, but my team doesn't know yet."
"What? Why?"
"It didn't really come up when everyone was trying to make sure if I was okay. But I'll tell them."
"Okay." WindStar says, reaching into her bag. "Tell me how this feels."
She pulls something out of her bag, before sticking the end of it to his neck. And he feels nothing. "I don't feel anything. Are you doing anything?"
WindStar pulls whatever it is away. "Yeah, I just shocked you with enough electricity to kill two elephants."
"Why?"
"Because I knew you had to have a certain level of immunity from electricity but I wasn't sure how much."
"So are you going to shock me again?"
"No. I'm-" her phone dings, interrupting her. She pulls her phone out of her uniform, looking down at it with an unreadable expression. "Okay, I've got to get going. I'll be back later."
"I'll be fine. But is everything okay?"
"It's fine. It's just my mom. But until I get back, you need to wear this." She pulls a watch out of her bag.
"Okay, why?"
"Just wear it. It'll help with your new powers. You don't want to lose control of them while I'm gone, do you?"
"No."
"Then wear the watch until I get back."
He takes the watch, and she walks out. He walks back into the living room. And is immediately met with Bree. "What were you doing out there?"
"WindStar was out there. But she had to run out."
"Oh. Where'd you get the watch?"
"WindStar gave it to me."
"Why?"
"Uh…. to help with my powers."
"Why would she give you something to help with your powers?"
"Because… I have superpowers now."
"What? You have superpowers?!" The rest of the room turns to look at them.
"Yes, and I'm sorry I didn't tell you guys last night but I have superpowers."
Suddenly, Kaz claps him on the back. "Great! Now Bree's not the only bionic-superhero hybrid."
"How is it that you two get superpowers and I don't?" Adam complains from behind them.
"Don't worry, Adam, I think you're pretty special." Tory says, before walking away with rosy cheeks.
"Why are you complaining? You're the strongest of the three of us." Chase says.
"He's not the strongest." Bree says.
"Of course I'm not, you're both fucking hybrids now."
And with that, the three siblings descend into fighting.
"So what powers do you have?" Kaz finally asks after breaking up the fight between the three siblings. Bree, despite sitting on the couch with her arms crossed and a scowl on her face, not-so-subtly directs her eyes in his direction. Chase looks down at his hands, before slowly removing the watch from his wrist.
"Hit me with your flashlight hands."
"What? That's crazy."
"Just do it."
Bree eyes suspiciously, but her hands light up anyway. Seconds later, she blasts him. It courses through him, his own hands lighting up. He blasts an empty space in the room.
"Whoa. That was so cool!" Kaz exclaims.
"Skylar and I have the exact same power, Kaz."
"Bree, we talked about this. You don't have to be jealous, no matter how cute you look when you are."
"Ew, can you two not flirt in front of us?" Adam complains from behind them.
"Yeah. You're worse than Oliver and Skylar."
"He was the one who was flirting."
"And yet you've been jealous of WindStar since you met her." Chase says.
"Why don't I hit you with my electric hands again?"
"I'm invincible to it now, Bree."
"Lucky you. How about I throw a proton ring at you instead?" Their fighting is interrupted by a knock at the door, and he goes over to answer the door while putting his watch back on. He opens the door, seeing that it's WindStar on the other side. Only it takes him a while to realize that it's her. She's out of her uniform, she's not wearing makeup, her hair isn't it's usual crimson and is instead a brownish red.
"Uh, what happened?"
"We're about to work out. And my mom doesn't like the wig."
"Right. Well, come on in."
"Actually… I meant we were going to be working out at my base."
"Oh. You can still come in. But I would avoid Bree."
"Why?"
"She's a little jealous of you and Kaz."
"She shouldn't be. Kaz is just a friend."
"Try telling her that." He walks inside, and she follows after him. Adam laughs upon seeing them, seemingly taking joy in their sister's relationship woes. Something Chase couldn't blame him for. Because he took joy in it too. Kaz walks over, then walks off with WindStar.
"Fix your face, Bree." Adam laughs. Bree smacks him on the head, and he rubs his now smoking hands. "Ow, is this what I get for trying to spend time with my siblings?"
"You played video games with Oliver and Kaz,
then fought with us about who was stronger." Bree says. Chase shakes his head, and walks upstairs to get changed.
"Jealousy really isn't a good look on you." Bree jumps upon hearing Tory's voice.
"I am not jealous of WindStar."
"And yet you keep looking at her like you want to kill her."
"I am not jealous of WindStar." She repeats for what feels like the hundredth time since they met the superheroine.
"Uh-huh. But I can't say I blame you. I'd probably be jealous too." Tory says, glancing over to Adam. Bree narrows her eyes, but doesn't say anything. "But… Kaz clearly likes you. Considering the fact that he's always flirting with you. Especially recently."
"I don't like Kaz like that."
"Sure. Are you trying to convince me or you?"
Chase comes back downstairs, and WindStar stands up from the couch. She says something to Kaz that Bree can't hear. Tory looks at Bree, silently saying 'my point has been proven.' "Where are you two going?"
"We're just going to train."
"Are you sure you're okay to do that?"
"I'll be fine, Bree."
"And I'll take care of him." WindStar smiles, before pulling Chase towards the door.
WindStar and Chase make their way outside, and she leads him over to a dark blue car. "Nice car."
"Thanks. I worked hard on it." She jingles the keys. "It was just my uncle's Dodge Charger before I made some… adjustments."
"What do you mean?"
"You're about to find out." She jingles the keys again, before walking around to the driver's door. She unlocks the car, and they both get inside. They drive out of the parking lot onto the road, then she presses a button on the console. Suddenly, the car picks up speed, and she laughs excitedly. In a matter of seconds, they're stopped in a parking garage. "So the hyperspeed works."
"You didn't test it before this?"
"Excuse me, but it's been kind of a busy week. And things have been slow for The Tornado and I lately with Rick Stines in prison, and our other regulars appear to have taken time off." They both get out of the car. She leads him inside to a room with workout equipment. There's a big circle in the middle of the room. WindStar goes and stands in the circle. "Let's get started."
She spins around, before disappearing completely. Suddenly, he's knocked to the floor on his back, and WindStar reappears with her foot on his chest. He grabs her foot, causing her to stumble off of him. She regains her balance easily, doing a backflip. "Showoff."
"You're just jealous that you can't do it."
He gets back on his feet, and generates his laser bo. She avoids every swing of his bo before disappearing from sight again, and he can't hear her with his super hearing. Then seconds later he hears her breathing behind him, and he hits her with his bo. She hisses but seems mostly unaffected. She jumps over his head, landing in front him. "How did you do that?"
"I became one with the air. It's one of my powers. Unfortunately, I can't hold the form for more than a few seconds, but I don't need to." She kicks him in the stomach, and he stumbles backwards but quickly recovers. Electricity sparks at his fingers, spreading throughout his entire body. Two streams of electricity come out of his hands, hitting WindStar. She goes flying backwards, landing on her side on the floor. But she recovers quickly. "That was… impressive."
"Thanks. I have no idea how I did that, though."
"That's pretty common. You actually have more control over your electrokinesis than most newbies do." He offers her a hand, which she takes. He helps her to her feet. A spiral of electricity appears in the corner of the room before a girl materializes in the same spot. She's petite with bright pink hair, piercing grey eyes, and is dressed in a navy blue and green jumpsuit. He vaguely remembers seeing her on the front of a few of Kaz and Oliver's comics. "Cousin, you're back."
"Yeah, Firestorm should be right behind me." She says, then eyes Chase. "Who's this guy?"
"This is Chase. He's one of the ones I told you about."
"Okay. What is he doing in our base?" She hisses.
"He's one of us now. He has electrokinesis too."
"Ah, well, welcome. I'm Electra. So let's see what you got." Electra stretches her neck, making a cracking sound.
"Uh, cuz, he just got his powers last night. I don't know if he's ready to fight someone like you."
"Relax, Jay Jay, I'm not that mean. I'll go easy on him." Electra steps into the circle.
"Jay Jay?"
"As in Jayden, that's my real name."
"Right. Well, electrokinesis isn't my only power."
"Still, it would probably do you well to see a pro in action." Electra says with a grin. She holds her arms against her chest in the form of an 'x'. Her physical form turns to pink electricity before she spins toward him. His feet lift off the ground, levitating above her. She lands on her knees, turning back into her physical form.
"Is that all you got?" He lands back on the floor. He's lifted off the floor by a wave, and thrown to the floor.
"Electrokinesis isn't my only power either."
"Alright. So how did you do those first two moves?"
"You can transport yourself by electricity, by lightning or electronics. This is achieved by either riding the flow of electrons or becoming electricity itself for travel. Once you're electrokinesis is strong enough and/or skilled enough in this art of transportation, then you can also transport by the electrons in the air, static discharges and electrical components. You can make lightning strike yourself to transport your own molecules from one point to another. You can turn into electricity by just focusing. I just do the whole 'x' over the chest thing because it looks cool. But do keep in mind that it took me years to learn how to do those things, it may take a while for you to get the hang of it."
"You could always teach him." WindStar suggests. "You didn't exactly just figure out how to do this stuff."
"I don't need you to teach me. I already have two teammates with electrokinesis."
"But her powers are probably closer to yours than your teammates."
"That may be the case, but she doesn't need to teach me."
"You're going to need the lessons, Chase. Powers from the serum aren't exactly easy to control. It's taken us years to learn, and we still have our bad days. At the very least let me show you what you could do with your powers from the serum." Electra says.
"Fine."
