Work Text:
Shu Yamino, a kind and gentle person. People often look up to him, adore him, or even idolize him; if one must say, he is quite popular. When someone needs assistance, he is the person to run to, and he’ll help them without hesitation in times of need.
But who is there to help him?
Luca Kaneshiro, also known as the golden retriever boy, for the warm aura he emits whenever he’s around anyone. Some say if they’re in a bad mood or had a melancholic look on their faces, once they see that cheerful smile of his, their frowns are turned upside down.
And he is there to help him.
The blond heard his phone ring beside him, he took his attention off the screen in front of him and took out his headphones to reach towards the buzzing electronic. With the swipe of a hand, he rested his phone on one side of his ear and answered. “Hello?”
On the other side of the phone, he can hear small resistant breaths. “Luca?” The soft and clean voice of Shu replied, “Do you… Do you wanna come over?” He sounded off the track – that something was bothering him – and that didn’t go unnoticed by Luca.
“Shu, are you okay?” He immediately asked with a tone of worry. The Shu he knew was someone who was composed and calm. But there was another side to him that only Luca himself noticed.
“...Yeah, I’m fine, Luca.” It took him a while to answer the other’s question, which confirmed his suspicion.
Shu Yamino was definitely not fine.
Luca hummed, seeing through the lie he had just given him. “I’m coming over, okay? I’ll be there in a few minutes.” The blond said in a soft voice, careful with his words and tones so as to not tense the latter. “I’ll bring you ice cream.”
Shu let out a small chuckle through the other side of the phone. “I’ll see you in a bit then,” he replied, “thank you, Luca.” After that line, the other heard a beep, signifying that the call had ended.
Luca huffed and instantly got out of his chair, turning off his computer in the process. He grabbed his phone and strolled downstairs to his kitchen to grab the promised ice cream, before going outside and starting his car.
The air was cold around him as night had already long fallen. The stars shone brightly, whilst the moon lit up the streets of their neighborhood. Shu was not far from him, but since he sounded desperate of help, Luca upped his speed to fasten his travel, but enough to refrain from going past the limit.
After a few minutes, he had finally reached the destination. Going out of his car to ring the doorbell, waiting for a certain brunette to answer it.
Hearing light footsteps coming from inside the house, the handle of the door opened with a clack, revealing his friend. “Luca!” The latter exclaimed happily, moving out of the way to invite him in.
They made their way into the kitchen to unpack the food Luca brought. “Sorry, Shu,” he sighed as he placed down the tub of ice cream, “we ran out of banana flavored and only had vanilla left.”
A breathy laugh escaped Shu’s pink lips. “It’s fine,” He replied, grabbing the flavored cream, “I like vanilla too.” He smiled, before both males made their way towards the bedroom.
“You wanna watch something?” Shu asked the latter, who sat down on his bed. “No, not really. How about you?” Luca gave back the same question, the shorter male shaking his head in response. “I just wanna lay down for now.”
The brunette suddenly had a barely visible melancholic expression on his face, that did not go unnoticed by Luca. As Shu was about to take a bite out of the ice cream he scooped on his spoon, the blond opened his mouth. “So,” he started, making the other stop his actions and froze in place, as if already expecting what the latter had to say. “What’s bothering you?” The question was finally asked.
Shu let out a small huff and shook his head once more. “Nothing I-” he stuttered with a pause,”I’m fine, don’t worry about me.” He managed to form a small smile on his clearly trembling lips.
It took a while for Luca to respond to the reply, but Shu didn’t dare to look at him and just continued to eat the ice cream; knowing he would break down just by the sight of his friend’s face. But, after a while, he heard a small sigh of – what sounded like sympathy.
“You’ve said that lie already, Shu.”
And just like that, almost instantly, a tear fell down the brunette’s soft face, followed by a whole river of them. Luca was startled at the sudden action at first, but took initiative fast, grabbing the tub of ice cream and placing it on the table beside them. He pulled the latter in into a warm hug and let him soak his clothes with the mist of his soft yet choking sobs.
No sentences were said throughout the time, not one word was even uttered. Both sat in silence, only the weeps of his friend were heard echoing around the cold room.
But after a while, his cries started to gradually become quieter, until only small sniffs and hiccups escaped his mouth. Still gripping tightly to the blond, he buried his head deeper onto his chest, pulling them closer and closer to each other.
Letting out a shaky sigh, he pulled back and wiped his tears. “Sorry, I kinda cried all over your shirt.” He sniffled in a breath, his cheeks slowly tainting pink from embarrassment, but the latter just chuckled softly. “It’s fine,” he replied, turning his head slightly down to look at his now soaked top, “I like it soggy.”
Shu’s eyes widened, before his lips slowly curved into a grin, struggling to hold back his laugh, until he finally gave in and bursted into tears of joy.
Now it was Luca’s turn to get flustered. “W-why are you laughing!” He whined, a soft yet barely visible blush spread across his face. Although he asked Shu to stop laughing at him, he can’t help but feel some sort of easiness with his sounds. Until Luca found himself smiling and laughing along as well; the room slowly being engulfed by their noises.
They joked around for a good few minutes, before it soon died down. “At Least I made you laugh.” Luca grinned with eyes closed.
Shu returned back the smile and let out one last giggle. “Yeah?” He huffed and rolled his eyes playfully.
They fell silent for a while, sitting there with an oddly yet comforting peace and quietness. There were no words said, no feelings expressed – just two boys enjoying each other’s company.
Until Luca had an idea in mind. “You have a guitar here right, Shu?” He asked, sitting up from his once laid down position. Shu sat up with him and nodded, tilting his head onto the side. “Yeah, but I don’t really use it much.” He replied, standing up to get the guitar that was placed on a stand.
“Here,” the brunette handed the instrument towards the latter, “what do you need it for though?” He asked.
The blond scoffed light-heartedly and placed the guitar between his arms, his hands gently strumming the strings of the instrument. “To play songs, duh.” A soft laugh escaped his lips, as Shu let out an audible ‘oh’ and smiled along with him.

All too soon, without realizing it, time passed by. All too soon, the music slowly faded away. And all too soon, their visions closed as the night fell upon their hours, lullabying them to sleep.
