And they were roomates

Chapter 3: Love interests

Chapter Text

"Hey, I'm going out with Wanda today. Would you like to come?" You looked up from your painting with a sad frown, peitro was taken aback to find tears in your eyes. He glanced around your room to find scattered paint brushes and tubes, a broken canvas and several balled up pieces of paper. "Okay, you don't have a choice now. Go shower, I will pick you an outfit." You got up slowly, defeat screaming in your movements and facial features. He patted your back gently as you passed, a nurturing gesture you greatly appreciated.

When you finally stepped out of the shower you felt a million times better, and the sight of a simple yellow dress folded neatly on the toilet made you crack a smile. When you stepped out, Wanda was already in the living room.

"Pretty." She hummed, taking her time to rake her eyes down your outfit. When her eyes climbed back up to meet yours she smirked at the blush evident on your cheeks. "Sit, I'll fix your hair." Wanda sat on the couch, and pointed to the space between her legs. You shivered as her nails scratched against your scalp brushing through the damp pieces.

"Can you braid it back? It gives me a headache to have it up too tight." Wanda hummed lightly and began to work on braiding your hair in loose style.

"You continue to do that, and we will be carrying her to the fair." Pietro teased, causing Wanda to gently trace her fingers down your jawline and tilt your head back.

"You are light, but I do not wish for you to sleep on our outing." Your nose wrinkled and you stuck your tongue out at the woman.

"Fine, fine. Let me go find some shoes."

~

Your eyes lit up at the sight of the cotton candy booth, but before you could get too far two hands gripped you and pulled you back. Pietro's large hand was on your arm, while Wanda's had slipped in your hand lacing your fingers together. "What?" You whined, your eyes still trained on the colorful booth. "They have flower shaped ones!"

"I will give you your sugar mess, but you have to stay close." Wanda said softly, soothing some of your baby hairs when you turned to her. The act was so nurturing it nearly made you melt on the spot.

"Okay, should we do cotton candy first? It gives her a shit ton of energy."

"Please, please, pleasee?" You begged Wanda, like a small child. It was almost as if you forgot you were a grown adult, with grown adult money. Wanda laughed and placed her hand over your mouth.

"Yes, we can go get you your sugary mess. I will even buy it because you are cute."

"What about me? I am cute." He huffed. You licked Wanda's hand, but instead of the grimace you were expecting her eyes darkened. She licked her own lips and slowly pulled her hand from your mouth. She blinked a few times before shaking her head in amusement.

"Be careful little mouse, that's a dangerous game." She whispered before turning to her brother. "I will buy yours if you never pout like that again, it does not look good on you." Your face flushed red, and you let out a nervous laugh.

"C-come on, I don't want the line to get longer!" You pulled Wanda, realizing that she hadn't let go of your hand the entire time. Pietro's eyebrows raised as he stared at your conjoined hands.

You were so focused on the cotton candy, you didn't notice the familiar redhead standing in front of you. "Wands, can I have the yellow and pink flower?" You leaned back against her, your head pressed against her shoulder as her arm was slung around your shoulder, hands still conjoined.

"Sure sweets." Natasha's ears perked up at the sound of your voice, and Maria's grip on her hand tightened.

"Which will you get?"

"Hm, I will just get you the big one and steal bites. I don't need a whole one."

"I want the green one." Pietro piped in, and you had almost forgotten he was there. Wanda nodded, an easy going smile on her face.

"Sure, I will get you the green one. Will you go find a booth with water?" Pietro saluted her. Your eyes finally fell from the menu to in front of you just in time for Natasha to turn around. Her eyes scanned over the way Wanda was holding you, finally landing on your hands.

"Hi Natty." You spoke out lazily, not bothering to unravel yourself from Wanda. "Hi Maria." The brunette barely spared you a glance, instead choosing to cross her arms over her chest.

"What are you doing here?"

"Pietro made me come, I was stuck in frustration." Wanda wasn't paying much attention to the small talk going on between the two of you. "Wands is buying me cotton candy." The older woman glanced down at you at the mention of her name.

"How'd you manage that?"

"She begs so pretty." Wanda rasped out, pulling you tighter against her. You shivered at the sound, and Maria's eyebrows shot up in interest. You noticed her posture relaxed a little, and couldn't help but smile. Natasha's smile dropped into a scowl, it was her turn to cross her arms over her chest.

"Are you guys on a date?" Maria asked cautiously, ignoring the glare Natasha sent her. You flushed a deep red and spluttered while Wanda just grinned.

"I would not bring my brother along on a date, so no." You ignored the disappointment fluttering in your chest, and the way Natasha's eyes seemed to brighten. The redhead held out her arm, so on instinct you wiggled free from Wanda's embrace and into Natasha's.

"I haven't seen you in awhile, I've missed my little bug." She murmured into your hair, and you hummed in response.

"Mm sorry, I've been trying really hard to push out my next few paintings." When you stepped back Wanda immediately tugged you back into her embrace. This time her chin resting on your head as she held both arms around you.

"You look cozy." Pietro spoke up teasingly as he joined you back holding three bottles of water. You leaned forward as much as Wanda would allow and pressed a kiss to his cheek.

"Thank you!"

When you finally got to the front of the line, Wanda rattled off the order while your eyes were glued to the man spinning the candy. Your focus was broken though by Wanda tapping your jaw. "Hm?"

"Do you want edible glitter on it?"

"No Wands, don't add anything extra, it's already expensive." She hummed but didn't comment, her hand dropping to your shoulder. You zoned out again until a cone was being placed in your hand. You blinked a few times and realized Wanda had guided you out of line and brought you to a little picnic table.

"Are you alright?" She asked as she plucked a piece of cotton from the cone. "Open." You flushed red but dutifully opened your mouth. Wanda's eyes stayed focused on the candy melting on your tongue.

"Hi, if you could stop eye fucking and pay attention to the reason you are both here that would great." You looked over at Pietro, and noticed he was starting to genuinely get upset.

"I'm sorry Pete." You said softly, switching sides to sit next to your roommate. Wanda looked a little irritated but didn't say anything, just plastered a soft smile on her face. Her smile soon turned genuine when her brother asked you about your latest painting.

"Gosh, I don't know why I'm struggling so hard. You'd think a field of sunflowers would be easy, but something Is missing. It's looking too generic…too yellow." You placed your head on Pietro's shoulder while you spoke, picking off pieces of candy and occasionally offering some to Wanda.

"Maybe adding more color would help? Remember when you were struggling with that raccoon piece so you turned the red-lights on and picked random colors? It could add a fun twist to the flowers."

"I dunno, I feel like the yellows are too close together. I'd be straining my eyes."

"What if Pietro and I chose your colors? We could each substitute something we think would work and give you a completely new pallet."

"Hm maybe?" You shrugged, your mind whirling with the new possibilities. Wanda reached over and brushed some hair from your face and tucked it behind your ear.

"Don't think so much, I'm sorry we brought up the topic that was stressing you." You leaned into her touch, your eyes fluttering close as her palm rested against your cheek.

"S'okay, you bought me sugar."

"Okay, we should head over to the rides before it gets too crowded." As soon as you stood Wanda was by your side slipping  her hand into yours. You leaned up on your toes and pressed a chaste kiss to the corner of her mouth.

"Thank you for the candy."

"Hey-"

"Shut up, I kissed you for water." You huffed, a little annoyed at his antics. He didn't need to call you out every few minutes.

"Not that close-" you flipped around and grabbed his cheeks planting an overly dramatic kiss to his lips.

"There you big baby, now stop hovering over me and your sister." When you turned back to Wanda her jaw was clenched, and her arms crossed. Your stomach sank when she didn't reach for your hand. Pietro's mood seemed to be lifted, and he practically skipped towards the rides. "Wands?" You asked hesitantly, nervously standing a few feet away. "Are you mad at me?"

"No." She sighed and relaxed her posture but still didn't reach for you. Once Wanda caught sight of your lost frown she decided to bite the bullet. Before you could even react Wanda was grabbing your cheeks and pulling you into a kiss. Unlike the one you shared with Pietro you melted into the kiss. A soft moan escaped your throat when Wanda swiped her tongue against your lip asking for entrance. You didn't give in, instead pulling away with a startled gasp. Your eyes were wide and your chest was heaving as you stared at her.

"I-what- huh?" Instead of explaining she simply walked away to join her brother.

~

"So I've been thinking about our kiss." Pietro stated when he heard you leave your room. You don't even remember getting home, let alone falling asleep. You froze when your brain finally processed what he said.

"Oh, Pietro.." you whispered softly, your heart sinking in your chest. He seemed to not pick up on your solemn tone as he continued.

"It was short and sweet I know, but it gave me a glimpse of what could be."

"Pete-"

"The fair would have been a perfect first date but since we brought Wanda we-"

"Pietro!" You raised your voice to catch his attention. His smile began to fade when he noticed the tears in your eyes. "Pete…I'm so sorry. I like someone else."

"Oh. Okay." He nodded and turned abruptly to pour himself some coffee.

"Pete.." you whispered sadly, watching as he began to retreat to his room. "Pietro."

"Hey, it's okay. You can't help how you feel, and you don't owe me anything. I see you kiss Natasha and Kate all of the time, I don't know why I thought- it doesn't matter. I just need a little bit of space okay?"

"Okay..I'm going to leave for a little while okay? Don't feel like you have to stay in your room." He nodded, a small frown on his face.

~

"Okay wait, how did she kiss you?" Kate asked softly, rubbing your back in an effort at comfort. Yelena sat across from you, her frown deepening with each word.

"I- she grabbed me and kissed me! I don't know how to explain it." You sighed, sagging down further into the couch. "It made me feel like Natasha used to." You whispered, tensing when you heard the soft gasp come from the doorway. You didn't have to look up to know the redhead had come home. "I have to go." You muttered quickly, dodging Kate's hands reaching for you.

Strong arms gripped your shoulders, and soon you were staring into the scarily intense green eyes of your ex girlfriend. Before you could beg to be let go, familiar lips were on yours. You gave into her out of guilt, shakily bringing your hands up to cup her cheeks.

"Tell me you didn't feel anything." She whispered after she pulled away, resting her forehead against yours. You let out a choked sob before burying your face into her neck. "Tell me." Natasha's broken whisper came in your ear again. Despite the stiffness in her shoulders and back, her arms were still wrapped tight around you.

"Natasha.."

"What do you want me to do? Get on my knees and beg?" You flinched at the sudden loudness in her voice. Her nails dug into your hips as she dropped to her knees and stared up at you.

"Natasha, that's enough." Yelena spoke harshly, the only thing stopping her from jerking you away from the redhead was Kate's arm around her. Natasha ignored his sister and continued to stare up at you, crying freely now.

"Please, we can try again! I'll do whatever you want! I love you!" You closed your eyes and let out a shaky breath. Natasha pressed her face into your stomach, and sobbed. You placed your hand on her head, nails lightly scratching at her scalp In an effort to calm her.

"What about Maria?"

"I don't like her even a fraction of what I love you. You are mine."

"Natty.."

"Say it." Instead you slowly got on your knees to be level with Natasha, your hands cupping her cheeks and forcing her to look at you. "Say it." She begged again. You swiped away her tears with your thumbs, silently taking in every feature on her face like it was the last time you'd ever see her.

"I've always hated seeing you cry, but I can't deny how pretty you look." You murmured lost in thought. "You are so pretty Natasha, you could love anyone in the world a million times better than me."

"There's No one better than you."

"You're wrong, my love." You whispered before leaning in to give her a final chaste kiss. "Give Maria a chance, okay? For me, okay? Give her a chance for me." Natasha nodded solemnly.

"Okay." You pressed one last kiss to her cheek before standing and making your way to the door. You didn't know where you were going, but you had to get away before the dam broke. As soon as the door closed you ran, ran as fast as you could go.

~

"Where have you been?? I've called, and I even had Wanda calling you!" Pietro yelled out as soon as you stepped foot in the door. You didn't have any time to process before he was grabbing you and squeezing you tight. "We were worried sick y/n. She's out right now looking for you."

"I can't find her, did you try calling her again?" As if on cue Wanda stomped in the apartment. The panic was loud in her voice, and it took you calling her name for her to finally realize you were standing right in front of her.

"Wanda, it's okay." You said gently, not daring to move from an emotional Pietro. "I'm sorry, my phone must be on silent." You opened one arm, grunting when Wanda barreled into you.

"I searched everywhere- I- Kate said you had left and nobody could get ahold of you."

"I'm sorry, I needed some time to think. I should have called."

"I'm glad you're okay." Pietro said softly, he gave you one last squeeze before stepping back. Your earlier rejection still weighed heavily on his heart. After a little bit of prodding from her brother, Wanda stepped back.

"Were you crying?" She asked softly, taking in your puffy eyes and the remnants of your smeared makeup.

"It's not important."

"Come on, we'll have a little girl talk." Piero wanted to scoff and roll his eyes.why couldn't you talk to him? Realistically he knew, and that's why he held back. He knew it was easier to relax with the same gender. Hell, There are things he told his guy friends he wouldn't dream of telling you. He knew it was innocent on Wanda's part, but couldn't help the budding jealousy as he watched you grow closer to his sister. Especially since it felt like the two of you were growing apart.

"Have you eaten?" Pietro was snapped out of his thoughts when he realized you were talking to him. He shook his head dumbly, for some reason unable to speak. "After we can go get something? The three of us." He nodded, a small smile on his face. You weren't pushing him away.

Wanda tugged you towards your room, and as soon as the door closed she was enveloping you in a tight hug. "I was so scared you were hurt." She whispered, your heart clenching at her tone.

"I'm okay." You mumbled, muffled by her chest.

"Clearly not, what's got you so upset?"

"Natasha did not make it easy to reject her. It would be so easy just to give in to her."

"Why didn't you?" You glanced away, your cheeks flushing red as her simple question bounced around in your head. Wanda was patient as she waited for you to answer.

"That's not so easy to answer." You finally said after a few moments of silence. Wanda guided you to your bed, and placed her hand on your thigh after you were seated. "It's long and complicated."

"I have all night." You blew out a breath, staring at the ground as you readied yourself to talk about it.

"Natasha has had a hard life, and love doesn't come easy to her. We became toxic to each other, with her not being able to understand her emotions and with me getting tired of being on the back burner." You paused to wipe your eyes. Wanda gently tugged you into her side, guiding your head to lay on her shoulder. "I love her so much, but I refuse to put myself through that hell again. It hurt so much to watch her literally beg on her knees."

"You are incredibly strong." Wanda murmured as she ran her fingers through your hair. "I wasn't there when all that happened with Natasha, but I am so proud of you." You looked up at her through your lashes, you didn't even realize how close you were until Wanda closed the gap. Your eyes fluttered shut and you leaned into her, allowing her to take control of the kiss.

"Wanda.." her name was a breathless whisper on your lips, any other thoughts were cut off by her lips trailing down your jaw.

"Do you know how hard it is to resist you? Natasha is a fool for not treating you a quarter of what you deserve." When you let your eyes open again you were staring at the ceiling, at some point Wanda had shifted you onto your back.

"Stop resisting." A low chuckle emitted from Wanda sending a wave of heat through you. When Wanda came into view she had her bottom lip trapped between her teeth and her eyes were dark. Your hands came up to her hips as she straddled your waist.

"Don't tell me that, I will ravish you right here." She leaned down and nipped lightly just below your ear. "I want to do things right first, I want to take you on dates that will sweep you off your feet. I want to make you fall in love with me." Wanda pulled back and gave one last chaste kiss to your lips.

"So ask me on a date."

"Will you go on a date with me tomorrow night?"

"If you promise to kiss me again." You couldn't help but smile against her lips. Your teeth clashing uncomfortably for a moment but you couldn't care less. The longer Wanda kissed you, the faster your worries slipped away.

"Y/n, we have to stop." You let out a breathy laugh as her lips attached to your neck. Your hips picked up when Wanda found your pulse. Your hands dipped underneath her shirt, and just as you reached her ribcage a loud knock sounded on the door.

"Hey, not to rush your emotions or anything but I'm starving!" Pietro called out, and Wanda jumped back suddenly, snapping back to reality.

"Fuck y/n, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to get carried away."

"You got carried away?" You asked softly, raising your eyebrow and tapping your fingers against her ribs. Wanda laughed.

"Okay, we got carried away. I meant it when I said I wanted to sweep you off your feet first."

"Kissing me senseless is a great start."  you tapped her thigh just as another knock came.

"Is she okay wanda?"

"I'm fine Pete! We're coming!" Wanda snorted and you erupt into laughter. Thankfully when an impatient head poked into your room Wanda had rolled off next to you.
