Going in with everything they had was a very sound military strategy. It was no wonder that it was one occasionally adopted by the 212th Attack Battalion. Even though General Kenobi tended to go for a more changeable and less predictable approach, Commander Cody often saw the merits in the straightforward tactic.
To go in with everything he had was certainly a good way to approach his life. He went into his training with everything he had, the same with serving with General Kenobi. And there was no doubt that he certainly went in kicking and punching clankers with everything he had.
So, it was only to be expected that he also went at the other areas of his life with the same all or nothing approach. Particularly the parts of his life that involved General Kenobi.
Once Cody had realised exactly what that tingly feeling he got whenever he looked at General Kenobi was (possibly with a little help from Rex and Fox), he had decided to approach his General in his established manner.
Confidently. Subtly. Not acting until he knew whether or not his feelings might be reciprocated.
He took his time, spending possibly too much time around his General and then too little. He had to check and see if the way the General acted around him was the same way the other Jedi Generals acted around their Commanders.
With the exception of General Secura and Commander Bly and possibly also the more paternal way General Koon viewed that crazy kriffer Wolffe, Cody observed that they did not. Even General Skywalker's almost brotherly relationship with Rex was different to the way General Kenobi treated Cody.
And he knew for a fact that no other General called their Commander my dear.
If they did, they certainly didn't do it in the middle of a firefight like a certain ginger General Cody was bucket over boots for.
When Cody was almost certain that his General felt the same way - the way he called him my dear grew more tender every day - Cody decided to act on it.
With everything he had.
Like any good soldier, he picked his moment; waiting, planning until the moment he and the General were alone and less likely to be interrupted.
Like the secret romantic he was, Cody engineered the situation so he and the General (really he ought to be thinking of him as Obi-Wan, given his plans) could be alone on the observation deck.
The atmosphere was, if he said so himself, almost perfect.
The windows showed the typical blue-white blur of hyperspace, lighting up the otherwise dark room in a way that could almost call to mind candles. He had ordered a few suitably terrified shinies (including the rookie who was just a little too taken with his Jedi) to set up a small table and chairs by the largest window.
On that table, Cody had put the tea service Obi-Wan had given him, along with his General's favourite tea that was almost impossible to come by.
(He owed Fox big time, he admitted it.)
Cody arrived on the observation deck a few minutes early, preparing the tea and making sure the shinies hadn't kriffed up the simple job he had given them. Then, he stood by the window, waiting for Obi-Wan to join him.
A sharp intake of breath greeted his ears as Obi-Wan strolled onto the deck. His bright blue eyes widened, flickering from Cody to the table and back again.
"Good evening, General," Cody greeted warmly, letting Obi-Wan approach him.
He might be almost certain of Obi-Wan's feelings but that didn't mean Cody wanted to risk scaring him away.
Obi-Wan's smile was almost brighter than the light of hyperspace, elegant fingers trailing gently over the table. "Good evening, my dear."
Cody raised the teapot, smiling at the fond way Obi-Wan was watching him. "Tea?"
"Yes please, Cody," Obi-Wan replied, taking the seat Cody pointed to. "It smells delicious."
"It ought to," Cody sighed. "This little box of dried leaves put me in debt to Fox for the rest of my life."
Obi-Wan's legendary eyebrow raised, a playful glimmer appearing in his crystalline eyes. "Really?" he hummed, taking an appreciative sip of tea. "I hope it was worth it."
"Oh, it certainly was," Cody agreed, savouring his own sip of tea.
He could tell why Obi-Wan liked it so much. It had a rich, full flavour with just a tantalising hint of spice.
Cody would rather drink caff than tea any day, but this really was quite nice.
Cody sat opposite his General, quite content for now just to let Obi-Wan enjoy his tea. That was okay, he'd factored that into his plans.
Obi-Wan could get quite grumpy if someone interrupted him when he was enjoying his tea.
Although, Cody wasn't quite sure if Obi-Wan was enjoying the tea more than he was staring at Cody.
There was such a look of quiet wonder on his face, Cody had to restrain himself so he could stick to his plan.
He was a Marshal Commander of the Grand Army of the Republic. He could watch Obi-Wan stare at him with gentle affection and barely concealed anticipation without leaping across the table and kissing him senseless.
He was stronger than that.
He had a plan.
And by the stars he would follow it.
Cody relaxed on his chair, gazing lovingly at Obi-Wan like the bucket over boots Trooper that he was.
He waited, patiently, until that damn tease - he meant the very probable love of his life - had finished every last drop of his tea.
(Cody had sat through many meetings with the Jedi, it had never taken him this long to drink a single cup of tea!)
When Obi-Wan sat back with his hands folded before him, sighing contentedly, Cody enacted the final stage of his plan.
Cody knelt by his Jedi's left side, meeting Obi-Wan's soft gaze with his own. His right hand moved to cup the side of Obi-Wan's face, thumb stroking under his eye as Obi-Wan leaned into the contact.
Then, when even he couldn't stand the tension any more, Cody slowly leaned in and pressed his lips to Obi-Wan's.
Obi-Wan's lips were soft and pliant under his own, the Jedi humming contentedly while they both explored the new sensations.
Cody couldn't help his happy hum in reply.
There might not have been the fireworks described in Wooley's trashy holonovels, but there was something better.
Kissing Obi-Wan was like finding the one thing that had been missing his whole life. Kissing Obi-Wan was like finally finding his home.
And Cody was certain that he had.
