“—I don’t want this anymore. I can’t keep waiting around for you to figure out whether you want me or not.”
“It’s not a matter of figuring it out. I know what I want: I want you.”
“Then be with me.”
Her eyes drifted down to his throat; he swallowed in response.
“It’s not that simple.”
“It never was.”
The subway doors opened, humid air rushing in, curling around the evening crowd like an eager lover.
One of them stepped out of the subway car onto the platform. The other watched them leave.
Both had tears in their eyes.
