Chapter 3: This Isn’t Goodbye, This is simply See You Later - Mysta Rias

Notes:

If you’re wondering what this will mean for the fic, I will sadly no longer include Mysta in the next few chapters. I may reference him every now and then but he will no longer be part of the upcoming chapters. I know I only have him in the first two and I really wish I’d written more but due to my busy schedule, I wasn’t able to find the time to write and that was a mistake on my part. But even if Mysta is gone, Luxiem will forever be five to me, no one could ever replace him 🧡.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

“Okay, so how are we going to do this?” Mysta asked. The two of you decided to use your lunch break to work on the presentation for next week assigned by your teacher. “Hm, we can research our topic first,” you say, writing down in your notebook. “We can research together. Then we can work on the presentation afterward once we got all the info–”

*BOOM*

The loud booming of thunder cut off Mysta’s words. “Looks like the storm is just getting worse,” Mysta says, looking out the window as the rain pours. “Yeah, I really hope it stops soon…,” you hope. The two of you continued discussing your project as the rain continued pouring. “Great! Now that we have a fleshed-out plan. We just need to execute it. Hm…,” you stared at your notebook, going over the plan you have for the presentation. Then suddenly, as if a lightbulb went off in your head, you had a great idea. “How about you come over to my place? We can work together there and maybe even finish early!” Mysta’s eyes widened at your proposal. “S-Sure! Though, are you sure it’s okay? I don’t want to intrude on anything. Are your parents okay with it?” he asked as you shook your head, happily(?).

“Nope! Well, I mean nope as in, you won’t be intruding at all. As for my parents…well, they don’t know. I’m gonna ask them later today when I get home!”

You’ve never had friends over at your house so you were very excited. There was still one thing left: How would you let Mysta know if your parents allowed it? Then it hit you.

“Mysta!”

“Yeah?”

“Wanna trade numbers?” you ask, smiling as you rummage through your bag for your phone. “That way, we can keep in touch and I can tell you if my parents are fine with having you over!” you finally found your phone. Mysta was taken aback by your impulsiveness and energetic attitude but at the same time, he found it endearing.

“Sure! Sounds great, here’s my number.”

The two of you swapped phones, encoding each other’s numbers. “Perfect! Now, we can message each other about the project and update each other on our progress!” You say gleefully.

“And…done!”

The two of you finally finished your PowerPoint for your history presentation. The scripts and researching were finally all taken care of and all you had to do now was rehearse. “Okay, I’ll go first introducing the two of us and then you start off the topic,” you tell Mysta who was browsing the script. “Alright, got it. Should we practice now?” He asks, to which you nodded. “Sure! And 3, 2, 1!”

“That is all, thank you,” Mysta says closing the presentation, earning applause from the class. “A job well done, Mr. Rias and Mx. (L/N). You will receive your presentation grades by the end of this week, and so will the rest of the class. Now…Mr. Ovid and Mr. Violeta,” your history teacher comments before the two of you take your seats. “Great job! We should celebrate after classes! Are you free?” You say, beaming. Mysta, taken aback, blushes a little embarrassed. “Yeah, where do you wanna celebrate?” he asks, smiling a little. “Hmm…oh, there’s this ice cream shop nearby, they have the best chocolate parfaits! Does that sound good?” you say, still giddy. Mysta smiles back, he loves chocolate.

“Sounds great!”

“Perfect, let’s meet up after our classes and we can go together!”

As promised, the two of you met up at the school’s entrance and walked to the ice cream shop: Millie Sorbetes. You ordered two chocolate parfaits, one for you and the other for your classmate before sitting on the booth by the window. “So, how’s your day?” You asked, trying to keep up the good energy, Mysta tilted his head a little. “Pretty meh. It was alright, but after we finished that presentation, felt a whole lot better,” he said. “Same here, but hey,” you say, before turning to him. “Even if we’re not partners anymore, I still wanna get to know you. As a friend, y’know?” you say. Soon enough, the parfaits came. “Two chocolate parfaits,” the waitress sets the two desserts on the table before nodding and walking away. “Mmh, they look so good!” you smiled, Mysta looking at you endearingly.

“Okay then.”

“What?” You asked.

“I’d love to be your friend, (Y/N),” he says smiling. Your starry-eyed smile would not leave your face. “Yes! Okay, so what do you like to do for fun?” The two of you went on and on about your interests and hobbies, up until the ice cream shop closed.

A few months later

You stood at the bus stop, waiting quietly as Mysta stood next to you. You gripped your backpack tightly and looked to your right, Mysta checking his watch before turning to you with a smile. “Time sure flies, huh?” he says, sighing. You nod, taking a shaky deep breath.

“It really does….”

You tried your best to hold the tears in your eyes. “Another city, huh?” you say, trying to remain as chipper as usual. “Hey, now. Don’t cry, okay? I already told you why I needed to move and I know you are strong. The city is just an hour away, we’ll probably see each other along the way,” Mysta reassures.

“Just promise me one thing, okay?”

He intertwines his pinky with yours, “Don’t forget me.” The tears fell down your face at last, as you smile brightly once again. “I…I promise!” you hugged Mysta close as he hugged you back, wrapping his arms around you in a tight squeeze.

His bus finally arrived.

“Well, that’s me. I’ll see you around, (Y/N).”

He boarded the bus, luggage in tow. You see him sitting by the window before waving at you, and you wave back. “I’ll see you around, Mysta.”

Notes:

This was incredibly rushed. I didn’t see this coming at all, none of us did. As of publishing this, he is still streaming his last stream. I don’t think words can fully explain how much of an impact Mysta has had on me. When I say that Mysta has gotten me through tough times, he got me through the WORST burnout I’ve ever had during my senior high school years. I am now a first-year college student and the lessons he has taught me about doing what I love and how it is never too late to do the things you love, have stuck with me to this day. I don’t know if he will read this, or see this but on the INCREDIBLY minuscule chance he sees this, thank you for everything you have done, Mysta. You have made such an impact in the Vtubing community and all around the world, and we have never been more grateful. We hope we cross paths in the next city, thank you and we’ll see you around Mysta 🧡
