Chapter Text
They think I'm insane, they think my lover is strange
The more days passed, the less everyone was looking at you. You still heard some people whisper that you were insane for dating someone like Eddie Munson but soon enough there was new drama and new rumors and it was like they were washing away everything that had to do with you and Eddie.
The beginning had been hard, to hear people joking about you, bumping into you on purpose to make fun of you but Eddie had kept you above the dangerous waters of your anxiety.
You were still focused on graduation so you could get out of here. He had promised you late at night that he would take as many jobs as needed to pay for your college. He would support you in any way and you were so thankful for that because it would be rough.
From your nosy neighbor you had learned that your father still hadn’t calmed down and had even considered calling the cops on Eddie but then refrained from doing so. You wondered if he planned to stay mad for the rest of his life and if he had already removed you from his last will.
Your former friends didn’t pay any attention to you nowadays but you were thankful for it. Rachel had tried to talk to you one more time but it was just more venom coming from her mouth so you cut her off completely. Jason had threatened Eddie a couple of times but as soon as he realized that his threats were going nowhere he stopped and left you two alone.
“Earth to Y/N, hello?” you heard the voice next to you and you looked at Dustin’s grinning face. “Your turn.”
Right. You were in the middle of combat, you shouldn’t get distracted. “Sorry, zoned out for a moment, what happened?”
“Oh nothing much, just half your party already getting smoked by the dragon and it’s just you and Henderson standing now,” Eddie said with a big grin from behind his DM screen, mischief in his eyes.
You blinked at the table a few times and swallowed. The dragon had really taken out everyone but the two of you. “What are we gonna do?” you asked the boy next to you and he put on his thinking face.
“Six seconds, you know the rules,” Eddie said and got up from his chair briefly before sitting down crossed legged again. It almost looked like he was about to crawl onto the desk out of pure excitement and anticipation.
“I guess you just have to go for it,” Dustin said with a sigh and you took your dice.
“You can do it,” Mike said from the other side of you and you took a deep breath, looking straight at Eddie when you rolled your dice.
“Yes!” Dustin almost yelled into your ear next to you and you opened your eyes that you had closed without realizing it. Natural 20.
“But is it going to be enough to even hit the great dragon that’s already breathing in, about to burn you to ashes?” Eddie chirmed and you started to do the math in your head, adding all the modifiers you could to your attack. You had a magic weapon, buffs and the natural 20 on your side. You had to hit to save your friends. Real friends.
You swallowed hard when you looked up from your character sheet. “33.”
“Roll for damage, my love.” Hit.
The others were already cheering on you as you took your dice for damage rolls. You had no idea how many hit points the dragon had left but you knew from the round before that he was already bleeding heavily so it couldn’t be too much anymore. Hopefully.
The dice was falling, rolling over the table almost painfully slow. You winced when you noticed you didn’t roll too well and the boys went quiet next to you. You quickly added all modifiers in your head, your eyes not leaving Eddie’s.
“30 points of damage.”
Silence was settling down in the room as Eddie looked at you, then at his notes behind the screen. He got up from his chair.
“You run up to the dragon of old just as he lowers his head. You see how he breathes in deeply and you can hear the fire crackling inside of his throat. Just when he opens his mouth your sword connects with his neck.” A dramatic pause as he reached over the table to where your character figures were standing in front of a gigantic dragon.
You felt the hair at the back of your neck going up, your body starting to shake in anticipation. He was going to knock over one of the figures now, either yours or the dragons.
“And you slice his throat right open. Blood splatters all over you but all the dragon can do is choke on his own blood and the fire inside of him.”
With that he knocked down the figure of the dragon and you were left standing in front of its dead body.
Tik. Tok.
The clock took a few beats before the whole group broke out in cheers, running up to you to hug you, almost squishing you and yet, you couldn’t take your eyes off of Eddie. His proud smile was only meant for you.
“Well done, princess.”
You couldn’t stop talking about the session your whole ride home. You were absolutely hyped, so you didn’t even notice the look he was giving you.
A look so full of pride and love, one that would melt your knees in an instant if you would see it.
“You’re the best thing that ever happened to me.”
You stopped talking as soon as you heard his voice and turned to him. Only then you noticed how his dark brown eyes were looking at you and it felt like your heart would jump right out of your chest. And his smile. God his smile. It was so beautiful and pure.
People had a lot to say about Eddie Munson. They called him a freak. A drug dealer. A bum. A low life. Too dumb to finish school. Someone that wasn’t worth breathing the air around him. Someone who danced with the devil at night. One to support satanic rituals and played that evil, evil game. That he was strange and absolutely insane.
Which also made you insane in their eyes, loving a man like him, but you’d gladly be called insane as long as you could be with him.
His kind of insanity and strangeness were the ones you wanted to drown in voluntarily.
