Summary
Umino Iruka, useless son of Shimura Danzo, was good for one thing, and one thing only - a political marriage. Handed off to Sir Hatake Kakashi to ensure his service as a warrior for the Shimura family, Iruka knew the man as his husband for only one night before he rode off to fight demons for the glory of the empire.
Now, Hatake is back, a lauded hero of the Demon Campaign. With his newfound fame, Hatake could easily divorce Iruka, and have anyone he wants - even the Emperor's own son. There's no way he would still want Iruka.
So then why has he come to collect Iruka now, when he was content to leave him without a word three long years ago?

Iruka stared at the angry man standing before him, dazzled by the bright sunlight and the revelation Hatake had just handed him. “Should have been?” he asked, confused.
“Did I not send escorts? Multiple escorts?; And yet you refused to leave.” Hatake’s eyes flashed.
Iruka understood, then. His father never wanted Iruka to be seen, particularly in situations he couldn’t twist to suit his own ends. Sending Iruka to another lord’s domain would have made it harder to exert his will (would have given Iruka the chance to finally escape his clutches). Of course Danzo had sent Hatake’s escorts away. Iruka hadn’t even known they existed, or he surely would have gone with them! But how could he explain such a thing to Hatake? He was already well aware of how weak and foolish he seemed. Admitting to such weakness, that his father had kept him trapped, had not allowed him to know about any of the goings-on around the castle? It would just prove his ignorance and uselessness, giving Hatake yet another reason to divorce him.
“I need my father’s permission-” Iruka tried to explain, but Hatake cut him off with a growl.
“We are married,” he snarled. “You no longer belong to your father. You belong to me.” He seized Iruka’s hand again, and began marching down the steps towards the carriage. “I shouldn’t have needed to come here in person to remind you of that.”
