Bronze, Silver, Gold

Chapter 4: Onyx (Epilogue)

Summary:

Kagome wakes up to her lover.

Chapter Text

Kagome… Something seems to be echoing in the black of Kagome’s mind. Kagome, love. Wake up.

Kagome doesn’t want to. She can’t remember why someone would be doing something so rude as rousing her after—after…

Babe, you sounded like you were screaming.” The feminine voice finally breaks through the sleep haze.

Kagome finally opens her eyes, and regards the curtains of onyx hair that always seems to be perfectly in place, even when her wife has only just lifted her head from the pillow. It’s always been entirely unfair how unearthly beautiful Kikyō is in the morning. Her eyes are always bright and awake, free of sleep. Her hair looks out of a magazine centerpiece, while Kagome’s own bedhead defies physics. Kikyō also never seems to drool or get pillow lines or snore.

All things Kagome does in bulk.

“Unnnnhhhhh…” Kikyō also is perfectly articulate first thing in the morning. Kagome is not.

The vibrant images of bronze, silver, and gold are evaporating into her subconscious as she stares back at Kikyō, whose rose lips have curled into an amused smile. She’s unfairly beautiful.

“Bad dreams?” Kikyō finally asks, and lifts her hand to brush Kagome’s hair out of her eyes.

“Not exactly,” Kagome deflects; she doesn’t think it wise to speak in detail about her fading fantasies. No, it’s best to put those fantasies to use.

Kikyō lets out a squeak as Kagome leans forward and captures her lips. She probably has morning breath, probably acting out of character, but Kagome doesn’t care.

Truly good dreams deserve to be celebrated in the light of day after all. And Kikyō really is the most beautiful woman Kagome has ever seen, especially first thing in the morning.
