thank you for reading! this is the first long fanfic i've written and one of the first fanfics i've written since i was literally a child. the fic this reminds me of the most is a Lord of the Rings gay rescripting I wrote and made friends do a table read with me in the band room in high school. i love how OFMD has brought so many people back into writing. as a writing professor (ughhh) it makes me so happy.
sometimes the urge to write in this AU hits me hard. as of 5/26/22 i already have an izzy/ed backstory waiting in the wings. i'm sure i'll wake up at 4am and have to write something about these characters again. i hope you'll read those too.
some commenters have suggested some arrangements of particular media in this fic, so i may also add a few chapters with arrangements of stuff later on (e.g., stede's tweets, so you can read them as ed reads them)

It was a wild ride writing this fic and I've written a lot more in this AU since. If you liked it I hope you will check out/bookmark the rest of the series, which I ended up calling North Star, in reference to Minnesota's state motto.

The Tender Gesture Says: It's 1987, and Izzy is finishing college, writing a paper about Barthes's Lovers' Discourse, and pondering his love for Ed. Most mixed media of the bunch, with annotated selections from the readings and outlines of his term paper.
Close Cuts:In 1997, Izzy is starting T. He runs into Ed at Jackie's Place, and then they head home for some chest play involving needles--mind the tags.
With the Birds I'll Share This Lonely View: Izzy is recovering from top surgery in 1999 with Ed by his side.
