Chapter Text
In the small house Shouto and Izuku shared, the living room sat in a state of emptiness. The lights were off and there was nobody in sight, but it was far from abandoned; barely any dust could be seen on the polished tables and the blankets for the sofa had been freshly folded.
This was normal on the whole; it was hard for them to be home with their busy careers as heroes, but what was abnormal was the photo album laying open on the coffee table.
Just earlier today the two had been flipping through it, experiencing their lives all over again; their school days, their hero work, festivals they attended and dates they went on. Their wedding, their anniversaries, all of it was documented in full detail within its well worn pages.
They didn’t read it together often, but when they did it was something so, so special.
The two had needed something special today.
Midway between two ships at the port, Shouto stood with Izuku, hands gripped in his tightly. The early morning sun blazed behind them casting shadows down the concrete where they stood, and Shouto willed them to stay even after they left to solidify the moment in time.
“Do we really have to do this?” He said, already knowing the answer. It wouldn’t be long they had to be apart, he hoped, but hero missions were always unpredictable. Then again, he always had faith in Izuku’s power as he had in his, so he truly shouldn’t have been worried. Still, after all this time, he feared the extended absence.
Izuku smiled his heroic smile, though he still struggled to mask the emotion in his eyes. “We have different skills for different places, at least that’s what they say. As much as I want to stay with you, we have to do this, don’t we?” Tearing up a little, he hugged Shouto with his arms around his waist. “We’ll be together sooner than you know it, then we can make so many more memories, okay?”
As the ships they had to take bellowed behind them, Shouto pulled Izuku in tighter, trying to commit to memory how the moment had felt. “Yeah, we have so many more slots in our photo album to fill, and I can’t wait to make them with you. But for now, goodbye.”
