Chapter Text
Had never been easy for Shouto to get reprieve from his home life. Whenever he had something to do, whether it be recreational or not, his father always had his hand in it. And more often than not this meant that he never got the chance to celebrate festivities in public unless it was vital for his fathers public image; a façade of a family for cute photos in the papers.
Nowhere had this been more prevalent than the cherry blossom festival. Well maybe Christmas, and Shouto’s birthday, and… Okay, he was allowed to exaggerate! Either way, the closest he ever got outside of press events was watching the blossoms fall by his window, then having to work hard for hours to clean them off the patio; it’d never been fun, so he couldn’t say he was exactly a fan of the holiday.
However, things were different now. Being a residential student at U.A. meant he got to go on days out with his friends and no strings attached; the nightmare of his father nowhere in sight. He finally had a chance to be the child he never was, and today he was making the most of it by attending the cherry blossom festivity with Class 1.A. in a local park.
Setting up the picnic blankets was a nightmare with so many of them, though the quantity did mean that everybody brought plenty of delicious food; Sato the most so due to his undeniable baking prowess of which the class greatly appreciated.
However, as much as Shouto loved Sato’s sweet treats, he couldn’t help but direct his attention to what Izuku had brought. Sitting next to Shouto on the blanket he held a tupperware filled with cherry blossom mochi; wonky by all regards but still perfect in Shouto’s eyes! It didn’t matter that the rice formed deformed mounds, or that even the cherry leaves that wrapped them were carried in size; what mattered was that Izuku had made them with love in his heart.
Spending time like this with his boyfriend Izuku, and everybody else, was something he never thought he’d be able to do, and something he wouldn’t trade for the world.
