Work Text:
"You were so tiny, Jongin."
"So were you, hyung," Jongin chuckles, flipping the pages on the photo album.
Long has passed since these were taken. Each image a reminder of a friendship that began when both were still babies.
Looking down at the album, Jongin has an idea.
"Hey, have you seen that trend of people recreating their old photos? Let's do that."
Kyungsoo hesitates, making a face.
But before he can say no, Jongin suggests, "You can choose the picture."
That makes Kyungsoo think for a moment, and when a smirk spreads across his face, Jongin feels he might regret this.
The feeling is confirmed when Kyungsoo picks up an album that they haven't gone through yet, and searches until he finds the photo he wants. He shows it to Jongin, who stares at it with wide eyes.
"What is this?" Jongin yells, shocked.
It's a picture of them kissing. One that Jongin doesn't even remember taking it. He turns to Kyungsoo, ready to question him, but what he sees is Kyungsoo leaning towards him with his plump lips puckered into a pout.
Jongin quickly pushes him off. "Are you crazy?"
Kyungsoo laughs. "You're the one who wanted to do this trend."
"But why the hell would you choose this picture?"
"Why? Don't you want to? We don't have to do it if you're scared."
Jongin squints his eyes. He's not one to back down when he's being challenged, and Kyungsoo knows this.
The thought of kissing his best friend is weird, but... it's just a kiss, right? It doesn't mean anything.
"Fine," he says, grabbing his phone.
He sets up the camera as Kyungsoo moves closer, cupping his face like in the picture. Kyungsoo leans in again, looking into his eyes, and for some reason, it gets hard for Jongin to breathe. He doesn't know why, but suddenly he's nervous and thinks maybe it would be best if he just closed his eyes and waited for it to be over.
And so he does. His eyes flutter shut, and after what feels like an eternity, their lips finally meet.
It's just a soft peck, but still, Jongin feels his body shiver. His cheeks are warm under Kyungsoo's touch, and he's sure that Kyungsoo knows it. Because he presses them ever so slightly before pulling away.
When he opens his eyes, Kyungsoo is staring at him with an unreadable expression. Belatedly, Jongin realizes he failed to take the picture. But then he sees Kyungsoo's eyes flicker down to his mouth, and whatever he was about to say is forgotten.
The next thing he knows, Kyungsoo is kissing him again.
He gets lost in the moment and, without thinking, tilts his head, opening his mouth when Kyungsoo licks at his lips.
Something in him wonders if things aren't going too far when he falls back onto the floor with Kyungsoo on top of him. But then Kyungsoo's hand slides under his shirt, and... oh, screw it.
It feels good. No matter how dangerous it is.
His own hands find their way to Kyungsoo's waist, pulling him closer when suddenly he hears the sound of the front door. His eyes shoot open, realizing the position that they are in as the steps outside Kyungsoo's room get closer and closer. Jongin panics and shoves Kyungsoo away right before Mrs. Do opens the door.
"I was wondering whose extra shoes were those by the door," she says with a smile. "Hi, Jongin."
"H-Hello, Mrs. Do," he replies, feeling his heart beating erratically. His voice is strained, but luckily she doesn't notice.
Instead, her eyes catch sight of the mess on the floor, then Kyungsoo, who is still where he landed after being shoved by Jongin.
"What's wrong with him?"
"Who knows." Jongin shrugs, forcing out a chuckle. He makes the mistake of glancing at Kyungsoo and finds him staring back with that same unreadable expression in his eyes. He quickly looks away, scrambling up. "I-I have to go. I'll see you another time, Mrs. Do."
Jongin rushes to the door, and as he's putting on his shoes, he hears Mrs. Do ask if they had a fight. But he doesn't stay long enough to hear Kyungsoo's answer.
He runs to his apartment, and as soon as he closes the door, it hits him that he just made out with his best friend. The scary part is that he liked it.
Lost in thoughts, he's startled when he hears the sound of someone pressing the door password. Aside from his parents, the only other person who knows the password is...
"Kyungsoo."
"Jongin. Are you okay? You didn't have to leave like that."
"I know. I just..." He tries to think of an excuse but fails. "Anyway, that was hilarious, wasn't it? Why would you kiss me like that? Do you have a crush on me or something?" he jokes, expecting Kyungsoo to laugh it off and deny it. But he doesn't.
"This is not how I wanted to do this," Kyungsoo mumbles to himself.
"Do what?"
Kyungsoo sighs. "I've been in love with you for as long as I can remember," he confesses.
"Oh," Jongin says after processing Kyungsoo's words. "You never said anything."
"Because it took me a long time to understand and accept these feelings. But I wasn't ready to tell you yet."
Kyungsoo has never looked as worried as he does right now. And Jongin realizes he would do anything to not see him like this.
Decided, he says, "Okay. Let's go out on a date."
"What?" Kyungsoo questions incredulously.
"Our friendship won't be the same after today. But I don't want to lose you, Kyungsoo. You have to understand—I don't have any romantic feelings for you. I can't promise I ever will. But I'm willing to give you a chance to change that. Besides... you're a good kisser."
Blushing, he averts his eyes when Kyungsoo smiles.
"Does that mean I can kiss you again?" Kyungsoo questions, moving closer.
"Yeah."
