"Look alive, kids. The main event is here!", Kuro barged into Kenma's room confidently as if he was the most important person in the world.
Two grunts of acknowledgement sounded from the bed with neither you or Kenma lifting your view away from your hand held games.
Kuro's exaggerated grin faltered when he saw your positions, making his heart ache a little. Kenma, one of his best friends since childhood, was laid with his head by the headboard while the rest of his body spread the length of his bed. Nothing weird there. Kuro's issue was the betrayal he was seeing with you. You were curled sweetly into the side of Kenma, his best friend. Kenma was using you as an arm rest for his game since your head was being cushioned by the small boy's stomach.
It was a cute position, you two had always platonically been comfortable with each other, a little too comfortable for Kuro's liking.
"E-eh? H-how long have you two been playing games... l-like that?"
Kenma raised a brow still glued to his screen, "Y/N came over around 10 while we waited for you."
Kuro cleared his throat annoyed as he checked his phone, "You two have been playing l-like that for two hours???", he emphasized.
Kenma finally looked up, seeing his best friend's eye twitch and smirked, "Yeah, what of it?"
'That little shit.', Kuro gritted to himself as Kenma's teasing smirk burned through his soul like the little demon he was. He was calling him out. Kenma was sick of Kuroo for one reason and one reason only, because he liked you.
You and Kenma had nothing going on, you both had a very clear understanding that everything you did together was strictly platonic, almost to a familial level; so neither of you found it weird to be physical with each other. You were comfortable, that was the only definition you could give to it.
You knew this, Kenma knew this, except Kenma knew more than your oblivious-self did; and that was that Kuro Tetsurou, had a big, fat crush on you. You, their friend since middle school, and their volleyball team manager. Which was why Kenma occasionally took advantage of how comfortable you would get with him just to spite Kuro, who hasn't made a move to confess to you even though his crush has been for a couple years now.
Kenma knew small things like you two cuddling, holding hands, hugging, sharing jackets, all the stuff that could possibly be labeled as a relationship that meant nothing to either of you, would piss him off. Kuroo was a jealous person, it was obvious to everyone but you...
"Nothin' of it! Other than let's get goin'! I won't let you two lay in bed all day!", Kuro ushered.
You let out a large yawn, clicking off your screen and stretch before sprawling your arms over Kenma out of defiance, "You sure you don't want to just join us? It's pretty comfy here.", you confess, melting further into the warmth of Kenma and his plush bed.
You feel Kenma's chuckle shake his body and he snarkily repeats your question which you don't really get, "Yeah, Kuro. Why don't you join us?"
"N-no. I'd really rather not.", he grinds through his clenched teeth to keep his composure and he's sure he can feel a vein popping in his forehead, "We had plans today, and I'm not letting you two ditch me for games!", he cries, regaining his usual friendly attitude as he attempts to pull you both out of bed.
"I can't go anymore.", Kenma blandly admits, and Kuro's pulling is released from his arm when he surprisingly was able to yank you out of bed instead and catch you in his chest when the two of you trip a little from the release of Kenma, "You can't just make up a lame excuse while I'm here, bro!", he whines as he mindlessly holds you tight and pats your head like you're a little kid he's comforting.
You giggle in his embrace and look up at him with messy hair drooping in your view, "Kenma's mom is coming home soon to pick him up. Said something about him having to help her at her sisters place once she gets back from running an errand. She apologized about the last minute change in plans when I came over this morning.", you explain and Kuro catches Kenma's sly shrug.
Kuro saddens and releases you, "How lame, we were going to have so much fun today! I had so much planned.", he fake cried as he tried to dryly slick your hair back into place.
You laugh and halt his hands at the side of your head, knowing he was only making the mess worse, "Don't worry you big baby, I'm still free today!", you cheer up at him and you swear you can see a faint heat rising to his ears.
He looks to Kenma who is shooing you two away, "Yes, please go without me. I didn't want to go do your errands anyway in all honesty."
You laugh at the brutal comment and Kuro shoots him a glare, "It's not just errands, it was bonding time.", he huffs and slings an arm around your shoulder, shoving you into his side dramatically, "Come on, Y/N. We'll bond without him."
You smile gleefully and wave behind you, "We'll see you later?"
Kenma doesn't look up from his game like usual and only nods, "Sure, possibly."
----------
As the both of you walk down the street with Kuro's large arm never leaving your shoulder, you out hold your hand, "Where's your list? Let me see what your plan is for today."
Kuro dumbly looks at your hand as if he's analyzing a specimen before limply plopping his arm off your shoulder and placing his hand into your offer, intertwining your fingers, "List? You think I have an actual well thought out plan?"
"You did say you had a big day of bonding time and errands for us.", Your state as the only thing you could think of now was the prickling sensation happening because his hand was in yours.
The only person who faintly knew you felt this way towards Kuro was, of course, Kenma, your shared friend. You tried to compose yourself, hoping the heat swelling through your body was simply because of the heat outside and not from the rising feelings you continuously tried to shove down for the sake of your friendship, "I guess I'll make one then.", you suggest and pull out your phone and go to your notes.
"Hey, why are you so lovey with Kenma and not me?", he bluntly asked, easily noting your tension from him simply holding your hand.
It shocked you, especially with your current predicament of hoping he wasn’t that aware of your sweating hand, "First of all, me and Kenma lovey? Secondly-?", you question back, waving your interlocked hands in front of his face.
"I did this.", he confirms and shakes your hands back.
You stare at him confused, forgetting the list in your other hand you were trying to distract yourself with, "I just... I doubt Kenma was the reason you were laying on top of him.", He awkwardly squints away like he's avoiding the sun that's beating down on the two of you, "Just curious, s'all... Are you not comfortable around me?", he faintly fades off, seeming kind of disappointed .
You knew the answer and sure as hell weren't going to give him the truth. When you are 'comfortable' with Kenma, its platonically, like a spelled out before. Nothing you two have ever done has sparked any kind of nothin’ inside you, but when Kuro just as much looks at you, it's like you're putty in his hands, melting like a popsicle you wish you had on this summers day.
You start to fidget subconsciously, squeezing and un-squeezing his hand nervously. You look to the ground with a frown, trying to hide your embarrassed cheeks and find an answer, "I-i'm comfortable w-with you, just not in the same way I am with Kenma."
You look up at him shocked by your words and notice he seems hurt. You feel his hand trying to slip away and your eyes go wide as you try to recover from your mess up, instinctively tightening your grip so he can't pull away, "I said that wrong!", you try to fix, frantically waving your free hand and stopping your walk as you step in front of him, "I j-just mean Kenma and I are close. Not that you and I aren't, but him and I are slightly closer-!", shit well you're definitely making things worse now, which makes your frantic rambling intensify, "No! That's not what I mean. I just mean Kenma and I are practically like siblings, so it's easier for me to act around him in that way because I see him as a brother, or a cousin or something like that-!"
You instantly drop your head in your hands embarrassed for how terrible you are at explaining things, but you hear a boisterous laugh expel from Kuro that makes you peak up in curiosity, "You're laughing?"
"I'm sorry.", he wipes a tear from the corner of his eye. He lets out a large exhale to compose himself, "You suck at explaining things, but I got what you were trying to say."
What Kuro got loud and clear was you were in fact not friend-zoning him, at least not to the extent you did to Kenma, and that was all he needed to hear. He could live with you and Kenma being as close as you were if it meant him not being in the friend-zone, "So that list!"
"Oh yea!", you realize and bring your phone back into your view with Kuro's plan succeeding in distracting you from the subject.
"Let's see, hmmm.", he hummed, bringing his pointer finger that was still intertwined with your hand to his chin.
You laugh and poke his nose, "Groceries?"
"Yeah, I gotta pick up some things for my mom, but we can save that for last. Let's just go waste time somewhere.", he opted.
You look at him astonished, "Wait, what? I thought you said you had an entire day of errands to run."
"Hm? No, just groceries. I was just using it as an excuse to make you and Kenma hang out with me today."
"This early?!"
Kuro laughed and wrapped his arm around your shoulder, still with hands conjoined as he leaned into you, "Yup! See? Now we got all day to hang out!"
You slump, grumbling under your breath, "You have too much energy sometimes."
"Oh, come on, Y/N. I'll buy yah anything you want all day."
"You can't bribe me if I'm already going with you."
"It's not so you'll go with me, it's so you'll be in a good mood.", he smirks and you nudge his side, "No amount of bribery can fix that one if I'm going to be around you all day."
He gasped, bringing his other hand to his chest as he faked pain, "That hurts, you know? There's no way that could possibly be true!"
You laugh and raise an eyebrow at him, "And you know it's not true, when do i ever hate hanging out with you? But since you already offered, I’ll take you up on buying me anything i want while we're out!", you cheer and unwrap yourself from his hold and yank him into running towards the shops gleefully.
"Oi, wait up!", he shouted astonished, tripping behind you as you pulled him out of rhythm.
--------
"Check, Check, And Check!", You confirm, deleting the list you made for today.
The large boy slumped into a bench outside of the shop, tired from being on his feet all day. You leaned over into his view, your hair dangling with the position, "Tired? You're the one who made it this long of a day."
"You know? For the amount of shops you forced me to look into, you sure didn't buy a lot."
"I didn't actually want to spend your money.", you pout and puff out a cheek.
He poked your cheek, deflating your pout and grows a lopsided grin, "Oh so then you were really just going in all those shops to spend more time with me?"
Your face grows red and you stiffen with a frown, arms crossed in denial as you stood in front of him, "N-no. I was doing it to satisfy you. You're the one who wanted me to spend the day with you, after all."
"I was, wasn’t I? I appreciate it then, thank you.", He snakes into your arms and grabs your hand, looking up at you as he kisses the back of it.
If your face was red before, you were sure it was on fire now, "Hey, what do you say you come help me cook dinner tonight?", he nonchalantly asks still fiddling with your hand leisurely in his and looking down at his phone like he didn't just short circuit the gears in your brain.
"M-make dinner, w-with you?"
He nods before dismissing his phone into his pocket, "Yeah! I figure since you spent all day keeping me company, the least I can do is treat you to dinner.", he states, looking up at you casually yet yearningly. Like he doesn’t want you to leave him alone but he also doesn’t want to make you uncomfortable.
Dinner with Kuro. What was with him and being so bad at saying things normally. It practically sounded like he was asking you out, and the kiss on the hand???
“L-like a date?”, you squeak, not realizing the hand crushing grip you’re inflicting in Kuros hand.
Kuros face froze like he was forcing those words not to enter his brain but he lost. His jaw clenched and his face was on fire as he tried to cover the color with the back of his hand and look away, “I-It doesn’t have to be. Not that I’m against it- I mean not that I would want that- I mean not that I wouldn’t want that! I would like that- I just don’t want to make you uncomfortable-!”
His mouth stayed parted with another shock as you kissed his cheek endearingly before releasing a loud giggle, “You’re adorable when you stammer.”, you say with a teasing smirk.
He clears his throat and looks to the side, “I get it from you.”
You laugh, then tug at his arm for him to stand up, “Come on then! You owe me a dinner date.”
