Chapter 38: You Can't Escape Danganronpa

Chapter Text

Shuichi laughed as he took another swig of his alcohol cocktail. Honestly, he had no clue what it contained (and considering Amami had been mixing drinks unsupervised, it could be anything). A high-pitched squeal instantly sobered up the male as he flicked his head towards Akamatsu, jumping up and down grinning as Kokichi slapped her, shaking the woman. He does that when he tries to get people to be quiet, I wonder what they're talking about, though if it's important he'll let me know in his own time.

"Ding ding bitches!" Iruma shouted, heaving her drunk body on top of one of the makeshift tables, tapping a spoon against her glass. "Alright, I ain't into that sentimental bullshit, but I got a few things to say!" The woman shouted through hiccups and slurring her words. "You're all fucking great, I love you all so much! We better all fucking stay friends, ya hear me?!"

"Iruma, we appreciate it but please get down before you hurt yourself." The moment Tojo finished speaking, she rushed forward to catch a giggling Iruma as she fell from the table.

"Hey there sexy mama!~" Iruma slurred, winking at the maid holding her. Tojo sighed and placed her on her feet, grabbing a piece of bread and handing it to the female.

"Ouma has something to say too!" Akamatsu screamed, "ow!" She cried, rubbing the shoulder Kokichi had just punched. "Come on, go! You got this!" She whispered loud enough for the world to hear.

"Kichi, what's happening?" Shuichi asked, putting down his drink out of worry. Something's wrong, he seems scared about something.

"Fuck it, Saihara Shuichi, listen to me and listen to me carefully," Kokichi ordered, storming up towards his boyfriend. Akamatsu jumped around excitedly and shooed people away, creating a circle around the couple. "I know we're only nineteen, and this is kind of early in our relationship, but on a scale of one to ten, how bad of an idea would it be for us to get married?"

Shuichi's heart expanded tenfold, his skin turning red as the world around him ceased to exist. Tears poured from his eyes as he watched Kokichi's face go through fifty emotions per second. "Really, really fucking bad. Let's do it," Shuichi grinned, cupping his hands in front of his chest. Kokichi let out a sigh of relief and knelt on the floor, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a small box. Seeing the box open to reveal a beautiful silver ring cemented the situation in Shuichi's mind, the cold metal slipping over his finger.

Kokichi stood up and jumped on Shuichi, the two shared a deep, passionate kiss as the group around them cheered and clapped. Shuichi laughed and cried simultaneously as the engaged couple leaned their foreheads together. "I love you Kokichi, I love you more than anything else in the world," Shuichi mumbled through sobs of ecstasy.

"I love you too Shuichi, my emo beloved," Kokichi smiled, tears running down his own cheeks.

Sixteen students stood on their high school stage, graduation caps and diplomas in hand as they all posed for the camera. It was the last day before they became independent, starting their new lives to use their trauma from Danganronpa and twist it into a success. Carefully placing the framed graduation photo back on the grey marble countertop, Shuichi sighed, smiling as he reminisced his younger days. That photo was taken a day after Kokichi proposed, you can see the rings in the photo. There's only one moment that made me as happy as I felt that day aside from my wedding, and that's-

"Shumai!" Kokichi shouted, wrapping his arms around Shuichi's waist from behind, giggling against his back.

"Careful, you might hurt yourself!" Shuichi gasped, making sure the pot of pasta hadn't shifted from the burner.

"You're way too cautious!" Kokichi mumbled, detaching from his husband and sitting on the counter beside him. "Live a little!"

"Hey! I get drunk sometimes, that's living a little, right? Anyway, be careful what you say, you can't-"

"-give Ayumi any wrong ideas, I know! You tell me all the time Shu, but come on, she's twelve now. If anything I want our daughter to experience things. She's smart, she knows not to go out and fuck people in an alleyway, but we can't be too restrictive," Kokichi sighed. He's always been paranoid about raising Ayumi properly, ever since we adopted her he's felt anxious about raising her the wrong way or hurting her. I don't blame him though, especially after his upbringing.

"Dinner's almost ready, can you go and get Ayumi?" Shuichi asked, turning off the burners and taking off his apron. Before Kokichi could answer, the two men heard a blood-curdling scream of horror from upstairs. Sharing a terrified glance, every possible worst-case scenario ran through Shuichi's head as the two fathers raced upstairs. Knocking before he entered, Shuichi worried he'd misinterpreted the sign, not wanting to impose on his daughter's privacy. "D-Dad! Pa!"

Opening the door, the two noticed the young girl curled up in the foetal position, sobbing into her knees. Kokichi rushed forward as Shuichi surveyed the room out of instinct as the top detective in the country. No signs of a break-in, nothing seems off... Except for... "Sweetie it's okay, Dad and Pa are here, what happened?" Ayumi shook her head, mumbling incoherent nonsense drowned out by her sobs.

"Kokichi..." Shuichi's husband frowned at him, the two never using their first names around Ayumi. "Look at the TV." Turning to see what entranced Shuichi, Kokichi's face paled as his eyes lay on a screen filled with blood splattering from underneath a large hydraulic press.

"Saihara Ayumi, what are you doing watching Danganronpa?!" Kokichi asked, his voice stern. Ever since we adopted her, we've banned Danganronpa in the house. We told her it was because of the gore, but now, I guess she knows the truth.

"I didn't! Meiko told me to, she said I needed to see it," Ayumi stuttered through sniffles. Meiko? I'm going to have to call Kaede later about her daughter's behaviour, she knows I don't want Ayumi exposed to this. "W-Why are you dead, Pa?!"

"Kokichi, I think we need to explain everything, from the beginning," Shuichi sighed. Taking a seat next to Ayumi on the floor, Kokichi head her head to his chest, soothing the small girl as they started to explain.
