Work Text:
-Are you okay ? Did he hurt you ?
Bruce frowned his brows.
-The Batman, clarified Martinez, did he hurt you ?
His frown goes deeper. Why would officer Martinez thought Batman would hurt him ? It made no sense thought Bruce. Realizing that he won't get an answer or maybe just because he didn't catch on Bruce uneasiness Martinez decided to go on.
-When you got the call from the police. You should have stayed in a protected quarter. You shouldn't be so careless, especially with him around. It's dangerous, he might hurt you.
-The Batman doesn't hurt people. He protects them. It wasn't good, his tone was too harsh, too defensive. He shouldn't have shown how he felt about it but he couldn't help to take it personally.
-With all due respect sir, I think you're being naive. Does the Batman help people ? In a way yes, he does. Even if well... he's not doing it the most conventional way to say the least. But what he's doing Mr. Wayne, it's not protecting people. He's just doing justice by himself. He may have good intentions, and from what I've seen, he does, adds Martinez more softly. But someone with such a violent and unpredictable behavior can't be fully trusted. Giving him our full trust might do more harm than good.
-Is that so ? Ask Bruce with greet teeth. He breathes slowly through his nose, trying to not let his sudden anger show.
-Don't get me wrong, added Martinez with his hand in the air in sign of appeasement. Either, he noticed how Bruce felt about what he just said, which seems unlikely, or he really doesn't want to be mistaken. The guy may be weird, and I mean come on, have you seen him ? Something's clearly wrong with him up there, add Martinez while pointing his head to emphasize his words, but I know he means well. Okay now you must think I'm contradicting myself aren't you ?
The officer laughs loudly, too loudly for the silence around them. Yeah now you look mad thought Bruce still looking at Martinez's face. And for some reason he really wanted to punch his face to make his stupid smile go away.
-If you know he means well, why don't you trust him ?
It was a stupid question. Unnecessary too. He was supposed to keep it low, not start a debate about Batman in front of his manor in the middle of the night. But he saw Batman saving people, god he even helped him solve a case. So why wasn't he on his side ? Not that he really cared but it was kind of strange, at least from Bruce's point of view.
-Oh but I do trust him, just not enough to not suspect him not to hurt people. What do we do if he starts going crazy and hurts innocent people ? We can't risk that right ? Especially when the safety of one of the most important if not the most important person of Gotham is at stake.
Bruce sighs internally. It was in those moments that he wished he could tell people, tell Martinez that he was fully capable of defending himself. And most importantly that Batman wasn't a threat. Guess he'll have to wait before any of those happen.
-Well as you can see, The Batman's not there, he finally says while opening the front door, not surprised to see Alfred standing here. As always, he was by his side, ready to intervene at any given moment.
-Wha- wait ! Where are you going ?
-Sleeping says the vigilante, not bothering to elaborate. And with this final word he went his way upstairs. He did hear Martinez call his name but didn't bother to answer. He will let Alfred deal with him from now on.
-Master Wayne had a long day so if you have any more questions feel free to send us an email. We'll make sure to reply as soon as possible. Plus we grateful for taking care caring for Mr Wayne safety but don't worry we-
This all he heard echoing through the walls before entering his bedroom.
