An alarm went off at exactly 12 AM. The man who was busy tapping away on his phone suddenly stopped. That phone was actually the source of the alarm.
Itaru turned off the alarm immediately, them stole a glance at the other side of the room. Chikage was busy doing god knows what with his laptop on the couch.
(Well, Itaru's couch. But they were sharing it, he supposed)
Sighing, Itaru came down from where he was perched on his bed and walked out of the room. Chikage, on the other hand, only spared the man a glance before focusing back to his laptop.
Itaru didn't leave the room for too long, barely 2 minutes passed. When he came back, Chikage was looking at him with a questioning gaze.
“What is it?” Itaru knitted his eyebrows.
“Just wondering why you came back so fast. I assumed you were grabbing snacks and it usually took you longer.”
Itaru felt like pulling his hair out. He wasn't sure if the man was serious or he had actually found out what he was doing. One could never be sure when dealing Utsuki Chikage.
“I was just...” Itaru rolled his eyes, then slumped his shoulder. He walked over so that he was standing right in front of Chikage. He pulled out something from the inside pocket of his jacket and slammed his hand to the other's chest. “Here.”
Chikage raised his eyebrows at the gesture. The hit didn't hurt, though. He was just confused.
“What's this, a flower?” He took the single bloom from Itaru's hand and studied it carefully. “Did you take this from the courtyard?”
But instead of answering the question, Itaru responded, “Happy birthday, senpai.”
“Oh.” A noncommittal response was all Chikage could muster before he really processed those words. “Right. I forgot it was today.”
Itaru clicked his tongue. “Of course you did.”
Chikage chuckled at how sceptical Itaru sounded. “No, really, I actually forgot until you said it to me.”
Itaru was ready to turn around and leave before he would start to regret hus decision when Chikage suddenly took his hand.
“So, is this all you've prepared for me?” Chikage asked with a grin. Knowing his boyfriend, this couldn't be all of it.
“If you can figure out what flower it is, then maybe I'll tell you,” Itaru answered defiantly.
“Hm? It's gerbera, isn't it?” He twirled the flower in his hand. “I've listened to Tsumugi enough to remember all the flowers we have in the yard.”
“Damn... I thought I could get away with this. I knew taking Azuma's advice was not a good idea,” Itaru mumbled with his head down, avoiding Chikage eyes.
“What are you even talki—oh.” Chikage looked at the single pink flower before turning his gaze to Itaru and staring intensely. “Wait, is this really what I think it is?”
Chikage noticed the redness in Itaru's face and his lips bloomed into a smile. “Never thought you had it in you.” He pulled at the hand he was holding so the blond fell right on his lap. “So... you're seriously giving yourself to me for my birthday, huh?”
Itaru groaned, covering his face with his free hand. “It wasn't my idea...”
“But you went through with it.” Chikage kissed the top of Itaru's head, burying his face in the blond locks. With a muffled voice, he said, “You can't take it back, you hear?”
Itaru groaned even louder and slumped over Chikage's shoulder. “Mm, fine...”
