Chapter Text
Amelia2312:I also had another idea if you like for a one shot or AU to this where Cait or Vi dies in the others arms, and each of their reactions and decisions afterwards. (i know you like writing the angst). i thought of another one that could be really fun for you.
Majo_Robert: I'd really like if Vi ends saving Cait's life like the damn complex hero she has and ends dead while saving her, like Cait mourning Vi, probably is going to be kidnapped by Jinx if you are following the canon then when Jinx finally decides to shoot her or something Vi comes out of nowhere and saves Cait but she dies while doing it.
Vi watched in horror as her sister wavered. As a love she did not understand called louder than the love Powder shared with her once upon a time. The pain was just as much physical. But the fear was worse. Vi looked at Caitlyn again but the chair was empty. Her eyes didn't take long to find her.
“Drop the gun!” Caitlyn levelled the machine gun at Powder.
There had never been a worse feeling than this one. Not in Vi’s recollection anyway.
Powders hand tightened on the pistol. She wasn't backing down and neither was Caitlyn.
“No.” Vi’s voice was just above a whisper as she pleaded. “Please.” She begged.
Powder seemed to size Caitlyn up, she fiddled with the gun in her hands, smirking she made to level the gun and Caitlyn let fly a flurry of shots just before Powder's feet.
“NO! STOP!” Vi called out, fear in her voice but she couldn't care.
“Drop the gun.” Caitlyn tried once more. Her voice was so foreign to Vi, it commanded the room. Silco was even breathing heavily as he watched the scene unfold before him. His eyes darted until they met Vi’s, a similar look between the two seemingly helpless.
Powder still didn't drop the gun, she too looked stunned that Caitlyn would fire on her. Vi’s breathing was shaky as she watched.
Caitlyn levelled the gatling gun at Powder this time. Her warnings were over.
“Wait! Please! She's my sister.” Vi screamed in fear. How could fate be so cruel as to make her watch this. Her lover gun down her sister right before her eyes. Vi’s eyes welled with tears. Caitlyn spared her a brief look before aiming it once more.
“Last warning. Drop. The. Gun.” Caitlyn’s voice dripped with intent as she watched Powders every move.
Powder giggled briefly as she placed the gun on the table. Holding her hands above her head as she stepped forward.
It was just a moment but Caitlyn's eyes left Powder, as her blues graced Vi it was too late. The world moved so slowly for Vi, she watched as her sister lunged for Caitlyn, it was so perfectly time, so rigorously practised, before Vi could warn her, Powder had the gatling gun in her hands. And with a heavy swing the rear of the gun clocked Caitlyn in the head.
Powder held the gun now as she levelled it at Caitlyn, something in her eyes didn't look right, she was afraid.
“Finish it!” Silco yelled.
“Damnit Powder! Wake up!” Vi yelled louder. “Remember who you are. I know you remember.” Vi pleaded. “Remember them!” Vi cried. “Mylo. Claggor. Vander!” Powder gripped her ears as she reeled from the memories.
“Stop!” Silco bellowed, “Shut up! Don't listen to her.”
“Dad. Mom.” Vi’s voice broke at the mention of their parents. Powder flinched inwards falling into herself. “Me.”
Vi had been pressed so hard against her restraints she felt the ropes give way. She stood slowly standing before Caitlyn's body. She held her hands out, as if welcoming Jinx to return to her embrace. Silco screamed in frustration behind them.
Silco fought his restraints, teeth grinding together as he gave everything he had to fight free. Vi heard the restraints ripping but as she looked up she looked down another barrel. Silco levelled Jinx’s pistol at her.
“No!” Powder screamed.
As the end of the pistol flashed, so did the gatling guns. Over the gunshots Vi could hear Powder's war cry. The steady dut dut dut ebbed. Vi stared into the eyes ahead of her. Silco slumped into his chair, his coughing was the only sound before Powder's boots against the empty shell casings. Vi looked to her chest, hot crimson spilled over her red leather.
She didn't register the pain as she watched the wound ooze. She looked up to see Jinx knelt before Silcos slumping body. Her hysterical crying sounded so much like Powders had. Her little sister before her greatest enemy. Vi felt her knees growing weak. Powders crying grew silent as Vi fell to her knees. The first choke of blood in her throat had her coughing the metallic liquid over her tongue.
It tasted like the end. Vi’s vision faded in and out. She looked over to her lover's body. Her chest moved with a breath as her own blood leaked from her nose. Vi turned back, feeling the word spin around her, she caught Powder's eyes. No longer the bright blue, now they were tainted with a horrible pink. Vi knew Powder was gone, she had been for a long time. Vi groaned as her lungs filled with liquid.
She leaned forward falling to her battered knuckles. She looked over them, a story told in the calloused skin. A story of a life hard fought, protecting those she loved, helping those in need. Vi focused on that as those heavy boots neared her. Vi looked up into those Pink eyes, she reached up for her hand, as if Jinx would help her now. But it wasn't Vi’s intent. Blood coughed over her lips again.
“I thought everything could go back. To the way it used to be. You would love me like you used to. Even though I'm… different now. Tainted.” Powder looked down, meeting Vi’s fading gaze. “But you changed too. She changed you.” Powder holstered her pistol looking at Caitlyn's unconscious body. “So I guess, here's to the new us.” She made to move, but Vi held her firm one last time.
“I love you Powder.” Vi watched those eyes hesitate and then the shock as the room echoed with a shot.
Jinx gasped before falling to the floor. Vi ground her teeth as she wept. The tip of the pistol smoked with its final force. Her vision was fading fast now. The black rimmed the room, the candles doing little to keep her from slipping under. She reached for Powder's hand, falling completely to her side as she did.
“I'm sorry. I am so sorry.” Vi choked out brokenly. Tears streamed down her face as she held her little sister's hand. Those tired, scared knuckles encompassed the little hand.
Vi wished there was a different way. She wished life hadn't been so cruel to a sweet little girl. She wished she hadn't dragged Caitlyn into the pain she caused. She could just hear Caitlyn begin to stir behind her. How much pain could Vi cause her, it seemed endless as the darkness creeped ever closer.
“V-Vi?” Caitlyn groaned. Vi shed tears for her too.
For everyone she lost and for everyone she was leaving behind. Vi could hear their voices, calling her into the peaceful black. Mylo’s incessant chatter, Claggors low chuckle, Graysons gravelly voice calmly saying everything would be alright. Vi could almost see them, standing together as if her family called her to join them. She looked for Vander but did not see him. His lack of presence was upsetting but Vi’s mind quickly wandered to her mothers soft smile and her fathers gentle presence. She wanted to run into their arms. As they got closer, Powder joined them. A small girl with a bright smile. That blue hair, so vibrant and cheerful. Vi could feel herself smiling, the tears of joy as she grew nearer to her family.
Her mothers eyes were so similar to that beautiful blue Vi loved so much. She felt her body being shaken. Could hear her name called in that voice she could listen to for eternity. As much as she wished to return to that life so full of love. She knew her fight was over. The blackness before her filled with her family, they called louder with the simplest of gestures. Warm smiles and arms wide open waiting for her embrace.
Vi smiled at her lover.
“I’ll always love you Cupcake.” She heard her words echo in her mind. She hoped they made it to her as the blackness settled in. There was a comfort to it, a warmth Vi had only known in fleeting moments.
Caitlyn's POV
Caitlyn's eyes blinked open at the sound of a gunshot. It was still dark and hazy. She struggled to focus, the splitting pain in her head worked against her with great persistence. She could just make out the laboured breathing and choking over the constant thumping between her ears.
“V-Vi?” She groaned. Her own voice aggravated that pain even further.
The near silence that followed was what scared Caitlyn upright. She moved quickly and the world spun, but as soon as her eyes cleared she saw her worst fears.
There lied Vi, blood pooling around her as it had once before. Caitlyn's panic was audible as she yelled for help that would not come. She crawled unbalanced over to her lover. The light so dim in those grey eyes as she looked beyond Caitlyn's face.
“Vi-Vi. No. No. No. Please, please, please. Don't go. Stay with me.” Caitlyn wept. “Please stay with me.” She held Vi’s face in her hands. Her breaths grew ever weaker as the blood trickled from her lips.
“Vi-” Caitlyn cried a long and emotional wail. Her own tears salted those pailing cheeks.
“I’ll always love you Cupcake.” It wasn't more than a whisper over a lagged tongue. And the light left those beautiful eyes as they closed to the world around them.
Caitlyn sobbed as she shook her love. Urging her to get up. Willing her to continue. But the fight had left the still body. Her face looked at peace, just as she did in those quiet mornings spent with Caitlyn.
She held her love close, no longer shaking her to wake. Now she rocked her gently as if this were just a slumber. She fixed her hair and spoke all the words she wished they shared. She understood now why Vi had left her in the river, this pain was inconsolable. Knowing she would never share another kiss with the woman who had her heart in its entirety. Caitlyn leaned down, pressing her lips to the cold ones, she felt the scar against her lips for the last time. A new wave of grief took her under as she held Vi against her.
