The Journal Entries of Mary Anning

Chapter 3: October 9, 1811

Chapter Text

October 9, 1811

Dear Diary,

I have been thinking about that fossil I found a lot lately, well more than normal. It looked so scary, so big when all it was, was bones, and I’ve been thinking, if it looked so scary while it was dead, how would it have looked when it was alive? What color was its skin? Was it Black? Orange? White? How many teeth did they have? How big were its fins? Were the fins a different color then the body? Was the mouth a frown or a smile? Did it swim fast or slow? Was it the only creature out there? Or were their hundreds, maybe even thousands, of others? And if there were other creatures, did they travel in packs, like people, or alone? Were their only creatures in the sea? Or were they on land, like me? Maybe even in the sky! There is such a mystery around these creatures, thousands of questions to ask! I may never find the answers I seek, but if there's one thing I know, it’s that I will never give up looking - even if it takes me many, many years.

Notes:

Mary Anning is famous for finding the fist complete skeleton of a Plesiosaurus. (what the second chapter is going to be about) and then the last chapter is just her thoughts about what she thanks the fossils might have looked like while they were alive. Enjoy!
